Best places/activities to meet others when in your 30s and away from the party scene?

Posted by Dech on 10/5/2014 at 14:45

Hi there, I'm a 35 year old woman and I'm returning to Thailand on my first solo trip in July and while I'm looking forward to the freedom I'm worried I'll not meet others in my age bracket and that I'll just meet 20 somethings partying it up! I do like the odd drink but can't deal with the hangovers anymore, to my eternal sorrow, so won't be staying in the party hostels that people go to to socialise. How do others meet people away from this scene? Are there particular places or hostels that p ...

Phi Phi to Chiang Mai on Air Asia

Posted by simonesa on 18/5/2014 at 11:21

Hello, I am looking to make the jump from Ko Phi Phi to Chiang Mai on Air Asia's direct flight. I am currently being quoted $118 USD for two passengers, including checked bag fees and seat assignments. The flight departs at 1525 (3:25). Would we be cutting it close if we took the 10:30am ferry from Ko Phi Phi to Krabi and arrive at 12:00pm? I have read that the airport is about 20 minutes away from the pier. In my mind that seems like enough time, even if there is a delay with the ferry, ...

<2500 THB Beach Bungalows on Ko Tao, Phagnam or Samui?

Posted by reedbj on 6/5/2014 at 19:12

Hello! My soon-to-be wife and I will be honeymooning in Thailand and will be staying for part of the trip (7/29 - 8/3) around Ko Samui. We wanted to spend around 3 nights in a somewhat secluded beach bungalow, preferably under 2500THB a night. The sort of place where we can step out onto the porch and have a view of the ocean and beach. We don't necessarily care about AC or hot showers or anything like that. We're happy to rent a car or motorcycle to get somewhere, as well. Any recommendations ...

Hi guys, I really confused by the change in Visa requirements in Thailand. I am due into Bangkok on the 6th of August - I will be entering/leaving the country to go to Malaysia and Burma. My departing flight from BKK is the 2nd of September. I already have 4 stamps for BKK in the past year from other trips. Will I be ok with getting a tourist visa each time I re-enter the country or do I need a different one?? Not sure what the changes mean for me... ...

Thanks so much to those who've been so kind with their helpful replies. I have another question... I fly in and out of Bangkok and have got used to the idea that when I arrive I will spend a few days there before crossing over into Cambodia. I will revisit Thailand at the end of my trip for 2 or so weeks but wondered where you'd recommend I shoul ...

Prime Minister Yingluck removed from power in Thailand

Posted by DLuek on 7/5/2014 at 03:24

The Constitutional Court ruled today that PM Yingluck abused her power (some details here) and is removed from her post. Several of her most powerful cabinet members have also been booted. Not clear yet if the next PM will be appointed (not even clear who has the authority to do this as the whole govt is in shambles) or if they'll be one of the remaining members of what was Yingluck's cabinet. Either way, it's easy to feel the power vacuum already tugging. This is a major development that could ...

Motorcycle Tour - opinions wanted

Posted by MADMAC on 8/5/2014 at 23:56

I am considering starting a little motorcycle touring company out here, doing the Mekong route from Mukdahan north and from Mukdahan South. Since I know these roads well, like to ride, and speak Thai well enough to get around, I am thinking it could make a little money and be fun at the same time. I am thinking two bikes (I don't want a big group) and doing relatively short legs of an hour or two driving every day and then letting the customers ride around or walkk around the area at each stop ...

6 weeks in Thailand: seeking advice

Posted by esseestpercipi on 5/5/2014 at 12:04

Hi everyone! Just booked my ticket: I am traveling to Thailand with my girlfriend, arriving in BKK on the 28th of August and leaving on the 14th of October. We have been invited to a wedding in Koh Samui on the 5th of September, so we plan to stay a few days in BKK and travel to Koh Samui for the event before exploring the rest of the country. As we will be coinciding with the end of the wet season, our idea (as suggested in a previous post) is to travel northwards from Koh Samui. This is as f ...

Langkawi to Ko Sukorn

Posted by chopster on 3/5/2014 at 02:03

Not sure if this should go on the Malaysia or Thailand forums so I'll start by trying Thailand... We're a family of 4, wishing to travel from Langkawi to Ko Sukorn in December, and trying to work out the best, most stress-free route to follow. The place we're staying on Ko Sukorn can organise a (very expensive) transfer from Pak Bara Pier, but I can't work out whether there are boats that travel to Pak Bara from Langkawi. Are there any public boats going from Pak Bara to Ko Sukorn? I kn ...

Going south JUST for dive cert. Advice?

Posted by Maran on 8/4/2014 at 07:03

I'm flying from Auckland to Singapore on May 31 and sleeping at the airport before flying to Bangkok in the morning of June 1. Kind of wish I booked to fly from singapore to krabi now instead of bk because I really want my diving certificate before travelling north and doing the loop around Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia. I've always wanted to dive so would want to be able to do so in nam or Cambodia should the opportunity arise. But ko Tao is cheapest I hear and sounds like a good vibe so I am thin ...
