Taxi from Mae Sai to Chiang Khong

Posted by DeborahInAsia on 11/2/2017 at 04:38

Hi Everyone, I have been unable to find any information about private taxi service in Mae Sai. My boyfriend and I will be crossing the border at Tachileik around midday on Feb 14th, and need to get to Chiang Khong / Huay Xai by that evening to catch a slow boat (already booked) at 8AM on Feb 15th. Ideally we would cross into Laos that evening but could do so early the next morning if necessary. I'd like to avoid having to take a bus to Chiang Rai first. It doesn't seem that there are Ma ...

Travelfish and Ko Kut in the New York Times

Posted by somtam2000 on 8/3/2017 at 16:57

Well, this qualifies as the kind of mention we love to wake up to! Travel writer Freda Moon went to Thailand for some dental work and ended up on one of our all time favourite Thai islands, Ko Kut. "On the recommendation of the indispensable Southeast Asia travel guide, Travelfish, I had made a reservation at Ngamkho Resort. A dozen or so bare-boned cabanas built of rough-hewed logs, bamboo mat-lined walls and a corrugated plastic roof, the family-run Ngamkho isn’t a resort in the typic ...

Nong Khai to Chiang Khan bus

Posted by 12388a on 28/2/2017 at 19:41

Took the bus from Nong Khai to Chiang Khan today. This journey is done in 3 parts. First caught an old but clean green bus at 7:30am from Nong Khai bus station to another bus station which I arrived at around 11:35 am along a scenic Mekong river. Then caught a large songthaw (large public taxi style car) to Ban Trad around 1.5 hours away which left around 11:50am. These 2 parts of the journey cost 120 baht for both. From Ban Trad cross to the other side of the road from where you were dro ...

Hello there, My girlfriend and I are planning a trip to Southeast Asia in August and I'd greatly appreciate some help concerning our plans north of Bangkok. Here are our parameters: -We have about three weeks, starting from Bangkok and ending with a flight from Chiang Mai to Hanoi. -Generally, we would like a relaxed pace of travel, but would love to hear what people think is realistic. -I am experienced traveller and we have a decent budget (mostly midrange hotels). -I am obsessed with f ...

Hat Lek - Cham Yeam Border Crossing Open?

Posted by mklema on 3/5/2015 at 08:20

Hello, In a few weeks I'm planning to cross into Koh Kong, Cambodia from Trat, Thailand via the Hat Lek - Cham Yeam Border Crossing. However, according to Google Maps the Thailand Border Crossing Checkpoint at Hat Lek is "permanently closed." (See map here). This seems strange to me and I can't find any information on the internet about the border crossing being closed. Has anyone crossed through this checkpoint recently? Any news about whether it's open or not? Thanks!!! ...

Ko Bulon accommodation

Posted by Bilbo1 on 14/2/2017 at 09:59

Hi, I’ll be heading to Bulon early March and was wondering ifanyone can recommend a good place to stay? I’m looking for something basic, clean and safe close to a nice beach for up to 1500 THB max with twin beds. I’ve already checked out Pansand Resort website but that starts at 1700 Baht. Also, would it be necessary to book ahead or is it safe enough for that time of year to just turn up as I’ve heard that tourism in Thailand is down this year? Cheers, Bilbo. ...

Getting from Si Satchanalai to Lampang

I don't know why I forgot to ask this question in the planning stage. I'm learning how, after all my travel experiences, Thailand manages to bewilder me. I need to travel tomorrow (Saturday)! ...
