Which beach/island?

Posted by Susan on 13/9/2009 at 07:34

We will be in Laos and maybe Vietnam or Cambodia for four weeks next February. We want to end the trip on a realaxing beach...Choices we are considering are Koh Pu/Jum, Ko Chang, or the Surin Isands Nat. Park. Also thought about Phu Quoc in Vietnam. Last time we were in Thailand we did the Poseidan Live aboard in the Similans and loved it, but we want to stay put this time at the beach. We are looking for a quiet spot, with good swimming and snorkeling not too far. Any suggestions would b ...

Chiang Mai-Sukhothai-Kanchanaburi-Bangkok

Posted by ano_1 on 14/9/2009 at 07:46

Hi, I would welcome some opinions of travelling from Chiang Mai to Sukhothai to Kanchanburi to Bangkok. Will have young (and hopefully willing) teenagers in tow, time constraints will only allow 2 nights in Sukhothai (New Sukhothai) and Kanchanaburi. Does the difficulty of the do-ability outweigh the benefits of visiting said Sukhothai and Kanchanaburi. Many thanks for any advice/ opinions offered ...

Questions and itinerary

Posted by TheAlmightyBob on 13/9/2009 at 10:47

(sorry for the vague title and long message, but it seemed perhaps preferable to starting multiple threads... feel free to tell me if I was mistaken) I'm dragging two friends on a quick (3 week) tour through Vietnam/Cambodia/Thailand. Yes, it's very much the well-beaten tourist path. We probably best fit the "flashpacker" category (a term I never came across until Travelfish)... overland travel, budget-but-not-too-budget guesthouses, etc... First, some questions: 1. Chiang Mai trekkin ...

Casino bus to Poipet?

Posted by lukebp on 13/9/2009 at 10:33

Hi, I've heard some reports about a "gambler's express" that departs somewhere around Lumphini Park on Weekend mornings and takes you straight to the border. This seems like it's inarguably the best way to get there. Does anyone have the precise details about this service - where it departs from, exactly, and when? ...

Bangkok->KoSametAfter4pm

Posted by artformsnow on 12/9/2009 at 23:21

Hi folks, I'm planning a trip for this December. My plane will get into Bangkok from Almaty somewhere between 4 and 5pm on a Monday and I'm trying to make it to Ko Samet. Is it possible to do it that day or should I plan to spend the night in Bangkok? From what I've read, it's 3 or 3.5 hours to Ban Phe by bus and the ferries to Samet make their last run around 5 or 6pm so that's out. What about the speedboats? Or would it be advisable to take the bus to Ban Phe (arriving around 9 or ...

how is the beaches at Haad Nopphara Thara?

Posted by Sampan on 3/9/2009 at 16:43

Hello all! I'm soon to leave for a 8 month stay in SEA, mainly Thailand, but will also be visiting some of the neighbouring countries. My travel plans are very "loose" and for Thailand they look something like; arrive in Bangkok and spend about a week to get a feel for it and do some shopping. After that (in the beginning of October) i'm heading down to Krabi and plan to find some quiet and simple beach accommodation suitable for recreation and stay for a month or two. So far t ...

Cooking classes in Samui area

Posted by dgwcooper on 10/9/2009 at 19:05

Does anyone know if there are any good Thai cooking classes available on or near Ko Samui ? I'm in Chiang Mai right now and wanted to do one here, but my time is running short and I don't think I'll fit it in. But I'll be staying on Ko Samui or Ko Tao for about a week later this month; might I be able to get my culinary fix there? ...

Clothes & embroidery in Bangkok??

Posted by husqvarna on 10/9/2009 at 02:56

I will be in Thailand in January and have heard that custom clothes are very reasonably priced. Any advice please. Also, I am interested in getting a daily wear ( not a suit ) jacket made with embroidery and/or patches. I have heard that it may be better to buy one in the USA and get it embroidered in Thailand due to the possibility of low quality jacket material. How do I go about having embroidered patches made in BKK. Thanks ...

Need help working out how to get from Ko Mak/Chang to Phuket

Posted by RuthJ on 9/9/2009 at 19:02

Hi. We're going to be in Thailand for just over 2 weeks at the beginning of November. We've not been to Koh Chang before but would like to go but from what I've read we'd probably prefer Koh Mak. After going there we want to visit friends in Phuket. As we've only got 2 weeks we'd rather fly and save time than do buses. I have found out we can either fly direct from U-Tapao (near Pattaya) or via Bangkok from Trat. I thought I read there were boats from Koh Chang to Pattaya and Koh Samet but ...

When we first fly in to Bangkok we are going to take off to Ko Si Change for a bit to rest and relax before moving on to more exciting places. It's close and easy to get to and looks beautiful. Do you have any recommendations for us while we are there? Any great spots to camp? We have read that the beaches there are terrible (full of trash) and we have read they are surprisingly beauti ...

Calypso Cabaret Show and Khao Kheow Open Zoo

Posted by mhlow on 9/9/2009 at 10:51

I'm nearly done with my planning! Just need to ask u guys a few more questions. 1. What is the actual price for the Calypso? The actual website advertised it to be 900 baht but i;ve seen others that are selling them for only 700 baht. I'm just worried that the other websites are not trustworthy. 2. We were thinking of going to the Khao Kheow Open Zoo? Is it worth the trip there? Or shud we just stick to somewhere within bangkok? Thanks guys! ...
