Posted by somtam2000 on 20/6/2008 at 18:22

I just received the following release from Care for the Wild, a UK-registered conservation group. In the past we've suggested visitors to Thailand should consider carefully before visiting the Tiger Temple in Kanchanaburi. This release, with a link to the full report, should be considered essential reading for anyone considering visiting the place. ##release starts Tiger Temple- Illegal Wildlife Trafficking, Animal Cruelty and Tourist Safety Risks http://www.careforthewild.com/news.asp ...

Hi, guys, I spend time did some research for the trip but still feel more comfortable to post a new thread for more opinions. 3 of us will fly into Bangkok on May 21st and out on June 8th. We don't want to rush through too many places, we have a list of things thing we want to do: Chiang Mai, Hot Springs, rain forest, trekking, beach, snorkeling and diving. We are older group so we want to avoid backpacker party scenes and more quiet place is prefered. From what I have read, there are good ...

Bangkok hotel recommendations

Posted by Max2010 on 9/5/2017 at 06:54

The hotel that I have been using for decades located in the Sukhumvit/Asoke area is closing this year so now I need to find somewhere to stay. Apart from the odd occasion when this hotel was full I have never had to consider looking for anywhere else. It was never the smartest of places but was clean and friendly. The staff would even remember my kids from when they were toddlers up to now being 20 and 17. Obviously the choice is immense so any recommendations would be a help. Preference is to s ...

Posted by snepat on 5/5/2017 at 00:22

Hi, I'm doing a last minute 1-week trip, and I'm hoping to find an island that is in order of priority: -Walkable, or has walkable parts -not too touristy but has outdoor activities -has decent beaches/scenery -not a long journey to get to(super long boat transfers) Really liked Koh Yao Noi but wished the beaches were a bit better. Thanks! ...

Would you spend 18,000 baht on dinner in Chiang Rai province?

Posted by somtam2000 on 5/5/2017 at 02:29

This is a rather high-end take by the NYTimes on kicking around in Chiang Rai province. I dunno, I read the NYT and there is no way on earth I'd even consider paying 18k for dinner for two up that way. Thoughts? ...

Thailand in July

Posted by Idan78 on 11/4/2017 at 16:57

Hi My wife and I are coming to Thailand in July for a week. Thisnis our 9th time in Thailand but first in that period as weather in Phang Nha islands tend to be rainy. We are looking for a 5 stars resort and but Kho Samet has only one 5 star resort which is very pricy. We consider Hua Hin/Cha Am but I am afraid it has mote camily orientation and the beaches are not " Thailand feel like" and not so special. So we left only Kho Samui (or Phangan..) 1. Does anyone have amother beach desti ...

Going to Koh Lanta? Don't go to the Mango Guesthouse which is featured on Travelfish

Posted by LilianKok on 3/5/2017 at 05:28

We have had a horrible experience at the Mango Guesthouse + Villas on Koh Lanta. This place is featured on Travelfish, but I would strongly recommend everyone traveling here to find accommodation elsewhere. Below is the full story as a review I wrote on several channels: Me, my husband and mother (from Holland) booked one week at the Mango Guesthouse suite two+three. This accomodation was supposed to be the 'luxury' ending to a 3 week trip with mom and husband. Me and my husband had been trave ...

Five weeks in Thailand with three small children

Posted by martinah on 21/4/2017 at 13:41

Dear Thailand-experts, We have visited Thailand twice for a month each time, as a family of four, and travelled in the eastern region, Koh Chang, Koh Kood, Koh Wai, Koh Maak and Trat, Chanthaburi and of course Bangkok. This time we are five (two adults and children of 7,5,1). We would like to see some new places, yet fear we won't enjoy them if they are too crowded. We didn't quite like Koh Changs northern beach (white sand beach) due to that reason. We love street food and finding genuine g ...

Hello, I'mseeking a budget room for rent in Patong Beach, Phuket. I have got offers in 450-500$ permonth, and they also do not let a joiner enter into the room. It's unreasonablesince I hire a room with a double bed, meaning the room is for 2 people, So Idon't understand why I need to pay extra if I enter a girlfriend from time totime... Anyway,I would be happy to hire a double bed room in a reasonable price. The proximityto the beach is not so important since I intend to use a scooter. Be ...

Where to find an electric kettle in Koh Lanta?

Posted by Megancornelius on 12/3/2017 at 23:20

My partner and I are staying in Koh Lanta for 10 days. We found a great affordable room but we are looking to cook in our room to save $ on dining out. Any idea about where to find an electric tea kettle on the island? A handheld water boiler would work as well. We are in the south but could rent a scooter to get north if need be. ...

Family Travel Bangkok Airport Prices?

Posted by goodmclean on 14/4/2017 at 22:38

We are a family of 5 (Mum, Dad, 9, 7, 5) trying to get to Suvarnabhumi Airport on Monday. We are staying near Bang Chak BTS. I have calculated that if we take the BTS and then the airport train link it will cost us 100B each (kids are the same price as adults). Does anyone know if we can take a taxi for the same price or less? We are Backpackers, so we don't mind moving and carrying, but if we can cut out the hassle and do it for the same price, we will. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Tha ...

Renting motorbikes in Chiang Mai, police problems

Posted by lucasan on 18/3/2017 at 02:06

I stayed some 10 days in Chiang Mai in march 2017 and had a free motorbike form a friend that lives there. In town, along the moat and on the "Superhighway" there were several check points where the police stopped only thais with no helmet and all the farangs, regardless of if you have an helmet or not. Unlike in any other place in Thailand, Cambodia and Burma, where I spent almost four months, moped drivers with no international driving licence, like I was, are fined 400 Bahts for t ...

Thung Khai Canopy Walk near Trang - hard to get back to Trang

Posted by HeidiSmith on 8/4/2017 at 22:29

Based on the Travelfish notes on Trang and 'things to see', my husband and I and Thai god daughter (adult) independently visited the Thung Khai Arboretum using public transportation because the canopy walk seemed to be a lot of fun. It is a lovely park…so quiet…and the canopy walk is excellent. Free. The T Fish notes said that there are buses leaving the central bus station that pass right by the entrance (correct) and that you can catch a minibus or bus returning along this same road int ...

Advice on planning a Thai trip in August.

Hey guys, We are going to Thailand in August. Everyone keeps telling us that it's the worst time due to the rainy season. This is why I am planning like crazy and I need some help. So far, this is what's sure: we are flying to Bangkok and planning to stay for 3 days or so. Then probably we will fly to Phuket and stay there for 1 or 2 days and then head to Krabi to check out some of the beaches and islands (I'd really appreciate someone's opinion on which islands to visit and ho ...
