Andaman Coast/Itinerary Advice

Posted by Ace8c on 30/12/2013 at 12:14

My husband and I are headed to Thailand in mid February (we are in our early 30s). We will be there 10 days. We fly into BKK and would like to go straight to Chiang Mai for 3 days and then head to the South - we were thinking of flying to Krabi and then heading over to Koh Lanta and maybe doing some island hopping for 5 days, then heading back to Bangkok for 2 days before we fly out. Does this seem feasible? My biggest question is where would you suggest going in the South? I have heard ...

Running shoes in thailand?

Posted by Carbide on 28/12/2013 at 14:08

Hi, I am curious what to bring for footwear to Thailand. Only bringing a 40L pack and have some flipflops and Aasics running shoes right now. Will this be sufficient? I would like to workout during my travels so I figured a running shoe would be appropriate. They are black, will this be a problem in that climate? Should I opt for Nike Free's? (they are a bit lighter in weight and can get bright colours, probably more packable). Will likely want to do some hiking in Chang Mai, etc. I have size ...

Budget room near DMK

Posted by Vaishali on 29/12/2013 at 02:38

Hi, I have a flight at 6:20 a.m from DMK. Does anyone know of a budget accommodation for backpackers. Dorm with shared toilet will do too. I want to spend about 500 THB and we are three! I shortlisted We Train International House and they have accommodation of 6 beds in a dorm at 900 THB but they are force feeding me to accept another room with 3 beds. Can anyone living in Bangkok, call them and help me book 3 beds with them? Their address and number are as follows:501/1 Dechatungka Road, Don ...

DMK Airport to Khao San Road

Posted by Vaishali on 29/12/2013 at 02:33

Hi, Please enumerate the bus and train route to go to Khao San Rd. from DMK Airport. I land at 3 a.m. and wont get my room till 10 a.m. So, I can coose to go by bus or train. Which is economical? And which is better? Ideally, I would like to snooze till 7 a.m. and then shower. Have breakfast and then head for Khao San. Leave my baggage at reception/front desk of my hotel and head for the palace instead of wasting time to get into a room which may not happen for many hours. But does DMK have ...

Hi everyone, we have a late flight arriving into Phuket airport at about 930pm from bangkok and have a few friends flying from New Zealand and arriving at about the same time. We had planned to travel to Patong town and stay there however we were reconsidering staying one night near Phuket airport as we have heard the drive is approx 1 hour to Patong and just want to jump into bed and leave the next morning. My questions is: Is there any accommodation near phuket airport or is it basically ju ...

Travel Suggestions for Couple

Posted by Carbide on 28/12/2013 at 12:50

Hello, We are two newlyweds, late twenties, who will be flying into BKK on January 25th. We haven't definitively planned or booked anything yet and are a bit overwhelmed at all the options. We definitely want to go to Chang Mai to see and interact with the elephants, but for most of the trip we were hoping to explore, scuba (need certification), snorkel and be beach bums. Obviously would like to experience the culture and such as well. We were hoping to avoid the younger raucous crowd that popu ...

So - I finally have my Visa and my tickets and I am bound for Thailand. But I have a conundrum. I have family in Sattahip who asked me why don't I stay with them. That way I won't have to worry about paying rent anywhere. While that's all great and good I also have to give up not only my privacy but also some of my independence. And strange considering - though family - I don't really know my aunts and uncles. Plus - I really want to see what it's like living in a big city like Bangkok - w ...

Can anyone help with some visa info?

Posted by gratefulmames on 26/12/2013 at 11:54

Hey world, trying to get some info on Thai visas. So I'll be arriving in Bangkok on January 10th and doing a yoga program until the middle of April. Now, obviously I will have to renew my visa within this time frame. In order to get my visa before I arrive in Thailand, I need an onward ticket to a neighboring country (or wherever). What I'm wondering is - should I buy an onward ticket within the time frame of the initial visa (a 60day period) and change the flight date later to April after I fi ...

OK kids, when you go backpacking you don't have to fit a specific image OK? Was at Big C today with the wife. I never go there, but I needed something at the computer store. Walking in front of me were two kids. They were wearing fisherman's pants, loose fitting cotton shirts, flip flops and... conical straw hats! They were carring very beefy backpacks with bed rolls on top. For one, it's way too cold out right now for those clothes. Everyone around them had jackets and nit caps and the like o ...

Pricing for Kayak and island tours in Ao Nang

Posted by sunnylegs on 20/12/2013 at 22:12

We are in Ao Nang now for 5 days and want to book some tours and want to get some general idea of prices. I got ripped off by one tour company and found that not everyone paid the same so a little skeptical at the moment... What we are looking for is a full day kayak tour where we can paddle ourselves and see caves, mangroves and gorgeous lagoons. Heard Bor Hor in Phang Nga is great and Thalen Bay..? Have also heard these are good sights too: Crystal Lagoon and hot springs Ko Hong - tour? ...
