Malaysia in Dec - can you help ????

Posted by olashi on 23/9/2011 at 11:59

Hi there - would bue really grateful for some help! Am wondering whether to take advantage of some reasonable flights to Malaysia in December and don't have much time to do the research. Could anyone please comment on how it might be to travel as family of 5 (3 adolescent boys) in Malaysia in December. We tend to like less crowded places, and are happy to travel on local buses and trains. Would also like to have some beach time (we are from NZ so have fairly high expectations of beaches!). We ...

Posted by siquick on 24/1/2011 at 20:44

Hi guys, My girlfriend and I are landing in KL in mid May and have this basic route mapped out. I understand that the monsoon season happens on the west coast at this time so we are looking to spend more time on the east coast - just wondering if people could suggest some other places to go and/or comments on the below. We dont have a time scale so happy to go off to places worth seeing. KL -> Cameron Highlands->Perhentians Perhentians look amazing but not quite sure how much there real ...

2 weeks in Malaysia

Posted by fretchard on 13/9/2011 at 07:39

Hello. My boyfriend and i are planning to stay in Malaysia for 2 weeks, after a year in Australia. We plan to try and see quite alot of the area, starting off in KL. We are having 2 weeks in Bali prior to this, so beaches wont neccessarily be a priority. Therefore would like to try and see as much as we can of Malaysia, travelling around and staying in different spots, such as Lang Kawi, Penang etc. What do you all suggest? Thanks ...

KL to Butterworth by rail

Posted by nightowlers on 20/9/2011 at 12:50

Arriving by air in KL, and plan to travel to Thailand and Laos. Rather than fly to Bangkok, we are considering the rail option, possibly spending a few days in Penang before continuing north. Would love to hear from anyone who has travelled by rail to Butterworth, as to their experience. As we know KL well, and will stay there en route back to Australia, we are thinking of taking the train the same day we arrive. We arrive in KL around 12:30pm. Believe the sleeper to Butterworth leaves KL at 2 ...

How to get to diving in Brunei and Borneo...

Posted by csawala on 2/10/2011 at 12:35

Doing research now but any help would be appreciated. I am currently in Koh Tao, Thailand, diving, but am probably heading off in the next day or so back to mainland, and then heading towards Singapore to meet a friend. From there, I was hoping to make my way to Borneo area (Sipadan, Layang Layang, Lankayan Island) to get some diving in but I am not sure how to get around once I land in Brunei (I found cheap flights to there via AirAsia)... All I know so far is that I would have to fly from Kua ...

If you are going to pay a visit to Malaysia and will come to Sarawak for the coming October. Then, should not miss out the Baram Regatta in Marudi. This traditional event will be held this year on 1st and 2nd Oct. How to get to Marudi? 1/ Express boat at Kuala Baram Jetty, Miri 2/ 4 Wheels drive (experience simple rally driveway) 3/ Plane from Miri airport Marudi is a historical and peaceful town. Malaysian Borneo

Posted by iciclesecret on 2/9/2011 at 23:10

Hello! I'm travelling back to Asia and this time very tempted to spend some time in Borneo. We land into KL on the 26th December and could connect onto the evening flight to KK. It seems to me that the must sees are: Kinabatangan River, Kota Kinabulu, Sepilok Sanctuary (please tell me if I'm wrong, my knowledge of Borneo is so limited!). There seems to be lots of different options for the best islands in the area. I saw a fabulous trip with Sta travel, covering all of the above, but they are c ...

Tiny red bugs with painful bite

Posted by katielane18 on 24/8/2011 at 08:44

Hello, everyone! I have been googling all night and morning and can't find anything so I'm hoping someone here can help me! I was laying in bed last night (I'm in peninsular Malaysia) and I felt something on my back. I was laying on top of the blankets so I thought the blanket was just scratching my arms so I just kept moving it. After this went on for half an hour, I got off the bed to move the blanket and I noticed a bunch of tiny (like a pinprick tiny) bright red bugs. I went to get the h ...

Perhentian Kecil revisited

Posted by tezza on 14/8/2011 at 11:33

I got back to Kecil after a 12 year gap early in July. Way more development. Long Beach is no longer drop dead gorgeous - just an okay beach. BEST BEACHES - Long Beach has been spoiled by concrete buildings in back, rows of beach umrellas/mats and haphazzard parking of too many boats. The sand is not the eye-hurting white of the good old days. I'm putting it at #3 on Kecil. However if you want lots of accommodation nearby, plenty of restaurants and a few lively bars, this is the place. Note the ...

Taxi from Lahad datu to Semporna

Posted by Joey82 on 22/8/2011 at 20:21

Hi everyone, I'm wondering if anyone knows how much a taxi will cost from Lahad Datu to Semporna? I know the best way is a mini van but I'll be coming from the Danum Valley and think I get dropped off in Lahad datu about 3:30pm so I'm guessing it will be too late (especially if they only leave when full) I really need to get to Semporna that same day though so I make the boat to Mabul the next morn! Are taxies easy to get from Lahad Datu? Thanks! ...

Perhentian Besar revisited

Posted by tezza on 13/8/2011 at 16:55

I got back to Besar for the first time since '99. More resorts, estaurants etc but still a nice location. BEST BEACH - the one at Perhentian Island Resort. This is open to the public and can be walked to from all resorts except Bubble's Dive Resort. Bubbles Dive Resort beach is maybe next - Bubbles is exclusive to this beach, there is okay snorkelling off the sand. Only problem is access - boat only. Abdul's and neighbours' beach is arguably as good - even better snorkelling north of the mid-be ...
