Posted by esonia1982 on 5/3/2013 at 20:40

Hello, I am currently in KK with plans to travel onward to Semporna and Danum Valley in the next week or two; with the situation with the armed standoff/military action in these areas, I have received mixed advice on whether it is safe to proceed. Is anyone on the ground in Semporna or Lahad Datu that can provide an update on the security situation there? ...

Malaysia in October/November

Posted by skezmyster on 16/5/2013 at 14:34

Hello, I am planning maybe 5-6 weeks in Malaysia around October/November time. I am concerned about the weather at this time of year though. From what I have read, it sounds like the Perenthian Islands will likely be shutdown. But how about the West Coast? Has anyone been there at this time of year and would you still recommend it? We would like a mix of beaches and more adventurous stuff. Obviously weather is not such a big deal for some activities, but I am wondering what it will be like on ...

Hi all, me and my girlfriend will be traveling for borneo for roughly two weeks in feb 2011, it will be the end of our se asia trip in which we go through the Philippines, Cambodia, Thailand, laos, borneo, and hong kong. We will be traveling with a relatively low budget/backpacking, and have the rest of our trip planned out but are having some troubles with borneo as it seems that everything here is controlled by tourist companies. In general, we are trying to experience unadulterated nature asw ...

Panicking... 3 months in Malaysia to write - help!

Posted by CatV7 on 17/3/2013 at 08:12

I am currently working in Nepal, but leave at the end of May with 5 months off to finish writing a book (cliche, I know, sorry!). Anyway, I have zero plans and am starting to panic - I have never travelled before (I turned 32 this week!) and could really do with some advice. To kick off, I thought Malaysia seemed sensible, because I can get a 90 day visa on arrival and then stay put and get some stuff done... but I need to find somewhere to stay, and I am really struggling. I have a budget of a ...

Internet in Batu Ferringhi, Penang

Posted by hsoa on 3/4/2013 at 08:35

The place where I'll be staying in Batu Ferringhi, Penang , offers no access to the internet. For work I need to use Skype a few times a week for 2 hours each time. I am looking for an internet cafe or a location that offers WiFi and is reasonably quiet in the afternoon and early evening. I can use either a public PC or my own laptop. The connection speed needs to be enough to support Skype audio. (I don't necessarily need to use the video function.) It is no problem if the cost is relat ...

I am thinking about spending a month in Georgetown soon and would like to to ask if anyone has suggestions of low priced guesthouses with private fan rooms (shared or pref private bathroom) ...perhaps something that comes out to be around 20 ringet a night long term. I used to stay in the old SD Guesthouse down Love Lane which I really liked, and more recently a decent place (71 Travelers?) on that first street off Love running pp to Chulia. But SD is long gone and the latter was something lik ...

Am I krazy to want to go to KL & Meleka around Chinese New Year?

Posted by altmtl on 18/10/2012 at 09:11

I'm thinking of going to KL and Meleka around Chinese New Year - From what I'm hearing and reading, things are pretty much booked during this time and a lot of people also leave town. Transport is a mess and many things are closes or overcrowded.I wonder what my chances of finding a couch or an affordable guesthouse are around this time? I usually never book a room in advance, but maybe this time it would be a good idea. I was thinking of arriving the around the 3rd or 4th in Kl by night train ...
