Malaysian health care

Posted by heddenswest on 26/1/2011 at 12:38

I'm going to be traveling for almost 4 months this coming fall. I'll be starting in Bali and passing briefly through Malaysia on my way to Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos and Burma... I am in the process of determining which vaccinations I need to get but they are expensive and not covered by insurance where I am currently living. Malaysia ostensibly has good health care. Can anyone comment? Any thoughts on getting vaccinated there (Hep A, typhoid, maybe Japanese encephalitis?...)? I'm also c ...

historical city.. Malacca

The historic centre of Malacca was inscribed on the World Heritage List on 7 July 2008 together with George Town, the capital of Penang. The Malays who are the original settlers of Malacca since 1400, form the largest community. The Malaccan Malays are rich in culture from their daily life to the building arts. The famous Malacca Steps or Tangga Melaka are common in front of many Malay houses in Malacca. Two of the most important museums in Malacca are the Baba Nyonya Heritage Museum and the ...

Accomodation in Salang Beach - Tioman

Posted by Janascha on 24/1/2011 at 22:13

Hello, Any experiences? I need an accomodation in Tioman, preferably in Salang Beach, this friday throughout the weekend or longer- WiFi and an attached toilet would be lovely, a fan is just fine. Since I am travelling alone the price range should not exceed 50 or 60 RM. Can anyone recommend a nice and sweet place? BTW: any tips for a good diving guide there? Thanks for support! Jana ...

We are looking for a quiet place to relax on the beach, we dont plan on scuba diving or doing any snorkelling and arent really into going out. we are just wanting a romantic holiday where we can get away and relax and spend time together. Does anyone have any suggestions. I have heard that tioman, langkawi and the perenthians are good, but i keep hearing they are very developed and g ...

Traveling through Malaysia by Train (to KL)

Posted by ginger1 on 27/12/2010 at 10:40

Hi! My boyfriend and I are hoping to train our way back down to KL after 2 weeks in Southern Thailand / islands. I know the most direct route (?) is to train from Hat Yai along the west coast down to KL. I saw in another posting on here that someone suggested a different train route through central Malaysia called the "jungle railway." Can anyone recommend one way or the other? We are definitely hoping to stop at at least one or two places on the way down - we will give ourselves 3 ...

Thaipusam festival question

Posted by hypersigil on 16/11/2010 at 09:19

I am going to be arriving in KL on Jan 19, 2011 for the Thaipusam festival at the Batcave near KL, which takes place this year from Jan 20 - 22. I was wondering if anyone here had experienced this festival before and could let me know if it is worthwhile staying for the whole thing, all three days, or if it is rather repetitive after a while. I don't have very long at all in Malaysia. If you think that the whole festival is not worth staying for, which day should I go -- the first, or last? Any ...

Round Trip Tickets for Visa

Posted by foieslinger on 15/1/2011 at 05:13

Will be traveling for 3 months in Malaysia, Singapore, and Indonesia and have already purchased a round trip ticket flying into Kuala Lumpur and flying out of Jakarta. Not sure yet how I will be traveling between the countries but will most likely be flying on Air Asia. It seems that all of these countries require proof of in/OUT tickets. Will I be granted a tourist visa if I don't have proof that I am leaving the country? I have not yet been to any of these countries and don't know how lo ...

I'm a traveller/photographer & live on Ibiza, (for 10 years ) considering moving to another island, in Asia. Looks like Langkawai might be a good option, but I have only read about people holidaying there for short stays. Has anyone stayed there for months, or a year ? Would like to know if there are any europeans living there, and approximate cost of renting a house (preferably) or apartment annually. Also the climate, what is it like over 12 months ............. is there a heavy rainy sea ...

Langkawi to Thailand

Posted by CrankyCarrot on 15/12/2010 at 09:27

I'm heading back to Thailand from Penang and wondering if it's worth going via Langkawi. If I do that, do people typically re-enter Thailand in Satun, or do they go back through the mainland of Penang and go the Hat Yai route? Are there any extra costs associated with going back to TL through Satun? Why is it 60rm to Langkawi and only 30rm to Hat Yai, which is way further? ...

Malaysia In July

Posted by sean82 on 4/1/2011 at 09:50

We Fly in to KL on the 1st July for our Honeymoon and will be spending approx. 3 weeks in Malaysia. We were thinking about spending the whole time in the Perhentians Besar but was wondering is that too long. We both love Scuba diving and just relaxing on tropical islands but as I can gather from other posts and guide books there isn’t a lot to do other than dive, snorkel and relaxing on the beach. Was thinking maybe spend 2 weeks there and a week somewhere else? If you think 2 weeks is too ...

KL airport connecting flights

Hi. My Airasia flight from UK arrives in KL at 1325. I want to catch an outbound airasia flight at 1455 to Phnom Penh . Assuming no it do-able?? I assume can't check through my luggage, so I would need to pick it up after arrival from UK, and then checkin for the outbund flight to Phnom Penh. The flght from KL to Phnom Penh is very cheap at the moment, so it is worth giving it ago, if I have a decent chance. The problem is there don;t seem to be later departures for either Malays ...

Malaysia in August

Posted by ChrisM48 on 30/10/2010 at 11:06

If I am reading the weather charts correctly it seems that August is not overly affected by the monsoon seasons in Malaysia. Any one able to confirm this is correct? That being the case would appreciate some itinerary suggestions for a 3 week stay in Malaysia. We have a preference for coastal stays but glad to consider any other possibilities. Thank you in advance ...
