Posted by daisybai on 27/4/2016 at 02:11

Hi fellow travellers, Im currently planning a backpacking trip to Thailand for approx 2months starting from December, and would like some help and advice with the itinerary. I want to visit as many places as possible (a south to north loop would be ideal!) but isn't too sure where to go and if a detailed trip can be covered in the span of 2 months? I will definitely hit up on the big backpacking spots e.g.: Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Pai, Ko Tao etc. (was thinking of doing a diving course on Ko Ta ...

Phuket to Koh Lanta Ferry?

Posted by samrolli on 8/4/2013 at 05:30

Hi, I live in Chiang Mai with my wife, we have some family visiting in May and will be staying on Koh Lanta for 5 nights. We are flying into Phuket and spending our first night there and then I was hoping to take a ferry to Koh Lanta from Phuket. I've looked a little bit at Ferries that you can book online and they seem really expensive (1100baht+) for the full trip, I understand that they stop at Koh Phi Phi on the way which I don't have a problem with. But I am trying to find something t ...

Receiving mail in Thailand

Posted by Lisa4521 on 4/2/2016 at 08:37

Hello, so I just realised my debit card will be expiring at the end of the month. However I am leaving the UK for a 3 month trip around Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam on Sunday. Understandably, my bank aren't able to send me a new card in this short space of time. The guy on the telephone explained that my only option is for my family to send my new card to wherever I'm staying. I'll hopefully be in Chiang Mai by the time it arrives, so does anyone had any experiences with receiving post ...

can't decide on!!

Hi, I need some help with my first significant trip to SEA. I have a flight booked to BKK from late Oct to mid Dec, otherwise my plan is a blank piece of paper. I am travelling solo, 57 yrs, male, very fit and much more a backpacker by nature than 5 star guy, though I will be willing to splurge here and there. Also would love to do most of the trip by motorbike if possible but I'm thinking if I do that, then border crossing is not so feasible. Otherwise I would be keen on Laos and Cambodia i ...

Trek & Hill Tribes in Northern Thailand

Posted by jonberardi on 18/4/2016 at 23:19

Hi All, I will be in Northern Thailand with my two children (ages 6, 9) for about one week. We would like to experience a somewhat off the beaten path trek for a couple days to explore nature and visit hill tribes. I did a trek in Pai about 12 years ago and loved it but get the sense that it's more heavily flooded with tour groups. Any recommendations (areas, specific guides) that can fit our needs? Would it be worth the visit to the Mae hong son area or somewhere further west? We're ultima ...

Finding/booking accommodation in Koh Lanta and Koh Jum

Posted by Brad1234 on 6/3/2016 at 18:38

Hi everyone, I'm planning to go to Koh Lanta and Koh Jum for about 3 weeks in March and was wondering what the best way to find accommodation would be. I'll be looking for budget guesthouses. In Koh Lanta and Koh Jum, how do you find what hostels to stay at and how do you book them? Do you use sites like hostelworld, and Agoda or do you contact the guesthouse directly to make a booking? How far in advance would you recommend booking accommodation at these places for this time of ...

Hang drum

Posted by asiantraveler on 2/4/2016 at 02:15

Anyone who has visited Chiang Mai and the temple on Doi Suthep has seen this spot. The long stairs up to the temple and the little square in front of it with the souvenir shops. In a corner just before the stairs a group of people gathered and listened to some music. To me it was the sound of an instrument that I've never heard before. A bit mystical. 2 Backpackers playing the hang drum just fitted the location. Very nice to watch! Is anyone familiar with this ...

Resorts getting in on the spam game

Hi everyone. This morning I received an email from someone claiming to represent Mavaree Village (formerly Fevrier Resort) in Koh Lanta. The message starts: "Lek handed me 4 notebooks full of email address of friends who stayed at the Fevrier. She asked me to email everyone and tell them she sold the Fevrier and now has a new resort, Mavaree Village." Not only have I never been to that Resort, but I've never been to Koh Lanta (and I certainly didn't consent to this company sending me ...
