Posted by nat_c on 15/7/2009 at 20:40

As i was moving between countries, I canceled my credit card so I can't book the hostel by Internet. sit difficult to get a place to stay in bkk in the middle of the night. 2. Posted by VickyWebb on 13/7/2009 at 16:16

Hi guys, I know there are many questions regarding weather at this time of year, however after looking through many forums I have been unable to find clear information regarding how much sunshine to expect. My boyfriend and I are landing in Malaysia and flying to Langkawi, then planning on focussing the start of our trip on Thailand's west coast islands like Ko Lipe, Ko Tarutao and Ko Phi Phi in last week of July and first 2 weeks of August. Upon reading many different pieces of advice abo ...

Best neighborhoods to stay in in Bangkok?

Posted by bellatrx on 13/7/2009 at 08:11

I am overwhelmed by the insane number of options for hotels in Bangkok, and am hoping to get some sound advice on neighborhoods to help narrow down the search a little. 1) I am looking for something that is most decidedly NOT Khao San Road. My priorities are access to transit (sky train?) and access to a walkable, no-nonsense neighborhood with delicious food/markets. It would be nice to be somewhere that is vibrant and active but something approximating a Thai neighborhood. Price range, prob ...

Department of silly laws

Posted by somtam2000 on 9/7/2009 at 21:21

And now for something from the utterly ridiculous department. The Nation reports today that tutorial schools and internet cafes will be closed for 2 weeks from July 13 until 28. This is in a bid to prevent the spreading of "influenza 2009". May I suggest respectfully that instead, they close parliament from July 13 until 28 to protect the rest of the country from more ridiculous rulings like this one. ...

2 Weeks in Thailand

Posted by fevoldj2 on 9/7/2009 at 07:54

I am going to Thailand between the 17th of July and the 2nd of August. I am only making a rough plan of the trip because I want to be very flexible. I just want to get good locations down. So far, this is the plan: 18th - 23rd: Chiang Mai. We want to go to Sappong to the Cave Lodge for two days, spend on day in Sankampaeng for the hot springs and then spend the remainder of our time in Chiang Mai. 24th - 29th: Krabi . Here we want to go from Krabi to Kho Phi Phi. I am unsure of other isla ...

Posted by xximaxx on 10/7/2009 at 03:34

Hiya, There's three of us heading to the Full moon party on the 4th of Sept this year and I was wondering if it would be silly not to pre-book somewhere?? Its the last week of our 4 week trip in Thailand so going for a bit of a party and relaxing week!! We're planning on heading to Koh Phangan on the 2nd of Sept or so and then staying for a few days. One of my friends says that there's no point booking a place and that it'll be fine!! (she's never been to Thailand though)! ...

1 month whistlestop tour of SE Asia - Possible?

Hi Firstly apologises for the long-ish message but I really want to get the most out of SE Asia. I'm a final year medical student and have a medical elective, which is basically where I can travel and experience medicine anywhere in the world. Due to last minute cancellations from my previous destination I was fortunate enough to organise an elective in Mae Sot in Thailand in a refugee camp, which starts in September. However I arrive in Thailand on August 3rd and plan to travel ...

strange/silly laws to be aware of

Posted by Macky on 8/7/2009 at 14:21

I've just bought a one way ticket to Bangkok. Not sure how long ill be in Thialand but I've never been there and I'd like to know if there are any strange laws or customs I should know about to avoid arrest/fines/embarrassment. I've read up on the site and I understand taking your shoes off before going indoors, not touching people on the head, and never turn your back on a buddha statue. Some of my buddies who are still in the navy mentioned something about spitting in public being illegal. ...

Tours \ Treks

Posted by fevoldj2 on 4/7/2009 at 05:55

I've been looking at various jungle treks and they seem to range in price between $250 - $500 for overnight stays. That seems like a lot of money if it is something that is possible to do alone. I have been thinking about going to Khao Sok NP. Is it possible to ride the elephants, go on the river, stay in the floating bungalows, etc and put the trip together piece by piece upon arrival? It would be nice to have freedom over having to stay with a tour group if this is possible and cheaper. Tha ...
