BKK,Nong Khai, Ayuthaya, and Kanchanaburi in October

Posted by LancasterLad on 31/8/2008 at 17:38

Hello. Any help with fine tuning the following would be appreciated. We'd like fairly good accommodation (up to 1,000 bahts a night), and places where a decent nights kip is a reasonable expectation. Arrive BKK on 15 October, and booked in to the Navalai River Resort in Banglamphu, for a couple of nights. Then taking the overnight sleeper train to Nong Khai. We've been to Nong Khai before and stayed at the Mutmee, but we'd like to try somewhere else. Any suggestions? We'll stay in No ...

College Student first time traveling to Thailand

Posted by kungltg on 20/3/2009 at 22:17

Hey all, I'm currently a college guy who is going to be studying abroad in South Korea starting next September. I wanted to fly out early into Thailand for 4-6 weeks and do a little island hopping. I'm looking at being there from sometime in the end of July until the last week in August. The plan is to fly from the US into Bangkok. Then again out of Bangkok to Seoul. The islands I am looking at visiting is Ko Tao, Ko Pha Nhan, Ko Samui, with substitutes or others possible also. So I ...

Travelling around Phimai Lao/Songkran?

Posted by DLuek on 21/3/2009 at 20:22

Hi, I'm heading into Laos on April 1 and am planning on getting to Luang Prabang around April 7. My dilemma is this: I want to spend at least 4 days in LP, and would like to be in either LP or Chiang Mai for the new year. I also have commitments in Chiang Mai starting April 21, so I have to get there by that date. Would it be best to leave LP by boat or bus on the 10 or 11th (flying is not really within my budget) and try to make it to Chiang Mai just in time for Songkran? Or, if I s ...

Chiang Dao - trekking, transport, etc

Posted by citizen on 19/3/2009 at 19:30

Hello all -- Thinking about heading up to Chiang Dao for a couple of days and doing a short trek. Has anyone got any experience of trekking out of there? E.g. I was looking at some of the guesthouses in Chiang Dao on here that offer treks - seem very expensive but has anyone used them? Is it possible to get up there and back in a long day from Chiang Mai - or would an overnight be better? What's the transport like there and back? (believe it's about an hour each way) Someone I wa ...

Bangkok's top 10 guesthouses for 2009

Posted by somtam2000 on 3/3/2009 at 07:18

We published this story yesterday, but I didn't have time to mention it here on the blog, so here it is! During a recent foray through Bangkok, we put together a list of what we think to be the top ten guesthouses/hostels in Bangkok for 2009. The list covers different budgets and we've tried to cover all the "main" districts in Bangkok -- it was a difficult list to boil down to ten -- that's why there's actually 12 places listed. Our final list is: 1) Sam Sen Sam Place 2) Shambara Bou ...

First time to Thailand

Posted by demoncleaner on 11/3/2009 at 06:38

Hello everyone, My girlfriend and I are planning an 8 week trip to Thailand, Laos and Cambodia. I have been doing some research/planning for it and I have found this site to be very helpful, though I still have several questions. 1) Many people/articles mention bartering. I have been about before, but was just wondering of the general tone/feel of it, and whether it is appropriate to barter over budget accommodations. Is it more like Latin America where the vendor will state a price and yo ...

Thailand VISA FEE Waiver Program and re-rentry extensions

Posted by Kostichka on 12/3/2009 at 03:33

Hi, I just got a 60 day tourist visa free of charge at a Thai consulate (outside) Thailand but valid only for single entry. I am a national of one of the countries that can get 14day visa upon arrival. The consul told me that I can get re-entry stamps (for a fee of course) in immigration offices. I will need two more entries (total of 3). I would like to know how long does the procedure take? Are there any restrictions on number on re-entries? Can I get multiple re-entry stamps simultaneousl ...
