from Singha to Samui
My 17 YO daughter and I are going to Thailand for almost a month in June 2014. The first week we would like to go to an island. We both love to swim, sunbathe, snorkel, hike some, and really need some help deciding which island or islands to visit. We have about a week. So far I have been leaning towards, Koh TAo, Koh Chang, Koh Samui or Koh Phangan (but it will be FMP) I am not interested in the party scene at all. We like to eat out and shop a little and explore some. We may fly there from Ban ...

Farmer protesters on their way to Suvarnabhumi Airport
Posted by DLuek on 20/2/2014 at 21:20It looks like the angry rice farmer contingent is on its way to Suvarnabhumi today. According to the Bangkok Post, a leader "insisted that the farmers have no intention of seizing the airport, but admitted that passengers might have some difficulty getting there." That means the access roads might be overrun by tractors, trucks and a few thousands farmers by this afternoon. Definitely a good day to take the Airport Rail Link. Very sad to see the latest developements in Thailand but hopefully it will still be OK for my 14 day trip starting next Thursday. I have planned a bit of a trek around which includeds Bangkok, Pattaya, Chiang Mai and Krabi (Ao Nang). Does anyone have advice on a decent company for Quad Biking in any of those places? Would look for an interesting trip as well as an opportunity to 'have a blast' I have looked at Trip Advisor but nothing was conclusively good. Some friends and I found a small Qu ...

My girlfriend and I are landing in Bangkok on the 7th of May for 5 months. She really wants to go to the beaches first so we'll make our way down to the islands down south. Probably going to fly as it's only 1200bhat to Phuket! However, I'm not sure where to go. Because of the weather I'm assuming that Koh Samui would have the better weather for splashing in the sea/diving/laying on the beach. But Phi Phi/Phuket seems more interesting. What are we looking for? Diving, snorkeling, beautiful beac ...

Some pretty serious clashes between anti-government protesters and riot police taking place right now in the vicinity of Ratchadamnoen Avenue. Khao San Road is still safe but tear gas is in the air as close as Rattanakosin Exhibition Hall. The whole of Ratchadamnoen is best avoided. Also a tense situation at the Ministry of Interior, not far from the Grand Palace. If you're in the Old City, you're best off sticking close to KSR and/or the river, or taking the express boat down to Chinatown a ...

Hi, I am planning a trip to Thailand starting in late March/early April. I would love to start off my trip by exploring some of the islands on the Northern Adaman coast. In the research I have done so far, I have read that the weather on the Adaman coast can start getting rough in April. Do you think its still worth checking out this area in April? I am planning on checking out Ko Surin islands, Ko chang, Khao Sok National Park. I am looking for a more active and outdoorsy experience and woul ...

Wearing Red in Thailand - Cambodia - Vietnam
Posted by SoloGirls on 15/2/2014 at 21:31So I'm packing for my trip and it has come to my attention that I have a lot of red clothing. Most of which I can easily avoid bringing. But I'm looking to bring a longer pair of shorts for temples and whatnot and I only have 2 pairs that are longer. One are so bulky and heavy, I just don't want to bring them. They would take up so much space and be really hot. The other are red board shorts. So they are really light. But they are most definitely red. Is this a concern? I won't be going ...

Posted by BAMAnug on 16/2/2014 at 16:05Hello all. Just booked my flight into Thailand for a two week vacation. Will be backpacking alone. June 28-July 1---Bangkok and Pattaya. Just explore, try and take in the big things. July 1-July 5----Chiang Mai (flying from Bangkok). Plan on volunteering at the Elephant Nature Park, as well as doing some sort ...

Have Phuket hotel prices really doubled in 7 years?
Posted by LeonardCohen1 on 16/2/2014 at 19:49I haven't been there for nearly 7 years and the other day looked at a nice resort I stayed at last time. I paid 1800 baht low season for a deluxe room. I see they now charge 3500 for the same room low season and they call it an internet special LOL. Looked at other resorts I know and the same sort of price rises have occured. In other places prices have gone up 200-300 baht but not double like that. I'm guessing the number of flights into Phuket have increased a lot and the hotels can now cha ...

Thailand with baby - trip report
Posted by mikefly on 16/2/2014 at 09:04Hi, Thanks to everyone who offered up advice before we went. In November we took our 10 month old from Toronto to Thailand for a 4-week holiday. Notes: #1) 12 time zones is a LOT! Somewhere closer would have been easier. #2) The bulkhead on Cathay Pacific was unbelievably spacious and made the flight super easy #3) We preferred local hotels to chains #4) Sharing a room for 4 weeks was tough. It would have been better to rent apartments on airbnb (or similar) Arrival in Bangkok - Westin Sukh ...
