Language issues

Posted by erinj on 19/11/2007 at 08:27

Last question: My travel agent said I won't need to know any Thai and I won't even need a phrase book. I haven't had enough time to try to learn Thai but I would at least like to *try*, at least the simple things like yes, no, please, thank you etc, so I will certainly be getting a phrase book. But, is language really not an issue? Will I be fine? Or should I crash study some Thai? Thanks :) ...

Heading from Cambodia to Thailand for beach time

Posted by mmyster on 9/12/2007 at 01:51

Hello there, My husband and I are planning a busy trip through Vietnam (2 weeks or so) and then about 4 days in Cambodia to see PP and SR. We would like to end our holiday with some relaxing beach time in Thailand. We are not sure if we should head to Koh Chang as we can access it overaland...or, if it is actually easier for us to fly out of SR to Bangkok and then on to whichever island we choose. Any suggestions? Roughly how long will it take to travel from SR to Koh Chang? We only have 5 ...

Backpacking, but where to go swimming? Are there public pools?

Posted by motogirl on 10/12/2007 at 18:17

Hi all. Just wondering how fellow travellers staying in basic guesthouses (not near the beach, eg bangkok, chiang mai etc) cool down? I've never really backpacked before. Stayed in a resort in bali, and when we went out for dinner some restaurants/bars had a public swimming pool for use. ...

Malaria tablets - Thailand and Cambodia

Posted by erinj on 19/11/2007 at 08:24

Destinations= Chiang Mai, Bangkok, Ao Nang, Phnom Penh, Angkor Wat/Siem Reap OKay My doctor said malaria tabs were not necessary, I insisted as we're going to stay on an Elephant Reserve near Chiang Mai and I don't want to take any chances. He said to start taking them 2 days before, and 1 week after returning. My partners doctor gave him malaria tabs and told him he will *definitely* need them in Cambodia and to continue taking them one month after returning. So.... who is right? ...

Krabi: recommendations

Posted by sopherie on 13/12/2007 at 22:47

Hi there, I just arrived in Krabi and am a bit overwhelmed by what to do and whether I should stay here or in another location (want to see some of the national parks, but also island hopping, kayaking, snorkelling, climbing and general beach laziness...) It seems very quiet and as i'm on my own would be great to be somewhere where I can meet other travellers, but not so much into meeting mad drunken ones (so i guess Phuket is out...?) also, accomodation here is great value and wondering i ...

We've just released the new edition of the Ko Phi Phi Travelfish Guide and it's available for purchase here. It's based on research undertaken on Ko Phi Phi in October and November of 2007 and as such it is far more up-to-date than your Lonely Planet, Rough Guide or whatever other legacy guidebook you have. We've added a couple more pages, expanded coverage of Phi Phi Leh and an extra 7,000 words of detailed travel intelligence. The price has creeped up to a whopping US$3.95 - that's a ...

InnoculationsinThailand

Posted by mattd on 13/12/2007 at 06:21

I am going to be spending two months between Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam starting next March. I have done some research about what sorts of shots and medical precautions I should take but I'm not sure my insurance will cover them, plus I am in Japan now and seeing a doctor can be confusing to say the least. Does anyone have any advice about specific precautions to take and whether or not it would be a reasonable idea to get stuck in Bangkok? I was thinking Hepatitis, Japanese Encaph ...
