My family and I (2 adults, 3 children under 12) will be in the Philippines from mid June to mid July 2015. We are interested in homestays with local people, being involved in their way of life, eating their food etc. Any area will be considered. I would like 100% of my money (if possible) to go to my host and the local community in which we stay, rather than admin fees for an internet site. However, internet site info is also welcome. We have basic needs and can all sleep in together. River bath ...

Thefts Abound in Siargao, Philippines
Be aware of many thefts on resort rooms and private rentals while traveling in Siargao. We fell victim to a house break-in and robbery during our stay here in late December 2014 in the area of General Luna and Cloud 9. After the theft, we spoke to many business owners and ex-pats who live there only to find out that this is a very common occurrence and has been for the past several years. Prior to our visit I read nothing about this and after our visit h ...

My boyfriend and I will be landing in Manila, Philippines this February. Be both love adventure, eating and being lazy beach bums. The only places we are certain about visiting is El Nido and Boracay. Everything else we are open to. Our only objective is that we rather pick a few good islands to see rather then spend a lot of time catching flights to the next island.
I'd love to hear recommendations of where to go and what to do! ...

I have heard a report that there is a taxi scam taking place at the arrival area of Terminal 2 of NAIA. This is the terminal for PAL flights. There will be uniformed men asking if you need a cab and they will take you to the a room. They even have receipts, a sign board with prices for different destinations. However, you will be overcharged and you will be taken to a unmarked car. Some people say the signboard has prices in US dollars.
AFAIK, there are 2 official airport taxis. When you get ...
I'm a U.S. citizen, resident in Spain, with a California Driver's License (CDL). My CDL is not valid in Spain, and driving school, etc will cost me more than 1.000€ and several months.
However, the Philippines as a former Spanish colony has a convalidation agreement and it's possible to convert a Philippine's DL to a Spanish one.
I've also read that it is easy to convert a foreign CDL in the Philippines, for approx. 20€, which is my question.
Does anyone know if it wou ...
NAIA Terminal 1 is operating beyond its design limits (6 million passengers) and I avoid it like the plague. Fortunately more airlines are moving to the tolerable Terminal 3 and the list includes
Terminal 2 is exclusively Philippine Airlines.
So when flying in and out, try to to avoid airlines that use Terminal 1. It remains to be seen if the transfer of these airlines will decongest T1 sufficiently. ...
Due to the construction of an elevated highway, traffic around NAIA is horrible. Be prepared to add at least 30 minutes to the usual travel time.
The best way to minimize the delay is to take tell your taxi driver to take skyway from Makati. You will still get stuck near the airport but you can reduce somewhat the delay. If you are heading to Terminal 3, there is less traffic inside Newport City/Resort World. ...
The NAIA Terminal 3 bus that goes from Terminal 3-Baclaran-MRT Taft Station is back in service.
Fare is 20 pesos.
I don't know if there are similar buses at Terminal 2 (PAL) and Terminal 1. There is an inter-terminal bus that serves Terminals 1,2,3 and 4. ...
