Initial Reactions to Chiang Mai as New American Expat

Posted by RstephenB on 6/9/2015 at 00:14

I had been researching expat destinations for several years and Chiang Mai always seemed to rise to the top in many of the critical ares of consideration. I did a consult with Angela and Chris who produce the "Tieland to Thailand" blog and site and found their input enormously helpful. I had never been to Asia before but am totally open to the change. I arrived August 24 from Vancouver, B.C. It turned out to be the best price for Business Class from the West Coast of North America, I ...

AirAsia fares question?

Posted by Esseff on 2/9/2015 at 16:09

Hey guys, I'm new around here. In my last thread someone suggested I fly AirAsia instead of using the night trains to get around, so I'm looking at AirAsia flights and they appear to be ridiculously inexpensive as well as saving us about 10 hours of travel give or take. My question is, can someone tell me roughly the total cost for a Low Fare ticket from Bangkok to Chiang Mai (one way), and then from Bangkok to Krabi (round trip)? What I'm confused about is that if you upgrade to the Premiu ...

Around Chiang Rai

Posted by metsker on 4/9/2015 at 19:08

Greetings - I have five days slated for the Chiang Rai area and would appreciate any advice regarding any good spots to visit near there. I'm fine with just booking a day or so in Chiang Rai proper and then moving to some smaller town(s) nearby for a night or two. I'm on to Chiang Mai after that. I've read about some of the tea growing communities, etc. Thanks for your help! ...

If you wanna go back to basic for your accommodation and sleep at one of the beautiful beaches Thailand has to offer you should come to Bottle beach 2 resort. It has small huts directly on the beach, fan and cold water only. From the bed you can enjoy the ocean and beach in the morning. Huts are about 500 bht per night. The resort also has a nice restaurant area to enjoy some good Thai food while reading a book or enjoy a beer. Pool table is present, kayaks for rent and just go for a swim. h ...

3 week itinerary -- am I not doing enough?

Posted by alexizfresh on 30/8/2015 at 07:26

Fiance and I are in our late 20s and are doing an almost 3 week honeymoon (19 days) in Thailand this November. Were flying in from Miami (hooorray for 26 hour flights!) 11/17-11/20 Bangkok (overnight train ) 11/21-11/27 chiang mai (flight) 11/27 - 12/5 ko lanta So as you can see, were trying to keep it simple. I'm a firm believer in "less is more", especially because this is our honeymoon. However, I just want to make sure that we arent board at any times. I was thinking one other de ...

The following day we're in Bangkok and we're taking a sleeper train to Chiang Mai (Mon16). We'll spe ...

3 weeks Thailand: This is my itinerary, what do you think?

Posted by lolovitch on 26/8/2015 at 04:16

Hi all, new member checking in, wishing you all the best with your respective travels! We plan a three-week well deserved holiday in Thailand for February next year. My wife and I have been to Thailand previously but it will be a first time for our 4-year old son. While I am convinced that he is old enough not only to accompany us but also to enjoy such a trip, planning automatically becomes a little more elaborate and you ask yourself more questions as a father Currently, we are considering ...

Considering this route, any advice appreciated.

Posted by BuzzmFrog84 on 20/12/2014 at 12:47

MADMAC recommended this route to me and I like the sound of it. I was wondering if anyone had any tips/advice for any of these places or the process of the travel. The time frame is about a month. I'll hopefully have $5,000 USD to spend after my plane ticket. Starting in Trat, to Phimai and Prahear Vihar. Next is Chaiyaphum followed by Leoi. The last stop is Chiang Khan . How do these places sound with the time frame of a month? Also, Would it be best to fly straight to Trat? As f ...

Bangkok to Hua Hin

Posted by flyer99 on 22/7/2015 at 10:14

We are four adults travelling from Bangkok to Hua Hin and returning to Don Mueang airport in mid October. Since there are four of us with luggage, I thought we might just rent a van and driver. But cost is a major factor. Getting scheduled bus or mini-van may be option but then we still have to get to pick up points and airport, which will add to the cost (not to mention handling luggage). Anyone have any specific suggestions? Thanks ...
