Where to go after Chang Mai?

Posted by CosmicStar on 8/7/2009 at 05:20

I am travelling around Thailand for 4 weeks from end of July to end of August. I am travelling with a friend and we are starting and ending our adventure on Bangkok. We plan to go straight up to Chang Mai for a week, but are not sure where to go next before we hit the South and the beaches down there. Any ideas on what is really good to see to enhance our experience? Anywhere between Chang Mai and Phuket. Thanks in advance. ...

Should we pre-book a place for the Sept Full moon party??

Posted by xximaxx on 10/7/2009 at 03:34

Hiya, There's three of us heading to the Full moon party on the 4th of Sept this year and I was wondering if it would be silly not to pre-book somewhere?? Its the last week of our 4 week trip in Thailand so going for a bit of a party and relaxing week!! We're planning on heading to Koh Phangan on the 2nd of Sept or so and then staying for a few days. One of my friends says that there's no point booking a place and that it'll be fine!! (she's never been to Thailand though)! ...

1 month whistlestop tour of SE Asia - Possible?

Posted by rick108 on 9/7/2009 at 23:27

Hi Firstly apologises for the long-ish message but I really want to get the most out of SE Asia. I'm a final year medical student and have a medical elective, which is basically where I can travel and experience medicine anywhere in the world. Due to last minute cancellations from my previous destination I was fortunate enough to organise an elective in Mae Sot in Thailand in a refugee camp, which starts in September. However I arrive in Thailand on August 3rd and plan to travel ...

strange/silly laws to be aware of

Posted by Macky on 8/7/2009 at 14:21

I've just bought a one way ticket to Bangkok. Not sure how long ill be in Thialand but I've never been there and I'd like to know if there are any strange laws or customs I should know about to avoid arrest/fines/embarrassment. I've read up on the site and I understand taking your shoes off before going indoors, not touching people on the head, and never turn your back on a buddha statue. Some of my buddies who are still in the navy mentioned something about spitting in public being illegal. ...

Tours \ Treks

Posted by fevoldj2 on 4/7/2009 at 05:55

I've been looking at various jungle treks and they seem to range in price between $250 - $500 for overnight stays. That seems like a lot of money if it is something that is possible to do alone. I have been thinking about going to Khao Sok NP. Is it possible to ride the elephants, go on the river, stay in the floating bungalows, etc and put the trip together piece by piece upon arrival? It would be nice to have freedom over having to stay with a tour group if this is possible and cheaper. Tha ...

Beaches and Babies

Posted by billbevan01 on 6/7/2009 at 04:19

Hi, we're travelling for the first time with a baby this year. We will be going to Thailand in October with our 6 month old for 4 months. We're keen to spend a lot of Dec/Jan on an island with quiet beaches, snorkelling off the beach, good access to water for washing and a hospital nearby just in case we need one, though hopefully we won't. Oh, and hopefully accommodation under 500 baht. So, not asking much :) Does anyone have suggestions for good places to head to? ...

Day trips/tours in N. and C. Thailand

Posted by Jen2412 on 6/7/2009 at 00:48

I'm going to be travelling down from Chiang Mai to Bangkok between the 10th- 17th August. I'll be travelling out of the cities to do the temple/sightseeing things probably from Chiang Mai itself, Sokhothai and Kanchanaburi. How easy is it to do day tours out of the city? For instance, I want to go to Si Satchanalai. Are there forms of public transport to get to places like this or do you have to hire guides and stuff? Thanks xx ...

Recommended bars, restaurants, massage and places to see in BKK

Posted by gypsy75 on 3/7/2009 at 19:05

Having just spent 3 weeks in Bangkok I had a lot of time to suss out the good places to eat and get a massage around Khao San Rd area. There are heaps of places on Khao San itself which are pretty decent but if you walk into the small alleyway (Trok Mayom)that runs parallel to the street (Khao San Palace side) there is a literal rabbit warren of charming and cute little places that aren't as rowdy and drunken as those on KS. My favourite was a restaurant called 'Smiths' which is located abou ...

HoueiSay to ChiangRai -transportation

Posted by StephanieM on 3/7/2009 at 21:49

Hello- We are scheduled to arrive from Pakbeng around 5pm (travelling on a Luangsay cruise) in HoueiSay on Sunday July 12. Our plane from ChiangRai to Bangkok is at 10pm the same day. The travel agent is booking us a private car (or taxi) from HoueiSay to ChiangRai for $86. Does it sound reasonnable or is it a rip off? We are 2 adults+2 toddlers+1 baby so the cheaper bus option is not applicable but maybe someone knows if it's easy/reliable to get a taxi directly from the immigration point an ...

Hi everyone I'm currently trying to arrange my second trip to Thailand for April next year and would like to pick a few expert brains if possible? Last year I did Bangkok, Phuket (Patong), Koh Samui (Chaweng), and Phi Phi...and although I absolutely LOVED it...I would like this year to try places a bit more 'off the beaten track'. I adore elephants so would love to go somewhere where you can meet the big guys/bathe them etc...without them having to do any kind of shows/tricks (I got ...
