Where to find an electric kettle in Koh Lanta?

Posted by Megancornelius on 12/3/2017 at 23:20

My partner and I are staying in Koh Lanta for 10 days. We found a great affordable room but we are looking to cook in our room to save $ on dining out. Any idea about where to find an electric tea kettle on the island? A handheld water boiler would work as well. We are in the south but could rent a scooter to get north if need be. ...

Family Travel Bangkok Airport Prices?

Posted by goodmclean on 14/4/2017 at 22:38

We are a family of 5 (Mum, Dad, 9, 7, 5) trying to get to Suvarnabhumi Airport on Monday. We are staying near Bang Chak BTS. I have calculated that if we take the BTS and then the airport train link it will cost us 100B each (kids are the same price as adults). Does anyone know if we can take a taxi for the same price or less? We are Backpackers, so we don't mind moving and carrying, but if we can cut out the hassle and do it for the same price, we will. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Tha ...

Renting motorbikes in Chiang Mai, police problems

Posted by lucasan on 18/3/2017 at 02:06

I stayed some 10 days in Chiang Mai in march 2017 and had a free motorbike form a friend that lives there. In town, along the moat and on the "Superhighway" there were several check points where the police stopped only thais with no helmet and all the farangs, regardless of if you have an helmet or not. Unlike in any other place in Thailand, Cambodia and Burma, where I spent almost four months, moped drivers with no international driving licence, like I was, are fined 400 Bahts for t ...

Thung Khai Canopy Walk near Trang - hard to get back to Trang

Posted by HeidiSmith on 8/4/2017 at 22:29

Based on the Travelfish notes on Trang and 'things to see', my husband and I and Thai god daughter (adult) independently visited the Thung Khai Arboretum using public transportation because the canopy walk seemed to be a lot of fun. It is a lovely park…so quiet…and the canopy walk is excellent. Free. The T Fish notes said that there are buses leaving the central bus station that pass right by the entrance (correct) and that you can catch a minibus or bus returning along this same road int ...

Advice on planning a Thai trip in August.

Posted by elysium on 27/3/2017 at 00:03

Hey guys, We are going to Thailand in August. Everyone keeps telling us that it's the worst time due to the rainy season. This is why I am planning like crazy and I need some help. So far, this is what's sure: we are flying to Bangkok and planning to stay for 3 days or so. Then probably we will fly to Phuket and stay there for 1 or 2 days and then head to Krabi to check out some of the beaches and islands (I'd really appreciate someone's opinion on which islands to visit and ho ...

Hi to all. We are five friends from Slovenia. We already made our way into the South and now we are planning to visit the North of Thailand for a week. We are going to spend 2 days in Chiang Mai and would like to get to know the city and get some info about the cultural aspects, temples, historical landmarks etc. We are thinking a cycling tour would be the best option as chiang Mai is quite flat. Any input on cycling tours in the area? What is the best? We are looking for something not expens ...

Khao Lak update 2017

Posted by lucasan on 18/3/2017 at 03:26

While waiting for an update on Travelfish, I post some news from Khao Lak, where I am staying since 10 days. I happen to have a thai friend here, a fashion photographer that moved from Bangkok with his family. Since a girlfriend of mine is visiting in about a week, I searched for accommodation for both of us. Price have gone up considerably, for example The Sandy House charges now, end of march, no peak season, 1200 Baht. No discount walk-in price and no long stay discount either. They have a mi ...

Chiang Rai to Tha Ton

Posted by lucasan on 18/3/2017 at 01:55

At the end of february there was no public boat service because of low water levels. You can still hire a boat for some 2500 Baht, max 4 passengers, some 6 hrs trip. If travelling alone you probably want to go by bus. I checked both bus stations in Chiang Rai and now there are only two minibus a day, leaving the old central bus station at 8 AM and 2 PM, and stopping 30 minutes later in the new bus station before leaving Chiang Rai The minivan takes you to Fang in about 3 hours, very nic ...

Taxi from Mae Sai to Chiang Khong

Hi Everyone, I have been unable to find any information about private taxi service in Mae Sai. My boyfriend and I will be crossing the border at Tachileik around midday on Feb 14th, and need to get to Chiang Khong / Huay Xai by that evening to catch a slow boat (already booked) at 8AM on Feb 15th. Ideally we would cross into Laos that evening but could do so early the next morning if necessary. I'd like to avoid having to take a bus to Chiang Rai first. It doesn't seem that there are Ma ...

Travelfish and Ko Kut in the New York Times

Well, this qualifies as the kind of mention we love to wake up to! Travel writer Freda Moon went to Thailand for some dental work and ended up on one of our all time favourite Thai islands, Ko Kut. "On the recommendation of the indispensable Southeast Asia travel guide, Travelfish, I had made a reservation at Ngamkho Resort. A dozen or so bare-boned cabanas built of rough-hewed logs, bamboo mat-lined walls and a corrugated plastic roof, the family-run Ngamkho isn’t a resort in the typic ...
