My girlfriend and I are planning a trip to Southeast Asia in August and I'd greatly appreciate some help concerning our plans north of Bangkok. Here are our parameters:
-We have about three weeks, starting from Bangkok and ending with a flight from Chiang Mai to Hanoi.
-Generally, we would like a relaxed pace of travel, but would love to hear what people think is realistic.
-I am experienced traveller and we have a decent budget (mostly midrange hotels).
-I am obsessed with f ...
Hello, I'd like to go from Koh Lanta to Phi Phi in the morning (I know there is a boat departing at 8:00) but is the last boat going from Phi Phi to Koh Lanta at 15:30???
Is there another link solution in order to stay much longer in Phi Phi (without sleep there)??
Furthermore, each link I have checked (krabi, phi phi, lanta...) doesn't leave after 15:30... no boat runs after this time? is it forbidden?
Thank you very much. ...
In a few weeks I'm planning to cross into Koh Kong, Cambodia from Trat, Thailand via the Hat Lek - Cham Yeam Border Crossing. However, according to Google Maps the Thailand Border Crossing Checkpoint at Hat Lek is "permanently closed." (See map here). This seems strange to me and I can't find any information on the internet about the border crossing being closed.
Has anyone crossed through this checkpoint recently? Any news about whether it's open or not?

I’ll be heading to Bulon early March and was wondering ifanyone can recommend a good place to stay? I’m looking for something basic, clean and safe close to a nice beach for up to 1500 THB max with twin beds. I’ve already checked out Pansand Resort website but that starts at 1700 Baht.
Also, would it be necessary to book ahead or is it safe enough for that time of year to just turn up as I’ve heard that tourism in Thailand is down this year?
We've just learned of the passing of Gill Daley, the English co-founder of the Soi Dog Foundation on Phuket . She was just 58.
The Phuket News has a good obituary up for her and you can read our coverage of the foundation here. The official site is here.
Over the years the foundation has saved thousands of animals and inspired both locals and foreigners alike to volunteer, assist, donate and even adopt animals in need.
RIP Gill ...
I will be in Thailand from the end of March (arrival either 30/31st into Bangkok) for 1 month and would like to visit some areas in Isaan and head north to Chiang Mai (my friends will be there 11th-18th April so i would like to see them on one of those dates.
I was wondering what the best route would be for exploring Isaan over 12/14 days whilst heading up to Chiang Mai? I'm interested in temples, nature, walking, maybe couple of days in a city.
Once in North Thailand I'd like to v ...
Can someone tell me how I get from Si Satchanalai to Lampang? Do I rejoin the bus that dropped me off from Sukhothai? Or are there songthaeows (sp) from somewhere?
I don't know why I forgot to ask this question in the planning stage.
I'm learning how, after all my travel experiences, Thailand manages to bewilder me.
I need to travel tomorrow (Saturday)! ...
The 12:30p bus waited for 45 min past departure so far, apparently to fill more seats?
There may be a way to embed a photo of the company, but I don't know it.
I am beginning to think that I should just have rented a car. ...
I am a Canadian citizen with a single entry (2 month) visa, which I would like to extend for one month. I entered Thailand Jan.10th & would like to extend it on Feb. 15th - Is this possible? In Krabi?
Thank You ...
Been a few years since I last visited Ko Chang & some of the nearby islands. This May 17 I'm heading to Ko Kut . Are there direct boats to Ko Kut from Trat or do I have to get one from Ko Chang? Any recent knowledge/advice most welcome. Thanks, JeremyH. ...
I arrive in Bangkok on the 13th at 3:30pm and I will be starting my PADI course at 4:30pm the next day.
My question is: Where should I stay for the first night? The way I see it there are 3 options which I have listed below. I am curious as to whether it is worth going to Bangkok for the afternoon/evening? I will return to Bangkok so there will be other opportunities. Should I go straight to Samui and spend 1 night there? I won't be back except to alight. Or just spend the night near ...
Hi fellow travellers,
I'm planning to travel from Ao Nang to Ko Tarutao on Friday February 24th for a couple of nights and was wondering if I need to book accommodation at Ao Phante Malaka beforehand or is it safe to just turn up?
Also, I want to travel onward to Ko Lipe so is it possible to buy a ticket on Tarutao or do I need to buy one before getting there?
Thanks in advance for any advice!
Hi all. I planned a day trip to see, finally, Doi Suthep. But the costs of transportation seem to vary widely depending on the source. I'd prefer to hire a taxi with A/C for half a day. I'd use this for Wat Buak Krok Luang, Wat Suan Dok, and then Wat Phra That Doi Suthep Ratchawarawihan (the main attraction).
Where can I negotiate this deal, and what would be fair? I really dislike songtaews, they tend to give me headaches and take forever.
Note I will start this trip from Lampang. Woul ...
I want to bring a car to Koh Yao Yai. The car ferry information on the Yao Yai page is unfortunately out of date and no longer accurate. It is difficult in the extreme to get current information (phone numbers go unanswered, web searches turn up little, et cetera). I had a hotel owner there tell me there was a daily car ferry from Ao Nang (I assume she means the Nopparattara pier) but no one else seems to know about it and she could not provide further details. The car ferry servic ...
