Travel Buddies for KL to Thailand

Posted by Fangtasia on 9/1/2013 at 03:53

Hi! I hope this is the right place to look for fellow travellers? I wanna go from KL to Penang and a couple other Malaysian places along the way to Thailand and then Cambodia, Laos and maybe a couple more countries. I'm not a party girl - at all. So if that's you're main interest we won't match, but if you like nerdy things, temples, trekking, food exploring etc.? Why not travel together? I'm German and I've lived in Korea for a while and have seen a couple places but not nearly as many as I ...

Lankayan Island and Sandakan. Questions!

Posted by meeshakar on 9/1/2014 at 20:38

Hi travelers, We are going to be flying into Sandakan March 1st. We were thinking of going to Uncle Tam's for part of our trip and then checking out Lankayan Island for some snorkeling (We already have a diving trip booked in Mabul, so just snorkeling here). I see there is only one place to stay but we are just thinking an early morning trip out there would be nice. Are there boats that head out there that we could pay to take us there, or is there a trip package? I haven't really seen much ...

SIngapore and Borneo itinerary advice- would love your thoughts!

Posted by meeshakar on 2/1/2014 at 13:57

Hi Travelers, I fly into Singapore on Feb 21st until March 5th. I have never been out here, just to Thailand and Cambodia a few years ago so this entire itinerary is just from some research online. I would love if I could get some feedback about this and see if it looks good, is do-able, some good places to stay or eat at these spots, or just overall advice! Fly into Singapore and spend a few days around here. (3 days) Fly to Kota Kinabalu and check out Mt. Kota (2 days) Fly to Sandakan fo ...

Best of Malaysia/Singapore in Feb/March 10 days

Posted by meeshakar on 30/12/2013 at 21:46

Hello travelers! I will be traveling from my home in San Francisco to Kuala Lumpur and all around Malaysia for my 40th birthday, meeting up with a friend of mine who is traveling the world for a year. We have traveled through Thailand and Cambodia a few years ago and now meeting up and doing Malaysia and Singapore. Of course I am on a tighter travel itinerary with 10-11 days. I would love to relax at some great beaches, take a couple hikes, eat some great food, see some amazing places, etc... ...

Malaysia/Borneo in January

Posted by jg44 on 22/11/2013 at 16:15

Hi - I'm heading over in Malaysia in January. Originally, I was hoping to go to the Perhentian Islands, but it looks like things are pretty shut down due to monsoon season. However, I have read mixed reports about Borneo - some say that it's rainy, but also that it's pretty temperate all year round anyway. Is the rainy season really bad around that time? I would like to hike Mt Kinabulu in particular. Would love any other travel recommendations for Malaysia! A bit of background - female, late ...

Exchanging Pounds and Buying Sandals

Posted by christay2009 on 30/6/2011 at 18:57

I will be in Malaysia soon enough and was wondering if you can exchange British pounds there easily enough? I would prefer to take pounds rather than change into Dollars first, then Ringgit. I seem to recall seeing exchange rates for pounds at all the places in KL but not sure on the rates. Also, I want to buy some TEVA sandals but I'm having trouble getting the ones I want in my size in the UK. I have small feet (UK7) and it seems all the shops sell out of these really quickly or just don't b ...

Deckhand

Posted by Deef on 6/12/2013 at 00:39

Hi all, I was wondering if anyone would be able to offer me some advice on working as a deckhand. I want to travel to Europe without flying but I haven't got enough money to travel as a passenger on a freighter or cruise. I haven't got any working boat experience but I would work for free and even pay towards food costs. I am not afraid of work and am an engineer by trade with experience in car and bike mechanics. I can cook a decent meal for a large number of people, I can clean or I could se ...

KLIA-LCCT to Melaka by bus

Hey. I plan to visit Melaka next June, and I wonder if there are buses at the Low Cost Carrier Terminal, which travel to Melaka. Or is taxi the more-sensible option? I get conflicting responses from colleagues and mates, so here I am, hoping you can help me on this. Thanks! ...

10 night trip to Malaysia in late October/early November

Posted by kpibear28 on 28/8/2013 at 19:40

Hello, We are visiting Malaysia for 11 nights in the end of October/early November. We are flying into and out of Singapore. We are looking for a mixture of culture and wildlife with perhaps limited time on the beach if any. -Is it worth trying to go to Taman Negara during this time? I know the Monsoon season would just be starting but we are hoping to beat it. Alternatively is it worth the effort to take a 2 hour flight to Sandakan for a river safari? We would also like to see Penang ...

Malaysian Borneo Itinerary help

Posted by finnreynolds on 4/11/2013 at 00:05

Hi, My fiance and I are currently three months into our SE Asia trip and recently arrived in Malaysia. We are both 30, pretty ok with living to budget (working on about RM170 per day) and enjoy anything involving animals, views and food. Our next stop is to be Borneo in two or three weeks time (mid to end November). We're trying to fit in various Borneo highlights after our tour of the peninsula bit of Malaysia but it's pretty huge and we're not sure what can and can't be missed. Current shortli ...

Langkawi accomodation options

Posted by freiburger on 26/8/2013 at 06:46

I am planning to go to Langkawi in November and am just about to book my flights and accomodation. I am looking for some kind of beach bungalow type of accomodation ranging up to 250 Ringit. Not too far out from civilasation and not really in the big mess of Pantai Cenang. I will be heading from Krabi down to Langkawi via Satun to spend around 6 or 7 nights on Langkawi before I head down to Kuala Lumpur. I have been on Penang, Perhentians and Kapas so I know a little about the price range ...

Kenong Rimba Park

Posted by natje812 on 21/10/2013 at 18:33

Hi I am leaving for KL in 10 days and had a few questions as a first timer in SE Asia.. I have 3 weeks (full travel time) in total but also would like to see Thailand (parts) and Siem Reap. I know this is a lot in 3 weeks (I'm used to traveling for a year at the time so I guess I still have to get used to only having 3 weeks ) I do plan not to plan too much, so I am kind of flexible, but still believe if you only have 3 weeks, a bit of planning is a necessary evil... ...

Getting from Sandakan to Mt. Kinabalu

Posted by Seonach on 20/10/2013 at 09:26

Hi all, Does anyone know about getting by bus from Sandakan to Mt. Kinabalu? The guide book says the express buses from Sandakan to KK will drop you at the turnoff to the national park; is it much of an ordeal to get from there to where the accommodation is? We plan to stay somewhere outside the park for the night, before going on the climb. Thanks. ...
