Where should I go in Isaan?

Posted by LillaAnna on 28/10/2013 at 11:26

Hi! I would like som advice on nice towns in Isaan. I am a big fan of Laos and love Isaan food, so it's about time I visit the region! I am planning on doing it on the way to and from Laos. My plan is to take the train to Nong Khai , go from Vientiane to Southern Laos and then take the train back to Bangkok from Ubon Rachatani. I'm not comfortable driving in Thailand (driving on the wrong side of the road + sometimes crazy trafic makes me nervous), so I'm mainly looking for places accesseble ...

Loi Krathong in the north (Chiang Rai province)

Posted by somanights on 13/11/2013 at 21:29

Hi all We're keen on getting a good Loi Krathong experience, preferably in a smaller place than BKK or Chiang Mai. Many many towns seem to offer a similar combination of pageantry, so it's difficult to choose our destination. Can anybody offer any recommendations? Or is it likely to be just as good whoever we pitch up? Thanks ...

Thailand & Siam Reap - 2 weeks, in 2 weeks! Normal trip plan help + Fine Dining?

Posted by Ahleckz on 11/11/2013 at 16:02

Hello Travelfish! I know there are heaps of these threads, but I thought I'd just add my own. I'm going to Bangkok on the 24th November, and planning on touring Thailand as well as going to Siam Reap to see my brother. I have no idea where I should go or what I should see! I'm into architecture, modern & traditional, fascinated with brewing & distillation, and would be keen to have a bit of a party (the Full Moon stuff horrifies me though). I'm not into lying around on a beach all day ...

Where should we live for 2 months in Bangkok?

Posted by KaneJinju on 12/11/2013 at 09:05

I'm traveling with a bud, so we'll want 2 bachelors, preferably within the same building. We're planning on staying in Bangkok and as soon as we get off the plane, ideally we wanna drop our gear off at our leased apartments/furnished rooms. Budgeting for about 300USD/month for a clean, furnished room near a convenient way to where the nightlife/city area is. We are clean, non-smoking, straight (if that matters), language learners (I'm learning Korean and French, he's doing Korean and Spanish) ...

Is there such thing as a mini-bus from Bangkok to Aranyaprathet? (Then to Siem Reap)

Posted by rustythomson on 12/11/2013 at 17:14

Is there such thing as a mini-bus from Bangkok to Aranyaprathet? We will then take a taxi from Poipet to Siem Reap And where would I catch it from? Any ideas on how much it would cost as well per person? Are they much quicker than busses (we don't want to be stuck on a bus for 5 hours while they pickup/drop off people). We plan to travel on 25th December 2013 (people have said this should be fine in Thailand) Thanks!! ...

3 Nights in Bangkok - where to stay?

Posted by ebrown12 on 29/10/2013 at 11:07

I am starting my SEA trip with three nights in Bangkok and am very undecided about where will be a good base to stay. From reading many posts and looking at a map, I am undecided between somewhere like Baan Dinso, in the old town area - the accommodation itself looks amazing, not too close to KSR, but in the old town - which is where it seems like most of the attractions I will be visiting in 3 days are. Only negatives, seem to be public transport, flying into Suvarnabhumi would have to make ma ...

Chiang Mai to Chiang Rai?

Posted by Boohoo on 11/11/2013 at 05:20

Hi, I'm currently in Chiang Mai and thinking about my next move. I had thought of Chiang Rai as its on the way to Chiang Khong for the border crossing and slow boat. Wondering if there are any alternatives worth considering other than Chiang Rai. If anyone can suggest some other options I'd love to hear about them. I am looking to leave here on Wednesday and would like to be on the slow boat by/over next weekend. Although I do frequent the bars at night I'm not really interested in a ...

Elephant Nature Park- Chiang Mai

Posted by adbeats06 on 6/11/2013 at 20:20

Hello, I am looking at various elephant parks to visit while in Chaing Mai, and Elephant Nature Park or Patara seem to be the highest rating (from reviews I've read) in terms of the ethical and humane treatment of their elephants. I know both are quite pricey, however I am willing to pay a bit more to ensure the animals are well looked after and are not made to do any tricks, painting etc. Can anyone who has been to either (or may have heard through others) let me know if they would recommend ...

Khao San Road or Not?

Posted by adbeats06 on 3/11/2013 at 23:11

I will be traveling to BKK for a few days before I head up to Chiang Mai, still trying to decide whether or not to stay on KSR. I am a solo traveler so the opportunity to meet other travellers is important to me, however I am 30 and while I still enjoy partying, that is not the main focus of my trip. Am I putting myself at a disadvantage to meet others by not staying on KSR? My next choice would be a guest house in Silom area. Can anyone who has stayed in Silom give me an idea as to how easy i ...

Getting from Kanchanaburi to Prachuap

Posted by karibou on 4/7/2013 at 19:20

I'm hoping to travel from Kanchanaburi to Prachuap Khiri Khan in a single day without going through Bangkok. I was thinking of first getting to Nakhon Pathom somehow and from there taking a train the rest of the way. I've read, though, that trains on the southern line are notorious for lengthy delays. I'm concerned that this might make it a really exhausting day of travel. My preference is to go by train; second choice government bus. Can anyone weigh in? Any realistic estimates of travel ...
