BANGKOK LOCALS: Where can I find myself a badass laser pointer?

Posted by comtam3000 on 18/6/2014 at 09:54

I'm talking about one of those sweet green laser pointers where you can see the entire beam. Ideally I could light a ciggy with it. That's not entirely necessary though. As long as I can see the beam. Any ideas? Panthip? MBK? That back alley behind _____? Cheers all. ...

Proof of onward travel on Air Asia?

Posted by JulietteR on 17/2/2012 at 01:06

Hi- i'm sure this has been asked somewhere else before on this forum - but can't find it! Does anyone know if Air Asia requires proof of onward travel before boarding a plane to Thailand? I'm flying from Saigon to Bangkok on the 29th and was wondering if I should buy another plane ticket out of Thailand to be safe. I know Thai immigration doesn't ask for it (was in Thailand last month) but I've heard some airlines require it, so I just want to make sure. Thanks! -Juliette ...

Planning trip to Thailand next August

Posted by Annie26 on 11/7/2014 at 03:52

Hi. What a fabulous blog this is - so much information. I am planning a surprise trip to Thailand for my partner's 50th birthday next August. I plan to go to Bangkok 3 nights, Chaing Mai 4 nights and Koi Samui 7 nights then back for a couple of nights in Bangkok. The weather worries me and now I don't know whether to go on his actual birthday in August or postpone the trip until November. The latter will have missed the point of the celebration I think but I wouldn't want to be drowned out for a ...

Khao Sok National Park

Posted by rocketgirl on 4/10/2007 at 21:08

Does anyone have any information about staying at Khao Sok National Park? I would ideally like to stay there for 2 days/3 nights in January 08, however I can't afford the tour prices, but still want to spend a night on a rafthouse on the lake. I've found some accommodation in the jungle, but I can't seem to find anything on the lake. Is there a way of booking this without resorting to a tour? Also how do you get from the jungle to the lake? I may end up having to resort to a tour though - if ...

Southern Bus terminal Bangkok

Posted by celianz on 12/2/2008 at 10:10

We recently caught a bus from the Southern bus terminal to Kanchanaburi and it has moved out of town, the station is brand spanking new. To get there we caught an ORANGE (not the blue and white) 511 public bus from the Democracy Monument and the bus ride took about 25/30 mins, costing close to 20 Baht each. The bus terminal was the last stop on the 511 route. When you get off the bus, climb the stairs over the walkway and this leads you to the terminal proper where you can buy your tickets. Heap ...

Facebook blocked in Thailand

Posted by somtam2000 on 28/5/2014 at 04:33

It appears the junta has blocked Facebook access in Thailand. It isn't clear at this stage if it is a temporary or longer term block, but if you're trying to communicate with someone in Thailand, email is perhaps a better idea. At this stage none of the other social services arrear to have been affected. Will update this as things develop. What a day. ...

Update information for Thailand

Posted by chiewn14 on 4/7/2014 at 12:46

Let's update on Thailand's situation... might help you more confident in Thailand like i do: Thailand is always ready to welcome tourists with a friendly smile. Visitors planning to visit the kingdom need not worry about the country being under the administration of the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) as that has had no impact on Thailand's tourism at all. Thailand remains a safe tourist destination, offering a wide variety of tourist attractions, ranging from unique culture, ...

Coup in Thailand, curfew and more

Posted by somtam2000 on 22/5/2014 at 06:45

At 16:00 Thursday 22 May The Thai military staged a coup in Thailand. They have explicitly stated that foreign travellers and foreign consulates and embassies will be protected. Importantly, in a subsequent announcement, they have declared a nationwide curfew from 22:00 to 05:00. If you have a early morning flight out of ANY airport in Thailand, this could be very problematic as international flights require check-in two hours beforehand and there are plenty of flights before 7am in Thailand. ...

The National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO), currently overseeingThailand's administration, has launched a raft of measures aimed at improving the experience of travellers and tourists visiting the kingdom, as well as showing its commitment in welcoming visitors. The NCPO announced last week that the taxi queues at Suvarnabhumi Airport are to be computerised in an effort to cut down on illicit control of cab operations. Ko Tarutao in July

Posted by garimagg on 24/6/2014 at 05:55

Hi, A friend and I are planning to visit the Tarutao National Park in July - our dates would be between 8th July and 15th July. I wanted to know if the park is open around this time - I am getting conflicting information online. In case the park is not open at this time, it would be great to get some recommendations on other places to visit, hopefully equally beautiful and unpopulated as Ko Tarutao. Also I wanted to check what the best way is to come from Singapore. Thanks, Garima ...
