Cost Phillipinnes vs Thailand

Posted by mikethediver on 28/2/2011 at 01:34

Hi all, Can anyone give me a rough guide to accommodation prices in Philipinnes against what I pay else where in Asia? In Thailand I normally pay around 300 B and in Cambodia $5 a night for fan room. Am I likely to find similar priced rooms? Planning to go to Angles, Purto Gallero, Borcay, & Cebu. Any other advice is welcomed! Cheers, Mike ...

Beach Resorts in Philippines

Posted by panlou on 29/7/2010 at 14:29

Hi to all, I am looking to spend 5-6 days with my wife around Xmas/NY in one of the high end resorts in Philippines for relaxation after a few weeks of running around other parts of SEAsia. I have my eyes set on the El Nido region and specifically El Nido Miniloc a Lagen Island Resort. Has anyone been? Would you recomend it? Can anyone propose any alternatives? I was told that Boracay could also be an option but the photos of El Nido seem to indicate that its exaclty what we would like. Thank ...

From Bali to Davao

Posted by Remedy on 14/3/2012 at 15:32

Hi, I am trying to figure out the best way of travelling from Bali to Davao City, but every suggestion I have got from different search engines seems to take "the long way around" including stops in Jakarta, Manila and so on. Has anyone made this trip or able to shed some light on how to best make it. Doesn't matter if it's by sea or plane as long as it's relatively easy. Cheers, ...

El Nido or Coron for one week?

Posted by ekumbier on 17/7/2011 at 09:05

Hi all, This is my first post here. It seems this site may be more geared to mainland SE Asia, but I will give this a shot. I will post much more in the future, as I'm planning a longer backpacking trip in SE Asia for next year. My girlfriend and I are English teachers in Seoul and get one week for vacation From December 24th-January 1 (I realize this is peak season, but we have no say in the matter). We were originally planning on going to Bohol, as some of our coworkers had been last year ...

Manila hostel for solo female

Posted by elysek on 6/7/2012 at 18:37

Hey! Just looking for a recommendation for a good hostel to stay in for a solo female traveller. I will be flying into Manila at 530am and will be looking for a place to chill for the day (will be booking for the night prior, cause I doubt anyone will check me in this early). I will be catching the night bus to Banaue with Ohayami Trans, so somewhere that I can easily get to from the airport, and also get to the bus terminal would be ideal. I have been looking into Where2next. Seems like nice ro ...

2-3 wks in Philippines - Jan or Mar?

Posted by Beckyh on 17/4/2012 at 13:05

Hi everyone We're looking to go to the Philippines for our honeymoon next year. We're not going directly after the wedding so flexible on dates - either late Jan or early March (so to avoid CNY). Is there any better time to go? We're starting off in Manila, visiting the Taal volcano then onto Bohol, Siquijor and Dauin. We might do a stopover in HK as neither of us have been there but not sure whether we're packing too much in (trip is likely to be about 2.5wks in total) or whether there is anywh ...

Travel to Negros Occidental

Posted by rinabanana on 7/6/2010 at 12:05

Hello! The Negros Island has a lot to offer. Negros Occidental offers both beach and mountain resorts. The town of Sipalay located south of the island has a long stretch of white sand beaches. Punta Bulata is also a nice resort. In the north, you can visit the man-made Lakawon Beach resort in Cadiz City and the sandbar, Carbin Reef, located at Sagay City. Further north is Bantayan Island. For mountain resorts, the Mambucal Resort is a must see with its 7 falls. If you want to experience hardco ...

A week in Manila (for work)

Posted by KazAussie on 30/3/2012 at 02:50

Hi, I will be in Manila for a week for work, will only have one Sunday to do any sight-seeing, any suggestions? Also good places to try local foods etc at night would be good. I am not into big shopping malls and fine-dining, and will be travelling on my own, so somewhere where it is pretty safe to sit out on the street and people watch would suit. I am staying in Makati. I have travelled quite a bit in Asia but haven't been to the Philippines before, so any hints or tips would be appreciate ...

Some visa cannot application in Philippine

Hi, I am not to come to Philippine yet, but from Viet nam, I helped some Philippine's people, who need to go abroad, make visa application to come other countries (Bulgaria, Ukraine); They cannot make the visa from Philippine. I knew there are only 58 country's embassies in Philippine (see the list: http://embassy.goabroad.com/embassies-in/Philippines#). If someone would like to come to other country from Philippine, if any, it is better to completed the visa application before come in Philippi ...

Borneo to the Philippines

Posted by scottyheather on 26/1/2012 at 06:36

Hi peeps - long time no speak. Just a quick question, we are planning our next holiday and want to fly to Borneo for a few weeks and then take the ferry to Zamboanga but we've heard it's not safe there. I know that this is a subjective question, but would you think it would be relatively safe to do this? Our alternative would be to fly from Kota Kinabalu to Manila but that really wasn't how we wanted to do this trip. Any advice would be appeciated. ...

Why no Philippines on the site?

Posted by AGRO on 30/11/2011 at 01:38

I'm an avid reader and fan of travelfish and rely on it heavily for travel advice and just overall reading. However I'm always wondering why there is almost no action on this site on The Philippines. My answer on Twitter as to "why"? Simply said "We've never been there! One day" Which makes sense because how can they write about somewhere they've never been. But I noticed on this forum for example there are thousands of posts about other SE Asian countries while The Philipp ...

Kalibo to Boracay by Helicopter

Posted by MLR1907 on 31/1/2012 at 22:58

I'm travelling from Kalibo to Boracay on March 29th and would love to use the helicopter transfer service. This is however VERY expensive for a lone traveller so I am wondering if there is anyone out there that would like to book between us as it is much cheaper (PHP 19,000 per person) for a booking of three people. Anyone travelling on the afternoon of the 29th fancy a transfer in style let me know! ...
