Those Darn Blast Rozzers

Posted by mikenam on 19/8/2010 at 18:01

This January, myself and a friend are travelling vietnam via motorbike and to say im excited would be a monumental understatment....Anyway from reading copious accounts of others who have done this before, I understand that occasionally the police will stop you and fine "Yo Ass!" Being this a situation where they have a freedom to ask for whatever sum they want, I was wondering whether bartering fine's is a wise thing to do. If anyone has previously been stopped and fined for not havin ...

First time Motorbike in Vietnam

Posted by mckayb on 28/7/2010 at 13:00

Hi all, I am in Sapa right now and will be going back to Hanoi on the 31st and am wanting to bike Hanoi down through the south. I have no experience riding motorbikes, but do have experience on the scooter. Is it possible to get an automatic motorbike? If not, is it hard to learn to ride a semi-automatic bike? I definitely do not want to get a manual bike. Also, what would the best type of bike be? I know Minsk's are popular, but I am not sure if it would be suitable for me. What are other ...

Bike trips through Vietnam! GREAT!

Posted by bikerbabe2004 on 10/7/2010 at 19:00

I have just done a trip from Hanoi to Hoi Chi Minh city by bike. I started in Hanoi and bought my bike from 2 reputable guys by the name of Anthony and Felix. They took me to there warehouse full of bikes. Minsks, dirt bikes, scooters, low riders etc. After messing around and re-adjusting to riding bikes, I decided to go with the 2 stroke Russian 125 cc Minsk. Something about the Minsk caught my eye and what a success it was. I left Hanoi and travelled down to Mai Chau . ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL ...

How to sell a motorbike in Vietnam

Posted by stolberg on 16/6/2010 at 15:41

Hi! How big are the chances of getting a motorbike sold in Hanoi or in one of the cities located on the coast? I'm thinking of buying a motorbike in Saigon, but I only have three weeks and maybe I should try and sell it half way to Hanoi to be sure to get there in time. Any experiences? Thanks! ...

One-way motorbike rentals- is it possible?

Posted by dano_b on 7/6/2010 at 12:40

Hi everyone! I am currently researching for a trip to Vietnam in the fall and was intrigued by a route suggested in one of the guide to bike on your own between Da Lat and Hoi An. Is it possible to rent a motorbike in one place (Da Lat) and return it in another (Hoi An) without having to do a loop (time doesn't permit this for us)? Is there an extra charge for this? How much? Thanks for any help! ...

propose a route from hanoi to hcmc

Posted by travelhungryboy on 8/5/2010 at 17:05

Hi everyone, I am wondering if any of you would be able to propose a route from Hanoi to HCMC for me. I am planning to buy a motorbike and ride down South although I am unsure of where the best places to stop along the way are, how far it is realistic for me to travel each day and how easy it will be to find accommodation at each destination. I would like to travel along the coast if possible and am not fussed on great nightlife, more taking in the scenery, I want to relax! I have 26 days alth ...

Crossing into Laos by motorbike in LaoBao not possbile at the moment

Posted by juutsel on 30/4/2010 at 11:15

Just and update for what we've experienced. We tried to cross the border into Laos at Lao Bao on the 27th and were not able to get in. We called on of our friends who lives here who asked a friend in the goverment who could not find a good reason why we should not be able to cross the border. The guy at the border said that for the last month they have sent people back. We tried to find out if money would help the 'problem' which didn't get us any further. As far as i've heard normally you wou ...

Motorbike on train in Vietnam?

Posted by juutsel on 30/4/2010 at 11:31

I have heard that it is possible to put your motorbike on a freight train and whip it with you while you stay in the (bit more comfortable) people wagon but I cannot find a good thread about how this works and what the prices are. Has anybody shipped their motorbike through the country who wants to share some information? We are in Hue and can't get into Laos at Lao Bao with our motorbikes and are now thinking of shipping them to HCMC and selling them there. Any suggestions on how ...

One amazing bike for sale, has made it all the way from Saigon with little trouble. (If there was none what fun would it have been?) Good runner, the only Minsk in Vietnam with waterproof hard panniers (that I've seen.) I'll be throwing in an entire collection of tools that I've aquired, a map, several bungee tie downs, various extra parts and cables, a good piece of rubber tarp (assuming I don't use it tomorrow), and priceless advice for the journey! All this can be yours for only 300 USD! ...

Army Green Minsk in Hanoi for sale

Hey guys! Im currently in Hanoi and have finished my journey from the south, Saigon to the north, Hanoi and now selling my russian beast for $300 or best offer (any offers welcome within reason). Its been an amazing adventure and riding through Vietnam by motorbike makes regular travelling on bus and train etc pale in comparison. The sights, sounds and fresh air rather than air con and the locals you meet on the way will be missed sorely, but need to sell in order to move on to Laos. ...
