No need for transit visa or exit taxes at Bangkok airport, is there?

Posted by EdwardTrunk on 4/1/2014 at 14:42

We're flying from UK into Bangkok airport, then off on a flight to Laos hours later. Subsequently flying from Hanoi to Bangkok to catch a plane to London. Are there any demands for transit visa or 'exit tax' at Bangkok airport? I had assumed not but would like to check. ...

Chinese New Year in Bangkok 2014

Posted by adamandamydrew on 3/1/2014 at 11:56

Hello, We want to experience the best of the Chinese New Year celebrations in Bangkok this year (31st Jan 2014). We're working in the day of Friday 31st January, but have the evening free, and the rest of the weekend. But I'm struggling to find any schedules, or information on the festivities. Can anyone give me any tips like: * When are the fireworks, where is it best to view them from? * When are the parades & what routes do they take (plus are these just on Friday 31st Jan, or also on S ...

Has anyone caught the bus from the southern bus terminal to hua hin? Did you just turn up and buy ticket at the counter and did you have to wait long for next bus? How long for the journey? Did the bus stop for a comfort stop, or does it have an onboard toilet? Thanks, Art ...

Advice/Inspiration for a newbie!

Posted by GentlemanLlama on 2/1/2014 at 13:31

Hi all, I've decided 2014 is the year I actually bite the bullet and do some proper travelling. My plan is to head over to Thailand for 4-5 weeks after I finish my degree in May (looking like end of May/start of June to July), and I have a couple of things that I certainly want to do, but beyond that I'm stuck. I should point out this is day 1 following my decision to do this trip, so I do have a lot more research to do! My budget is up to £2000. I definitely want to get a Sak Yant tattoo ...

Bangkok shutdown

Posted by zls on 2/1/2014 at 05:38

Hello, unfortunately my long haul from Bangkok leaves on Jan 16. I will arrive by train from the south and wonder if and how I will be able to get to the airport. Right now I plan using MRT and the airport train and I have a lot of time. Anyone have a better idea? I will also have to go through Bangkok on Jan 9, but don't expect major difficulties on that date. Opinions? Thanks for sharing your thoughts, ZLS ...

Renewing Visa

Posted by pdropl on 2/1/2014 at 19:51

Hello everyone, My 30 days visa is about to expire and would like to stay a couple of months more traveling around the country. I am in an island on the border with Burma and I heard one can take a boat to the border, spend a few hours there and renew the visa. The question is, would I have problems if I do this twice in two moths to get two more 30 days visas? Any tips? Thanks in advance. ...

Protests / Where to Stay

Posted by ktothej on 27/12/2013 at 13:33

Hi All, First post here, thanks for the knowledge you all impart, I've been doing a considerable amount of reading. I'm looking for some opinions on the protests and where to stay to best avoid them in Bangkok. My wife and I will be in Bangkok for 3 days 12th - 15th of Jan then again on the 30-31, I currently have accommodations booked on Samsen Rd in Banglamphu area. Based on Richard Barrow's map of the protest areas, it seems a bit close to the zone around the Government House so I'm consi ...

Ao Noi resort, Ko Kut/Kood

Posted by Tennouji on 7/12/2013 at 00:08

Has anyone stayed at this place in one of the fan bungalows as a walk-in customer recently? If so, how much did you pay? I'm not a great fan of booking in advance but as I'll be heading to Kut in the run up to Christmas I thought I might. They don't seem to have their own website and the booking sites have the fan bungalows for 1,400! Seems a bit pricy for a fan room. The beach looks lovely but I'm not really wanting to pay so much to book if is cheaper as a walk-in. However, I've been to Kut ...

I realise this is less trodden ground than elsewhere, but if anyone has any experiences worth sharing I would love to hear. Thanks Chris ...

Best Experience for Wildlife

Posted by RachelW on 8/3/2011 at 04:26

Hi there I was looking to go back to Thailand in Sept / Oct and wanted to spend some time with local wildlife. What is everybody's best experience / recommendation? and which are the ones that really are genuine conservation programmes and in the animals best interests. I am sure most of them will not be 'wildlife' per say anyway as they will be in reserves. I have the following ideas in mind Elephant Nature Park Lampang - Mahout training Tree top Asia (Gibbon safari)- not strictly wildlife ...

Andaman Coast/Itinerary Advice

Posted by Ace8c on 30/12/2013 at 12:14

My husband and I are headed to Thailand in mid February (we are in our early 30s). We will be there 10 days. We fly into BKK and would like to go straight to Chiang Mai for 3 days and then head to the South - we were thinking of flying to Krabi and then heading over to Koh Lanta and maybe doing some island hopping for 5 days, then heading back to Bangkok for 2 days before we fly out. Does this seem feasible? My biggest question is where would you suggest going in the South? I have heard ...

Running shoes in thailand?

Posted by Carbide on 28/12/2013 at 14:08

Hi, I am curious what to bring for footwear to Thailand. Only bringing a 40L pack and have some flipflops and Aasics running shoes right now. Will this be sufficient? I would like to workout during my travels so I figured a running shoe would be appropriate. They are black, will this be a problem in that climate? Should I opt for Nike Free's? (they are a bit lighter in weight and can get bright colours, probably more packable). Will likely want to do some hiking in Chang Mai, etc. I have size ...
