Surat Thani updated and expanded

Posted by somtam2000 on 1/2/2016 at 01:50

We've just finished updating our coverage for Surat Thani - including the historic town of Chaiya which lies a little to the north. Now I know a lot of you have probably blown through Surat Thani on the way to the islands, but give it a look - you'll find we were able to dig up some interesting things to do, including a boat ride on the Tapi River (homestays available) a good look around Chaiya and, of course, a bit of a poke around Wat Suan Mokkh. Why were you racing to the islands again? ...

Posted by coker on 31/1/2016 at 10:01

I'm an Indian passport holder living in Melbourne on a Permanent Resident visa. I'm traveling to Thailand in early March for a holiday. I want to use the visa on arrival facility available to Indian passport holders at the Bangkok airport. I wanted to know if there could be issues boarding the flight with Jetstar. Will they insist on seeing the visa before letting me board? Anyone here used the visa on arrival and have any issues boarding Jetstar to Bangkok? I do have proof of onward travel. Tha ...

Thailand by train

Posted by asiantraveler on 24/12/2015 at 13:52

Traveling by train through Thailand is a lot of fun. You can meet local people and enjoy some nice scenery. And it's cheap!!! Bur for this you have to travel 3rd class and during daytime. I made a trip from Udonthani to Khorat, right through the rural part of Thailand with a stopover at Khon Kaen . I will post some videos of the trip the next few weeks. First part is from Udonthani to Khon Kaen. Udonthani is a large city in the north east of Thailand and about an hour from the border ...

Advice on Thai island hopping between April/May

Posted by Natashasusan on 21/1/2016 at 03:43

Hi all. I'm embarking on an extended backpacker trip throughout Southeast Asia following 1 week in Bali. From April 20, I'm looking to loosely plan a month of island hopping in the Thai Gulf. I've only ever visited Koh Yao Noi (twice) and this island is a must see for me, again! I am wondering the best town/route to start with. The other islands I want to visit are Ko Lipe (to make day trips across to Ko Adang), Ko Bulon Lae, Ko Muk (maybe) and Ko Jum. I'm an experienced traveller and hav ...

Ko Phayam in May?

Posted by geo_shack on 21/1/2016 at 08:41

Hi folks. Just going to be ending a trip in Myanmar with 10 days or so relaxation in Thailand. We intend to spend a few days at Koh Sok National park then on to an Island... I realise the rainy season will be starting in May...will Ko Phayam likely be too wet to enjoy the beach around this time? (Mid may). Or would we be better off trying to find a quiet part on Ko Pha-Ngan or Ko Samui at this time of year for a few days beach bumming? No interest in partying etc. Thanks in advance for ad ...

Ban Krut

Posted by freiburger on 8/4/2015 at 17:01

I am heading to Ban Krut end of this month for a week. I will stay at Ban Krut resort, this is already decided. But besides that, does anyone have some uptodate information on Ban Krut. I am looking especially for infomation on "bars" and restaurants since these tend to change quite fast. Any good advises out there? How about snorkling? Worth taking all the stuff or better leave it in BKK? I am going to Bali for scuba diving later on, so if there is nothing to do, it makes more sen ...

I'm not really interested in partying or drinking, so my main goals are to experience the outdoors (trekking, scuba diving, and beach bumming), see temples and other interesting cultural places, eat fantastic food, and take some classes on meditation and cooking. Hi everyone, I'm travelling in Thailand for 3 weeks mainly island hopping in the Andaman sea and would like to buy a data sim card to use mostly for Skype and email and make the odd domestic phone call. Can someone recommend the best SIM to get (not too expensive) that gets good coverage? I know it's possible to get SIM cards at Suvarnabhumi Airport but I arrive at 6am and have a flight from Don Muang at 10am so I'm not sure I'll be able to buy one so early in Suvarnabhumi. Is it possible ...

Proof of onward travel from Thailand - I finally got asked...

Posted by altmtl on 13/1/2016 at 17:51

In all my years of travelling to Thailand I always had a return ticket home and usually a visa. This time I didn't get a Thai visa because I knew I was going to Indonesia before the end of my 30 day visa exemption. - my return flight home is 86 days later from BKK - I had my 60 day visa of Indonesia. Much to my surprise at my home airport in Montreal British Airways asked me if I had proof of onward travel, otherwise I would have to buy a ticket out. Fortunately I did have proof as you need it ...
