Visiting Doi Suthep in Chiang Mai area

Posted by Sknew on 31/1/2017 at 19:37

Hi all. I planned a day trip to see, finally, Doi Suthep. But the costs of transportation seem to vary widely depending on the source. I'd prefer to hire a taxi with A/C for half a day. I'd use this for Wat Buak Krok Luang, Wat Suan Dok, and then Wat Phra That Doi Suthep Ratchawarawihan (the main attraction). Where can I negotiate this deal, and what would be fair? I really dislike songtaews, they tend to give me headaches and take forever. Note I will start this trip from Lampang. Woul ...

Car ferry to Koh Yao Yai

Posted by MyThaiPhilip on 1/2/2017 at 07:16

Hi there, I want to bring a car to Koh Yao Yai. The car ferry information on the Yao Yai page is unfortunately out of date and no longer accurate. It is difficult in the extreme to get current information (phone numbers go unanswered, web searches turn up little, et cetera). I had a hotel owner there tell me there was a daily car ferry from Ao Nang (I assume she means the Nopparattara pier) but no one else seems to know about it and she could not provide further details. The car ferry servic ...

Ko Kradan or Ko Libong (or both?)

Posted by maristia on 9/3/2016 at 19:14

So, we're heading to Trang from Bangkok next week, and we've read great things about both island. However, we can't decide if we should go to both, or choose one, and which one for that matter. Do you think it's worth it to visit both, or are they too similar? Thanks! ...

Nana to airport via Makkasan: Is this cutting it too close?

Posted by NamManao on 31/1/2017 at 14:16

I've got a Thailand trip planned for March. On March 6 (a Monday morning), I would like to take the 7:10 a.m. flight to Krabi on Thai Smile from Suvarnabhumi Airport. I'll be leaving from the Nana area (Soi 11) and plan to take a cab the short 2 km distance from there to the Makkasan Station so I can take the air terminal train to the airport. Here's the thing though: I see that the first of those trains running in the morning leaves at 6:18 a.m. Information I find online says that the trai ...

Pai to Mae Hong Son Motorbike?

Posted by Thebutterfield on 23/1/2017 at 19:20

Hi all, I've read the related posts on taking a bus to Pai and from there renting a motorbike to get to Mae Hong Son and I am interested in doing this. However, the only issue is that I don't know if I can rent a motorcycle in Pai and then drop it off in Mae Hong Son so to take a bus on to Mae Sariang. Anyone have any tips? Thanks. ...

3 Days in Bangkok

Posted by GratefulGypsies on 19/1/2017 at 12:41

Hey TF community! We just finished a post that was a long time in the making - 3 Days in Bangkok. Would love some feedback from Bangkok experts or fellow travelers. We didn't really like the city so much on our first visit, but after coming back quite a few times it's become our favorite in Asia. With a good plan I think you can have an amazing few days here - far too many people skip over Bangkok just to catch a plane to an island. If you ask me, sitting on a beach is only fun for a day or two ...

SE Asia Vaccinations

Posted by mattocmd on 4/9/2007 at 22:57

Hello everyone, Great website! I just bought the Vietnam Central Highlands guide and I would recommend it to anyone. It seems like a great destination for those looking to get off the same traveled path. Anyway I have a question about vaccinations. My friend and I are flying to Bangkok on 10/8/07. We are going to Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Pai and Phuket. She is leaving from there and I am staying in SE Asia for about 3 more months. I will travel to Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam and maybe Myanma ...

Visa waiver re-entry via air?

Posted by mjb on 23/1/2017 at 10:26

New to this great site as planning a 'big' summer trip round Thailand, Vietnam and Singapore. I have read the Thai visa page but i think it's not explicit on this point:- I enter under tourist visa waiver (Brit passport holder) and tour for a couple weeks then fly to Vietnam for 2 weeks then Singapore for few days before flying back (from Singapore) to Thailand (Phuket) where I'll spend another approx 10 days before flying home from Bangkok. My question is: will a second visa waiver ent ...

Motorbike rental in Ubon Ratchathani

Posted by lucasan on 19/1/2017 at 00:21

Since we found Ubon a surprisingly nice place we decided to stay longer and visit the surrounding area. The hotel gave us a well done tourist map with many places not on any guide. She told us of a motorbike rental in town: Jay Jay Car and Motorcycles Hire, Nakhonban Rd corner to Sappasit Rd, it's on Google maps, 250 Baht a day or 1500 Baht a week. They claim to be open from 8 AM but we found it closed at 10.30 AM. The owner speaks good english and on the phone (+66 89 625 5823) she told us the ...

Nakhon Ratchasima (Khorat) bus station, buses to Phimai and Nang Rong

Posted by lucasan on 18/1/2017 at 23:49

We found the bus station in Khorat (Nakhon Ratchasima) somewhat confusing. Infact finding the platforms where buses to Phimai or to Nang Rong (Phanom Rung) leave can be hard because routes are written only in Thai... and no one spoke any english. To help other travelers the bus stop nr 12 is going to Nong Rang, departures every hour from 6 AM, after 12 noon buses are not so frequent. Trip takes about 2 hours and tickets (70 Baht) are sold before boarding from the man near the colum ...
