Andaman Sea vs the Gulf

Posted by chopin on 26/7/2020 at 12:32

Would like to know if we can only choose one: the west (Andaman Sea) or the east side (the Gulf of Thailand), which one offers the best in terms of: 1. White sandy beaches 2. Snorkeling (corals scene) (we can't dive, so diving is not our concern) 3. General scenery ...

How do I get from Buriram to Roi Et?

Posted by cardkleener on 14/12/2019 at 07:24

I'm looking to go from Buriram to Roi Et. I have searched numerous bus lines and cannot find a bus. The only way I found so far is. Buriram to Khon Kaen. Khon Kean to Roi Et. That makes it a very long trip. I know I could probably take a taxi but it could be very expensive. Any advice would be appreciated. ...

How to travel from Langkawi to Koh Phagnan

Posted by rachledez on 13/2/2020 at 11:05

Hi everyone, Can anyone offer guidance on the options for travel between Langkawi and Koh Phagnan? Firstly, do you have any experience of the following options in terms of comfort/cost: ferry-train-bus-ferry or ferry-minibus-bus-ferry Secondly, will I be able to book the whole trip in Langkawi, or will I have to navigate my own way between each step of the journey? Thanks in advance for your help ...

Chumphon Night Market - worth a visit

Posted by exacto on 20/2/2020 at 04:13

If you find yourself in Chumphon going to/from Koh Tao or the other Gulf of Thailand islands, the regular night market along Krommuang Road east of the train station is absolutely worth a visit. It lines up on both sides of the street for a good kilometer or more, and has a wonderful mix of traditional Thai favorites, with an emphasis on Phad Thai; and modern new influences too, like churros. Market vendors were particularly fun and friendly, even by Thailand's usual fun and friendly standards ...

Watch for Falling Cashews!

Posted by exacto on 18/2/2020 at 02:59

I just spent four nights on Little Koh Chang in Ranong Province, Thailand. The island is a throw back to what I think of as the golden age of backpacking in the 1990's, when the norm was a bamboo hut right on the sand with cold water only showers and electricity from a generator for only a few hours each night. The sand isn't the best here, and the water isn't the clearest, but for aging boomers like me, this is a fun reminder of the good old days and a serious chance to relax. The four nigh ...

advice re: locations for working trip with good wifi and beaches for snorkeling

Posted by CarlRabeler on 2/12/2019 at 22:01

Hi all, I will be traveling to southeast Asia for a few months - I will be doing a bunch of writing that will require me to have good WiFi access for 5-6 hours a day (4-5 days a week), but I will be able to play, snorkel, dive, eat, listen to music the rest of the time. I am looking for recommendations for the Thailand and Malaysia areas (or other areas that you all might recommend). Thanks, Carl ...

Khao Sok tour help

Posted by bradpitch92 on 2/12/2019 at 03:12

My wife and I will be in Khao Sok for 3 or 4 days in February and we're struggling to find a good tour to go on. It appears most tours offer an overnight option in a barebones floating bungalow, but we'd like a little nicer overnight stay on the lake. What have people done to book these lake tours? ...

Honeymoon Itinerary

Posted by wscanl01 on 9/3/2020 at 16:28

Hi, my fiance and I are planning a 2 week honeymoon to SE Asia the first 2 weeks of November. We are looking for a little itinerary advice as this will be our first time in the area. Thailand is #1 on our bucketlist. I was thinking 1 week there and 1 week in Vietnam. Is this possible to do or not enough time? I figured 3 main stops around 4 days each makes the most sense. We would like at least 4-5 days on an island and some time to see the local cultures and try local food. Activities: S ...

Mask Wearing Trends in Mid-Peninsular Thailand February 2020

Posted by exacto on 18/2/2020 at 13:03

As a follow up to Stuart's Coronavirus update in today's (#375 on February 18, 2020) Travelfish newsletter, I've spent the last week in Ranong and Chumphon Provinces in the middle part of the Thai peninsula. Mask use is fairly sparse in these places. For the most part, I'm only seeing people who work with the public full time are wearing them, like the train attendant on the diesel rail car trip today. They were definitely more common on the flight from Bangkok to Ranong (sorry, Stuart, ...

Price Guarantee of AGODA works?

Posted by motohachi on 5/12/2019 at 10:32

Have any of you ever successfully used Best Price Guarantee form of After I entered everything accurately and attached jpg files (very small), and press Submit. Nothing. No error message or anything. So I send an email with attachments. But the response I'm getting looks more like 'avoidance' rather than customer service. As Agoda seems to be using travelfish site to advertise, I wonder any of you have any positive experience. ...

Phrae and Phayao

Posted by gatoguts on 17/10/2019 at 06:16

I will be traveling around Nan and will have 3 or 4 days to stop in Phayao and/or Phrae, two provinces I've never been to. I could split my time between the two, or just spend the entire time in one. Is either one of those places worth the longer stay, or would 2 nights in each be sufficient? ...

Your favorite area close to but not in Phuket

Posted by LTnHH on 24/5/2019 at 15:45

Hello We are planning our Singapore-Thailand trip (Dec 2019-Jan 2020) and will be ending it by four days in the Phuket area--chosen because air connections back for US return are plentiful. I am trying to find feedback on beach areas close to Phuket airport but not Phuket-it does not at all sound like our kind of place. We are in our 50's, not budget travelers but not overly extravagent; love a good beach, good food, and a few tourist options (maybe Elephant sanctuary? Or Tiger prese ...

Pattaya to Hua Hin Ferry - anyone used it?

Posted by exacto on 24/7/2019 at 18:16

I recognize that most Travelfish members don't frequent either Pattaya or Hua Hin, but it seems like the new ferry service linking the two places would be a scenic and time-saving way to get from Ko Samet to Prachuap Khiri Khan, for example, without having to slug through Bangkok. Has anyone used this relatively new service? What did you think? Cheers. ...

Import Duties to Thailand

Posted by DonH on 19/10/2019 at 07:57

This situation may not apply to many readers/subscribers here, but is currently proving a real headache and timewaster for me. My main activity is cycle touring. For my last trip I brought my bike from Australia, never a problem duty-wise crossing borders. This time I ordered a new high-end bike from the Netherlands to be sent to my Bangkok hotel, with me arriving from Tasmania to meet it. Two weeks on it is stuck in Customs with them demanding over 70000 Baht import duty. The bike is my r ...

Custom Clothing - Chiang Mai if possible

Posted by LTnHH on 14/10/2019 at 18:58

Hello We will be visiting Thailand (arriving first in Singapore) end of December 2019. I am interested in custom clothing-perhaps a pants/jacket for me (female) and suit for my husband but we are larger than Asian sizes so I want to look into custom options before we leave US. We will be in Chiang Mai Dec 31 for 4 days - I am not sure yet if New Years is a holiday there- and then Bangkok for three days. I would love to be able to head for somewhere at beginning of either city's visit so as ...

Sea liceLESS swimming areas?

Posted by Ooolga on 10/10/2019 at 07:44

Any suggestions, please...? For now, the only absolute secure place I've found is Ko Muk, and some parts of Lanta and Bulon Le. I visit Thailand in February, mainly to enjoy in swimming, and few times I had awful experiences (Samui, Phangan, Jum) I know not all the people are sensitive to sea lice bites, also that streams which carry these invisible little monsters change, but still hope to here some recommendations from sensitive swimmers... Looking forward to... ...
