Ko Tarutao and Ko Adang, do I need to book for early December?

Posted by AlexSEAsia on 4/11/2013 at 05:19

Hi everyone My girlfriend and I are planning to stay 3 nights on ko tarutao followed by 3 nights on ko adang from 1-6 December. Does anyone know if we should book the 2 person bungalows or will we be fine just turning up at this time? If we need to book then has anyone had experience using the online reservation system at the national park website? I tried to make a reservation but it requests payment by bank transfer as I am outside Thailand at the moment. Does it really work or is there an ...

Posted by jsmadrinan on 1/11/2016 at 01:09

Hi! Would anyone be so kind to help me find information about buses from Phrae to Chiang Khan ? Particularly the following questions. (1) Is there a direct public transport/bus going to Chiang Khan from Phrae? (2) If not, can the route Phrae-Phitsanulok-Loei-Chiang Khan be covered as a day journey by public transport/bus, probably leave Phrae 5:30AM and arrive Chiang Khan 7-8PM? (3) what's the schedule of the buses Phrae-Phitsanulok, Phitsanulok-Loei, Loei-Chiang Khan? I hope someone c ...

Visa free arrival rules: are they enforced?

Posted by JeremyNicholl on 24/10/2016 at 13:22

The Thai UK embassy website says that people arriving and wanting visa free entry must have evidence of onward journey (e.g. a plane ticket to another country) and $250 in travellers cheques. I don't recall being asked when I last arrived in Thailand, but that was in the last century and I had a return ticket; this time I only have a one way ticket since I plan to travel around the region for a few months. So does anyone know if these rules are actually enforced? I don't want to arrive and get ...

Kamphaeng Phet to Si Satchanalai

Posted by Sknew on 17/10/2016 at 17:53

Hi all. I am finding it surprisingly difficult to get basic bus information to travel from Kamphaeng Phet to Si Satchanalai. While I have visited Sukhotai before, if the only way to visit Si Satch is via Sukhotai, I will do it. But this seems burdensome. I have yet to find a decent website to get such bus routes, as they leave out the intermediate stops, and Si Satch will always be one. I notice a couple of homestays mentioned under Si Satch. While I'm not young, they should suffice for ...

Travelling to Thailand - Which mosquito repelent do I need

Posted by psantacreuming on 14/10/2016 at 09:44

Hi everyone, I'm looking for a good and natural mosquito repellent for my Thailand trip next month. I will be in Luang prabang and Siem Reap too but mostly Thailand. I've heard that eucalyptus oil or lemon.. are more effective than the ones that contains DEEP. Can someone recommend a good one? I used Goibi brand but it's disgusting and I guess not very healthy. Thanks for your support and help. ...

Travel koh samui to phukett

Posted by MelbourneMuzza on 29/8/2016 at 22:46

A 600 baht bus trip is being offered around the island for a direct trip from your hotel on koh samui to phukett. A minivan picks you up, takes you to the ferry office, you hop on a clapped out bus to the ferry terminal where you go upstairs and the bus loads onto the ferry. During this voyage THEY GO THROUGH YOUR BAGS ON THE BUS. My battery pack was taken even though it was well packed inside (my valuables were with me) After we alighted the bus shoots of to Surat thani on this bus, after a pas ...

Sukhumvit area or Khao san to meet other backpackers ?

Posted by adam0702 on 13/10/2016 at 03:51

Hi guys, I've booked a flight to Bangkok mid Jan 2017 to start a 3 month long trip to SE Asia visiting Thailand, Cambodia and Laos. It's my first time backpacking and I am travelling alone. I have been searching the internet for Facebook groups and forums where I can meet other backpackers to chat with before I leave. I've came across a website introbackpacking.com which offer backpacking inductions in Bangkok. What is the best way to meet other backpackers in Bangkok? I can't really afford a ...

Visa Exempt Extension Clarification (That's a mouthful!)

Posted by TropicTeaTime on 17/10/2016 at 19:00

Hello there, I was looking for a quick bit of advice on Thailands seemingly always changing visa policies. I'm thinking about planning a trip to Thailand that will be longer than 1 month, so I will presumably need something more than the 30-day by-air visa exemption. I read that you could previously get another 30-day extension once you arrive in Thailand at an immigration office, is this still the case? If that doesn't exist anymore, is it better to just make a border run part of my itinerary ...

King Bhumibol Adulyadej has died

Posted by somtam2000 on 13/10/2016 at 06:57

Multiple sources are now reporting that Thailand's Royal Palace has released a statement announcing the passing of King Bhumibol Adulyadej, Rama IV, who was the world's longest-ruling monarch. It is near impossible to describe how highly regarded he was by many Thais and to say this is an unprecedented event in Thai history is not an overstatement. Our condolences to the Kingdom of Thailand and her people. Because of Thailand's strict lese majeste laws, there has been virtually no official dis ...

Phuket to Koh Phi Phi - Ferry alternatives?

Posted by kpottermn on 12/10/2016 at 13:54

My girlfriend and I are planning a trip to SE Asia in March, including 3 nights in Phuket /Koh Phi Phi. The problem is that our arrival/departure times from Phuket would seem to make it impossible to spend more than one night on Koh Phi Phi based on when we can catch a ferry back to the main island. Are there any alternatives to get across the Andaman at an earlier/later hour that won't cost an arm and a leg? What little I've seen on private speedboats suggest they're pretty pricey. ...

Where to go on the Andaman Coast?

Posted by MagsTravels on 27/9/2016 at 13:55

My husband and I are visiting Thailand and want to spend 6-7 nights on the Andaman coast at the end of October/early November 2016. We likely only have time to stay on 2 islands. Any favorites? We are looking for seclusion, and a more luxurious experience but still with lots of natural beauty and culture. Although we are only staying on 2 islands, it's possible to see more thru day trips, right? Any good day trip islands? Thanks so much! ...

Bangkok to Kanchanaburi and back

Posted by chrisTHEbeck on 10/10/2016 at 17:59

Hi, all. We are leaving Bangkok for Kanchanaburi on the early 07:45am train with the intention of staying over 1 night and returning the next day. Unfortunately the returning train to Bangkok leaves so early (2:45pm) that I can't seem to fit my itinerary around it. We are travelling to Kanchanaburi mainly for the waterfalls in Erawan National Park. As we are travelling that far it seems a shame to miss out on all the history surrounding the death railway so we'd like to incorporat ...
