OK kids, when you go backpacking you don't have to fit a specific image OK? Was at Big C today with the wife. I never go there, but I needed something at the computer store. Walking in front of me were two kids. They were wearing fisherman's pants, loose fitting cotton shirts, flip flops and... conical straw hats! They were carring very beefy backpacks with bed rolls on top. For one, it's way too cold out right now for those clothes. Everyone around them had jackets and nit caps and the like o ...

Pricing for Kayak and island tours in Ao Nang

Posted by sunnylegs on 20/12/2013 at 22:12

We are in Ao Nang now for 5 days and want to book some tours and want to get some general idea of prices. I got ripped off by one tour company and found that not everyone paid the same so a little skeptical at the moment... What we are looking for is a full day kayak tour where we can paddle ourselves and see caves, mangroves and gorgeous lagoons. Heard Bor Hor in Phang Nga is great and Thalen Bay..? Have also heard these are good sights too: Crystal Lagoon and hot springs Ko Hong - tour? ...

Cheap Clothes - Thailand or Cambodia

Posted by PeterW on 26/1/2012 at 12:55

Hello. Currently in Bangkok and was thinking of buying clothes here. I've come out with rubbish clothes so I can throw them away without feeling wastefull and get a load of new stuff. However, is it better to buy clothes in Cambodia (I'm flying there on the 28th)? I don't want to spend cash here and find out a 3 day wait could sort me out for half the price. Any info would be great as I've heard from others that Cambodia is far cheaper than Thailand for things like accomodation and cigs. Cu ...

KOH LANTA - Long Beach Accommodation High Season

Posted by adammont on 4/12/2013 at 06:11

Hi, I am trying to find accommodation on Koh Lanta in January. We (me and partner) are interested in staying on Long Beach. We would be happy with a simple (clean) bungalow on or near the beach. (Swimming pool would be a bonus) Is it advisable to book somewhere in advance or would we be ok just turning up at the pier and trying to find somewhere?? Bit worried as it is high season. If you have any suggestions on where to stay for around 1000 - 1500 THB per night that would be brilliant. Many ...

Affordable Luxury Villa along Andaman Coast, Thailand

Posted by reneejm1 on 14/12/2013 at 20:41

Hi I'm travelling to Thailand in February 2014 and will have a few days at the end of my trip by myself, I'll probably be in Phuket so was hoping to see more of the islands. My friend and I are planning on visiting Bangkok, Phuket, Koh Samui, Koh Phangnan and Koh Phi Phi. I was trying to find another island on the Andaman Coast where I could possibly stay in a luxury villa or resort that was rather affordable for two - four nights by myself just for some down time. Note that I'll be backpacki ...

A good barber in Bangkok?

Posted by ktontour on 16/12/2013 at 08:17

Trivial I know, but in an effort to avoid a skinhead, can anyone advise on a good barbershop in Bangkok? I've been unilaterally warned off it by everyone I've met thus far who's ventured a try.. but I'm 3 months in and starting to resemble Patrick Swayze circa Dirty Dancing... but with none of the rhythm or sex appeal. With sincere thanks ...

Searching for thai food - in thai

Hey All I'm about to arrive in thailand, after several hundred days away, and this time, despite it being the 10th time I'm traveling there, I'd like to get my street food done correctly. Can anyone discuss this a bit further, with some thai names (with pronunciation) for these snacks and general foods that I should be expecting to see and look for? I'll mostly in Bangkok, and then further south near koh lanta for much of my two week stay. I'm really hoping that this time I can take proper ...

Protests in Bangkok today (Monday December 9, 2013)

Posted by somtam2000 on 8/12/2013 at 18:13

Yes the protests are back on following a brief break for the King's Birthday. Common advice is: a) I've you're arriving or departing to Bangkok today by air, allow an extra hour or so to get to the airport. If you're using Suvannabhumi, use the rail link. b) Avoid the protests -- these are not put on for tourists. c) stay informed of developments (news websites etc - some useful links further on) d) Keep in mind that the vast majority of Bangkok (and the country for that matter) are entirely un ...
