Solo travel to Thai

Posted by Ossha on 24/4/2015 at 16:03

Heey everyone, Somewhere mid june I'm going alone to Thailand for I think 2 weeks. Route's probably gonna be Bangkok --> Ayutthaya --> Bangkok (for the plane) --> Chiang Mai (not sure yet) -->Lampang --> Phrae. Since I'm traveling solo I was curious if some people here got some similar plans as me and would like to meet up for a day or so. This is also my first time traveling alone, I'm a bit nervous about it, so any tips are welcome! Also been chatting and skyping for 2 mon ...

hi friends! I'll be traveling to Thailand for 3 months starting beginning of August to explore smaller beaches and small cities along the route. I have already travelled to bigger/famous beaches/cities in the recent years so I wish to avoid those. Any suggestions regarding places and accomodation , I shall appreciate. ...

Phimai, Phnum Rung and Preah Vihear

Posted by dg234 on 4/7/2015 at 16:16

Hi- My husband and I are interested in visiting the ruins in northeast Thailand including Phimai , Phnum Rung and Preah Vihear. There are also a number of smaller ruins in between these sites of interest to us. Our current plan is to travel from Bangkok to Phimai and stay a night or two. In Phimai we would like to hire a taxi to take us to Phnum Rung and the other ruins in the area and then drop us off a Surin where we will spend the night. The next day we would like to get a taxi in Surin that ...

Airport Rail Link for 8:45 am flight at BKK?

Posted by andrewesque on 30/6/2015 at 22:56

I am considering a Tiger Air flight to Singapore that leaves on a Friday at 8:45 am from Suvarnabhumi (which would save me a considerable amount of money). If I am staying near Victory Monument, is it realistic to take the Skytrain+Airport Rail Link to make it to the airport by 7:00 am, and then make my flight? I'm mostly concerned about two things: 1. The BTS Skytrain + Airport Rail Link timetables I looked up seem to indicate that if I caught the very first Skytrain and the Airport Rail Link ...

Preah Vihear

Posted by dg234 on 5/7/2015 at 15:37

I have read some conflicting accounts on the web regarding access to Preah Vihear from Thailand. (The posts in travelfish mostly refer to getting to the temple from Northern Cambodia.) Does anyone know the current status? I have seen one newspaper article, dated January 2015, that made it sound like there was an agreement to allow tourist (not Thai citizens) to visit the ruins from Thailand. Another post this year made it sounds like you can walk to a point where you can see the ruins from t ...

July-August- Koh Phangan+Andaman islands

Posted by Mor on 4/7/2015 at 15:45

Hi all, Planning to visit Koh Phangan for 3-4 weeks late July through mid Aug, mostly for yoga and meditation purposes, at the "Sanctuary" in Haad Tien. Anyone visited this yoga retreat and can give a review of the experience? Secondly, i would like to travel to the more southern Andaman islands such as Ko Adang, Ko Kradan, Ko Phayam, or the northeast Ko Kood , but i'm worried about bad weather on these locations. Should be around mid Aug-early Sep. Too deserted and rainy? Or still so ...

Help with visas?

Posted by Freyarose on 3/7/2015 at 08:57

Hello! I'm currently in Malaysia, heading to Thailand in about 10 days. I want to get a visa for as long as possible (I think that's 60 days with the possibility of applying for longer?) Do I have to have the visa before entering Thailand or is it possible to do it there/at immigration? I have extra passport photos and a photocopy prepared. I really appreciate any answers, thank you. ...

Current July Weather in South East Thailand?

Posted by Karl_the_scot on 2/7/2015 at 01:29

Hi Everyone, We were wondering if anyone is currently in South East Thailand or has visited in July and what the weather is normally like? We're currently in Bangkok with 3 weeks to spare and just discovered it's the start of wet season. The plan was to do a 3 week holiday in Thailand around the North and South, but we're now thinking about changing our plans to Indonesia. We actually spent 10 days on the Gili Islsnds and Bali which were both glorious and thinking about going back to Indonesia ...

