Thailand in November...Koh lanta/ koh lipe or koh chang?

Posted by Chad2709 on 10/10/2014 at 05:05

Hi there.... My husband and I will be travelling to Thailand from the 4th November for a week, and can't decide which island to visit? We only want to go to one and have nice beaches, snorkelling and maybe some hiking to see natural sights. Not into noisy night life! Want somewhere reasonably easy to travel to from Bangkok and not too touristy. We were also wanting to find self catering there any? All seem to be resorts including breakfast and need to eat out every night? ...

Which Beach - Bang Saen - Koh Samet or Hua Hin?

Posted by altmtl on 13/10/2014 at 18:38

I've looked at the descriptions here on TF & checked out a few reviews on TA. But the question remains... Which one? I've been to Cha am. (about 5 years ago) I thought it was OK, but not on the weekend. Looking for a nice affordable beach for 3-4 days during the week near BK Koh Samet seems to have the nicest beaches, but food a guesthouses seem pricey Bang Saen appears affordable with cheap food but a lousy beach Hua Hin seems a bit pricey too, but has good food options & the beach s ...

Sleep Sheet-Is It Necessary?

Posted by jcro on 30/9/2014 at 12:08

Hello! I was reading some feedback on several posts regarding bringing some sort of sleep sheet to Thailand and am still not sure one way or the other. We are going to be backpacking for about a month starting in early November so I wanted to know if I need to add a sleep liner to my "must pack" list. Thanks for any input! J ...

Anti-depressants in Thailand?

Posted by roro1990 on 11/10/2014 at 10:54

Hi, I'm coming to Thailand soon with a stopover in Dubai and I can't bring my SSRI's with me as I lost the prescription (and a quick bit of research tells me bringing medication without a prescription into UAE is a terrible idea). Just wondering does anyone here know if they are readily available to buy over the counter in BKK? I take Zoloft. And if it's possible to buy OTC, which pharmacy is good? ...

TC's now 153 baht instead of 33 to exchange...

Posted by altmtl on 12/10/2014 at 22:49

I guess I was out of the loop, but the fee for changing TC's in Thailand is now 153 baht instead of 33 since March '14 - WTF! Not that many people use them any more, but now just going to an ATM makes more sense as most branches charge - 150 - 180 baht on a max withdrawal which is usually 20,000. SuperRich & Vasu are good options if you have cash, but otherwise... ...

Hi guys, Just came across the forum a couple of days ago and some really good information on here. Myself and by boyfriend are headed to Bangkok from Brussels - arriving Sunday morning the 19th. We are nature lovers who love adventure and not really up for the touristy spots. We never the less plan to spend 2 or 3 nights in Bangkok but afterwards we're not sure. There's so much to see! We'd like to split things between trekking and spending some times in either the lake or the sea. We would ha ...

Hey fellow travelers! Just arrived in Chiang Mai today. First impressions are I will love this place. Left Bangkok on the sleeper train which was a pleasant journey aswell. We are just finding out feet as we have never been backpacking before. We found out the hard way in Bangkok being naive and over charged for stuff (1000thb for boat) which is only 40thb !! Took us a couple of days to get wise. In hoping to avoid this in Chiang Mai and wonder if you have any tips on saving money how much sho ...

Hey, I'm trying to make this trip the best trip that I'll ever take in my life because I have no idea when I'll have both the time and money to do something like this again. I'm looking for adventure and an immersive cultural experience. I don't to spend all my time on touristy beaches. I want to explore the natural landscape, pristine waters, and visit national parks. I'm also not the type of person that will have a very specific, down-to-the-day itinerary; I'll be staying in places until I fe ...
