Redang or the Perhentians?

Posted by MiaBritton on 16/1/2012 at 19:08

I'm heading to Singapore & Malaysia on honeymoon in June this year and we'd like to spend our last 5 days (of 25) relaxing on the beach! Friends have been to Redang and recommended it but we'd like to get a few opinions on which island comes up trumps! So far i've found nicer accommodation on Redang but this may just be what's on the net. We'd be very grateful to hear from others who've been to either place, or if you can recommend a different island that'd suit a moderately budgeted honeym ...

Malaysia in Feb! Visa Question.

Posted by PhilandLuisa on 4/1/2012 at 06:24

Hi All We have resigned from our jobs and booked our tickets for our 3 month trip through SEA! We will be kicking off our trip in Malaysia and we are really looking forward to it. We will be flying into KL and as I understand it we do not require a visa for a stay up to 30 days (we are South African passport holders). I have read on some websites that for this to apply we will require proof of onward depature (our air tickets are one way). Is this true and has anybody had a problem with this? W ...

Diving Malaysia Jan/Feb

I need some help here. I'm hoping to travel in Malaysia from end of Jan to early Feb and I'm not sure where to go. It seems the weather can be quite different depending on what coast or Borneo you are on. The east coast sounds fantastic but I guess it's in the rainy season? I'd like some good beaches and diving, also like trekking, culture. Any suggestions and help figuring out the weather would be much appreciated. Thank you. ...

13 nights - £2000.... Malaysia - Thailand?

Posted by Shaf on 13/1/2011 at 17:20

Dear All, For our first anniversary we are hoping to spend 2 weeks (13nights), at the end of June, in Southeast Asia, we have already booked ourtickets and will be using KL as our base. We are on a pretty tight budget, but noticed that flights around the region were very cheap from KL. We are in no way restricted to Malaysia, so all your suggestions are welcome (as long as the flight there doesn't cost the earth!). Our main criteria is to be on a perfect romantic white sandy beach with crys ...

Some info on Redang island

Posted by tezza on 15/8/2011 at 17:52

Redang has some of the whitest beaches and best snorkelling on east coast peninsula Malaysia. Diving is pretty good too. But the most popular beach is crowded. BEST BEACH. Hard to say. The main twin beach area of of Pasir Panjang at the north end of the east coast would have been one of the best in Malaysia before development. Now it is packed with midrange resorts and has a holiday camp atmosphere with hundreds of middle class Singaporean /KL families and couples out to have a good time. It's ...

Hi Thanks for reading! My partner wants to see some nature too...which shouldn't be hard! So, if we're coming from Penang – i guess it would be natural to suggest cameron highlands.... but I'm not sold – would it be wet wet wet around the st ...

Newish Borneo Budget Options

Posted by LJ on 15/12/2011 at 07:09

Thought I'd share some places there are bit new and improved for the budget traveler that I found on my recent visit to Sabah. Apart from Uncle Tans and Mescot these were all not here a few years ago and makes the chances to get slightly off the beaten track independently a little more easier in Sabah. If you are happy to hire a motorbike Go Go Sabah seems to be popular and the bikes reasonable value to hire and they are in KK. At the very tip of Bor ...

Langkawi, Malaysia - accomodation question

Posted by caseyprich on 11/10/2011 at 17:26

Hey all, Haven't been on the board in a long time as recently Travelfish has been blocked in China. However, at a friend's place with a VPN so need to ask some advice as I'm preparing for my Spring Festival trip to Langkawi. A couple questions: 1) What is the advice for things to do in Langkawi - I'm guessing beach, would like to hear any good ideas. 2) We've been recommended to stay at Panang Cenang. However, it sounds like that is the central beach, not very quiet. If you know of any ch ...
