Where to spend Christmas in Southern Thailand?

Posted by chris9393 on 23/9/2014 at 06:15

Would anyone recommend the best places to stay around christmas time in Southern Thailand? I'm going to be travelling solo and will be in the southern islands in time for the Full Moon party at Koh Phangan. I'm wondering if it's best to just head to Koh Phangan around December 20th and spend christmas and new year there. I have already got my accommodation booked for new years eve in Koh Phanghan as I have heard ever where gets booked up but is this the same for christmas day etc? Thanks ...

Update desired! Effects of martial law/curfew/traveler experiences?

Posted by jlawler on 28/9/2014 at 16:39

Hello! My partner and I are heading to Cambodia in just over a week and are planning to spend about three weeks in the middle of our trip in Thailand. I'm curious about the social climate in the country these days... Is there still a curfew imposed? Has travel been noticeably affected? Anyone have any safety concerns or tips to share? We are not planning on staying in Bangkok or Chang Mai - likely we will fly into Bangkok and head straight for a bus to Issan. Our time will be spent in that pr ...

From the "This is so stupid I couldn't make this up" file, Thailand comes up with the idea of wristbands for tourists -- and perhaps even electronic tracking. For their safety of course. The story is so full of stupid I don't know where to start. ...

First time in Thailand (Bangkok, Chiang Mai, ??)

Posted by aaaazzzz on 28/9/2014 at 23:48

Hello, I'll be visiting Thailand by myself for the first time from Dec 1-10. At the top of my to-do list is good food. I'm not into sight seeing at all. Given the fact that I only have about 8 days (taking travel time into consideration), initially I thought of only going to Chiang Mai and Bangkok but the more I read about the wonderful beaches in the south, the more I feel like visiting one. I'm not looking for crazy parties or big crowds (I live in NYC so I get enough of that here) but sin ...

Three Pagoda Pass, Khao Laem and Srinakharin

Posted by Max2010 on 22/9/2014 at 08:50

I have travelled extensively in Thailand but never done much in the Western fringes. I have been to Mae Sot and Tak and Nam Tok. This December I will have access to a car and was thinking of doing some fishing at Srinakharin but was now thinking of Khao Laem and including Three Pagoda Pass as it has always been somewhere I wanted to go. How long does it take to drive from Kanchanaburi as the road on the map looks like it might be challenging and at the end of the day will it be worth it. H ...

(Weather) Situation in Chiang Mai/Northern Thailand

Posted by Didado on 22/9/2014 at 18:56

Hey guys, I'm going on my first trip to Thailand (three weeks, arriving on Thursday) with a friend and am very excited - this site has proven to be a terrific source for information and quite useful for planning so far. However, I'm not so sure about our initial plans of going to Chiang Mai and travelling around there for a bit (from Sunday or Monday on - for a week or so) anymore since according to recent news, it seems to be quite chaotic around there because of the monsoon, floodings etc.. ...

2 weeks in Thailand...

Posted by Krishano912 on 15/6/2014 at 08:59

I'm looking to book a flight to Thailand for the end of November. Will be landing in Bangkok and plan to spend a night there before heading to the coast for some beach and partying. I also want to take in some culture so would be grateful if anyone could recommend three places that could fulfil my wants? Ideally alternating between taking in culture/land activities one day and a lazy beach day the next and partying at night. (Not a massive party animal these days but would like to experience eve ...

Flooding in parts of Northern / Central Thailand

Posted by DLuek on 6/9/2014 at 22:07

It's that time of the year again! Bangkok Post reporting here that the Yom River and some other waterways are overflowing and causing some fairly serious flooding in parts of Central and Northern Thailand. The photo at the top of the article was taken in the district just north of Sukhothai town and historical park, so motorbiking to Si Satchanalai might not be the best idea right now. However I just spoke with a staff member from Lotus Village, an excellent guesthouse in Sukhothai, and she ...

December 8 nights in and out of Krabi, with 3 kids. Plan?

Hi! We are arriving from Bangkok on a Sunday night around 1930 and departing Monday afternoon to Chiang Mai. We are on a pretty tight budget and I'm trying to plan our time wisely during the most expensive time of the year. I am open to any ideas, Thanks. We are an extremely active family my kids physical stamina isn't an issue (12, 13, 14). Should we stay in nice accommodations thus limiting our activity spending or stay in Krabi Town and spend our funds on activities? Tentative idea: 3 Ni ...

I'm currently researching for my SE Asia trip next year. Reading through the Lonely Planet SE Asia on a shoestring book and I'm liking the idea of getting involved in a homestay within each country just so I can fully immerse myself in the culture. The first homestay recommendation I have come across in the book is no more I've had a Google but am reluctant to go with anything that I've not had recommended. So if anyone can recommend any homestay throughout SE Asia let me know. Thanks in adva ...
