Buying and donating a bicycle in Nakhon Phanom

Posted by stekmer on 19/1/2015 at 02:30

I'm due in Nakhon Phaom in a couple of weeks time (my 4th trip) and have decided to buy a second hand bicycle (hopefully) rather than settle for one of the ancient offerings from LA Cycles or using a communal one from my Hotel. Assuming I find one worth buying, I am hoping to be able to sell it at the end of my weeks stay but accept that this may be difficult. My second choice was to donate it to a worthy cause or recipient. Can anyone advise on any charitable organizations that may accept a b ...

Ko Chang - Lonely Beach to Bailan Bay

Posted by kipcasper on 20/1/2015 at 01:49

Hi, I've been to Thailand a few times, including Ko Chang, but never been to Bailan Bay. I usually stay on Lonely Beach but haven't ventured further up the road. I'm looking at being on Ko Chang during Songkran this year and I'm thinking of staying in Bailan Bay but would still like the nightlife of Lonely Beach. Could anyone tell me the distance between the two and if it is easily walkable, especially during nighttime? Cheers, Kip ...

First Time Solo Trip To Thailand Itinerary

Posted by adventurebil on 25/12/2014 at 19:33

I'm new to the forum. A Londoner living in NYC. I love to travel but have mostly travelled with friends and have always wanted to do a trip on my own so I just booked my first solo trip to Thailand (19days) & Tokyo (6days). I'm also using this as a test to see if I want to leave what I'm doing to explore longer term travel (1yr+) so excited to get 2015 going! After reading through the forum archives & research, I've worked out the below but I would love your expert opinion and recommend ...

Thailand for a 3rd time visiting. Where to go?

Posted by dangerzone15 on 9/1/2015 at 17:27

So I'll be going to Thailand for a month before going to Australia this February and just looking for some suggestions on places to go. I've been twice already to Thailand which is making my choice more difficult. I've been to BKK, Ao Nang, Phi Phi, Phuket, Chiang Mai (twice) and Pai (although it rained constantly when I was there). I'm 24 and do like a drink but I've decided that I'd rather not drink too much on this trip as it destroys my budget. I actually would like to be going to the g ...

Anyone have a 3-4 Day Beach Suggestion from Bangkok?

Posted by suetravels on 8/1/2015 at 05:52

I am heading to Bangkok in February and have three/four days to seek out a beach. I would like to sit on the beach for a few hours and enjoy the view (happy to do beach activities as well - dive/snorkel - or just read), eat some good food, grab a massage (if available), and relax. Goal is to relax. There are no kids, just adults. Would you recommend: Hua Hin, Ko Samet , or fly south to Krabi or any other places you would suggest (Ko Samui, etc)? Travel Time: - Day 1 - Arrive in BKK ...

Anyone living in Krabi or around for a while?

Posted by Natashakrabi on 13/1/2015 at 02:22

Hi I moved to Krabi around 3 months ago, teaching English at ChokChai in Nuakhlong, its 5 minutes from the airport. Krabi is a great place but recently I have been feeling quite bored and alone, I'm originally from London 23 years old, it is different from the City and I really enjoying meeting new people and doing new things. If any one feels the same or wants to ever hang out in Krabi Town or around, let me know. Natasha ...

Direct bus Chiang Rai to Luang Namtha via new bridge-any updates?

Posted by boleslav on 3/10/2013 at 16:34

I just found out this information on the hobo's web site and would like to know if anyone has any update on when/if this direct bus from Chiang Rai to Luang Namtha starts running? thank you - A new bridge over the Mekong about 10 km south of the current immigration checkpoints is finished and scheduled to open later in 2013. It's far outside of the towns on both sides and will provide options to cross the border and completely avoid Chiang Khong and Huay Xay. A direct bus from Chiang Rai t ...

Chiang Mai second half of March

Posted by simao on 13/1/2015 at 14:37

Hi, I am planning a trip to Thailand in March. We wanted to see a less touristy city, so thought maybe Chiang Mai could be a good place to see, maybe take some cooking lessons and just see something different before heading to the beaches in the south. I've read about this haze from the burning of farmer fields and I read we should not go to Chiang Mai during this time. Is this haze so bad that a trip to chiang mai during this time is definitely not recommended? Thanks ...

Sak Yant Tattoo

Posted by lostintime on 10/11/2013 at 09:19

Hey guys, Wondering if anyone has any experience with Sak Yant tattoos? I have been travelling extensively around Asia for the last 4 years whenever I have had a spare moment but strangely never gotten a tattoo in Thailand even though it's always been highly appealing. I know 'Wat Bang Phra' is the most famous for Sak Yant tattoo's, my random question, does this tattoo have to be on your back/arm? I know the monk should pick your tattoo and place it which is extremely interesting. But due to ...

Khon Kaen to Chiang Mai

Posted by DicoR on 5/1/2015 at 07:47

Hi there, I need to get from Khon Kaen to Chiang Mai. I know there are overnight busses from KK to CM. This is going to be one hell of a ride for sure, I'm guessing somewhere around 14 hours... Does any of you know whether there are other things to do on this route? Would be great to split this trip into pieces since I've got plenty of time. Thanks! ...

Solo Female Traveller- need advice on where to safely go

Posted by itsmoekoh on 1/1/2015 at 18:06

Hello! I'm heading to Miri, Malaysia for a week mid April to visit my dad. After that I have two weeks open to travel before I meet up with my boyfriend in Singapore. I'm trying to figure out where to go in that time while I'm traveling on my own. I've heard that South East Asia is pretty safe in general for traveling solo as long as you use common sense and exercise caution. I'd just love some advice from female travellers who have ideas on where to go. Really any advice in general is app ...

Bringing medication to Thailand

Posted by BuzzmFrog84 on 8/12/2014 at 15:45

So before I really look into what I need to bring, I have to figure out the deal with bringing meds to the country. I've looked at the FDA's website and it says that with certain medications (especially one I take for anxiety,) you can't bring anything that's prescribed for more than 30 days. Does anyone have any experience with this? What if you plan on going for over a month? Thanks. ...

Chiang Rai- worth the stop, cheap guesthouses and amazing food

Posted by nattbm on 24/12/2014 at 19:01

I stoped in Chiang Mai but i wss avoiding crowded places so i went straight to chiang rai which is much smaller. Got to a small and very nice guesthouse called Ban Lotus by recommendation, cause you cannot find it over the net or guide books. Is run by an elder lady who is a sweet heart, very welcoming, will make you feel like home. Is located in a small guesthouse area near the provincial police station at the end of santirach road, 15 min walk from bus station or 60 THB tuk tuk. The main roa ...

Ko Bu Bu a winner

Posted by tezza on 16/12/2014 at 15:19

Every traveler is looking for a small tropical island with a nice beach only one resort. Even better if it is one BUDGET resort. Better again if there are no villages, roads or other development. Ko Bu Bu between Ko Lanta and the mainland can do this. I found it one of the most relaxing and inexpensive islands I've stayed on in recent years. Lovely family running the joint too. Rather than fill up space here where it will slip down the board and become ignored I've done a USER REVIEW with more ...

Calm down Fido or I willl go get my stock whip

Posted by tezza on 18/12/2014 at 03:23

Two weeks ago I decided I'd make my 4th visit to Ko Jum. The best sand/water is towards the south of Andaman Beach, an area I've never stayed before, so I decided to book into NEW RESORT - one of the 2 original Jum bungalow joints and tending towards the lower traveler end of the budget. It read up real well here on travelfish but my experience was somewhat different. I'm suggesting you don't stay at this place if you don't like being harassed by resort dogs, followed by being told it is all you ...