Muay Thai

Posted by MADMAC on 26/6/2015 at 11:10

I finally went to train at Legacy gym in Ubon Ratchathani. This gym is the real deal, run by Ole Laursen, former world champion and also professional MMA fighter. His two assist, Lai and Noom, are very tough, demanding trainers with extensive Muay Thai experience as well. Professional fighters, Thai and foreigners, come here to train. He offers rooms - very simple, basic accommodation. It's located on the lake at Ubon. Lots of decent restaurants just outside the gym. He has motorcycles available ...

Suggestions to diversify our trip

Posted by rcatesby on 27/6/2015 at 22:50

October will be our first trip to Southeast Asia, long overdue. We are active and adventurous young retirees. Most of our previous travel has revolved around hiking in the U.S. We'll spend three plus weeks in Thailand, starting with three days in Bangkok, fly to Chiang Mai for five days, bus up to Chiang Rai for four days (bicycling in both places), fly to Ko Lanta for four days (sea kayaking, snorkeling, usual beach activities). Our current plans call for Ayutthaya next, three days t ...

3 week trip...thinking about completely skipping Bangkok. Mistake?

Posted by alexizfresh on 24/5/2015 at 07:37

I'll be in the area for 20 nights. I've never been to Asia at all. I'll be traveling with my wife. Were in our late 20s. We're thinking about skipping Bangkok. I keep hearing/ reading that it just madness. Although we both have lived in Big Cities our whole lives (miami, nyc, etc), I dont think were too excited about the madness. Were not really big shoppers and were also planning on going to Chiang Mai and Siam Reap so were going to get our fill of budhist temples. Is there any other reas ...

Paradise Lost how to make reservation

Posted by Olivcar on 24/6/2015 at 14:28

I have been calling the phone numbers listed for Paradise Lost on Ko Kraden but have not been able to get through. It seems to be open because I have seen reviews onTrip Advisor posted last month. One number says "Not in Service". The other one says no one is answering. I tried to contact reviewers on TripAdvisor but no one wrote back. Does anyone know how to make a reservation there? I even had someone call from Bangkok but no luck. Any suggestions? Is it closed for the rainy se ...

Wally of Paradise Lost, Ko Kradan - he will be missed

Posted by DLuek on 27/2/2015 at 21:31

I'm sad to report that Wally Sanger, the co-owner of Paradise Lost on Ko Kradan , died of natural causes this past Tuesday night. He was a special person with immense presence, and he made Ko Kradan special. I was lucky enough to see him on Kradan two weeks ago, and stayed with him this past November. There was nothing like sitting around a table with Wally and just soaking up his one-of-a-kind humor and wisdom that came from decades of sailing the world. I'll miss him dearly, and his long-time ...

Hello. I've been doing lots of research, trying to find out about catching buses from Krabi to Penang It seems like buses go via Hat Yai and take about 8 hours. I would like to know if its possible to catch a night bus and arrive in Penang in the early morning. Five months in SEA"¦ Help with itinerary please!

Posted by bwagner on 19/6/2015 at 04:28

This will be my first trip to southeast Asia, traveling for five months between November 2015 to March 2016. I'm a single woman, 40 years old. In general, I'm more interested in exploring and experiencing culture, food, language, people, environment than crossing off the 'must see' places on the list. I DO want to see some of the highlights of course, but even five months is not enough time and I don't want to rush from place to place sightseeing. My budget is $50 US /day including transportati ...

Booking hostel private rooms

Posted by andrewesque on 21/6/2015 at 14:47

I apologize in advance if this is a stupid question, but it has been a while since I've traveled abroad (or stayed in a hostel!) so apologies if so! I'm considering one of the deluxe private rooms at Saphaipae Hostel in Bangkok, for just myself, but the only options in the hostel reservation form are for 2 or 4 people (which automatically result in reservations for 1 or 2 rooms, respectively). My assumption is that this is because most people who are booking these rooms are probab ...
