Patpong Area Accomodation

Hi, Has anyone stayed in the Patpong area of Bangkok, & can they recommend accomodation - ($US30-60)for here for a single person. Also - I am not the partying type so have been told not to stay near Kho Sang Road, and it's been suggested by a few to say in the Patpong area. Hi..I am arriving Bangkok on 16th Dec late evening and will be spending 2 days in Bangkok then will be heading to Chiang Mai with a train (not sure train or bus is the best way).Tentatively thinking of stoping by Ayuttaya for a day (maybe) then see what else along the way to the north is worth seeing, if nothing much , then i will go strainght to Chiang Mai.I have 2 choices, planning to spend 3 days in Chiang Mai from 19th or 20th Dec then will take a bus to Pai.I have found a homestay at Pai (n ...

Pai or Soppong ?

I was in Pai the first time in feb. 2002, and again this year (nov 2007). i must say it changed alot. seems like they are upgrading this small town in the mountains to be an up-market destination. the hippie-flair is almost gone. so what to do ? i went 30mls farther to soppong / Pang Ma Pha and was surprised how unspoiled and neat this area is - amazing ! even good accommodation is available, i.e. Little Eden or T-Rex guesthouse. but i stranded at a place named Rim Doi, a cosy little resort r ...

hey all, I'm a 23 yearold Canadian guy straight out of University who's making his first trip to Thailand. I fly into Bangkok December 3rd, and have 5weeks to kill before I start a TEFL/TESOL course in Phuket. This site has provided tons of great information about backpacking and some of the locations to check out, I just have two questions that I would love some feedback on.....1) should I bring my laptop, or will it be more of a hassel then an asset....2)is there any travel insurance recommend ...
