Posted by FarangFrank on 28/6/2014 at 01:53

Hi there, I hope someone knows the answer to this question: I intend to travel by night train from Surathani to Bangkok. As I am living in Phuket , I will have to take a bus to Surathani first. In Phuket I cannot buy a train ticket or make a train reservation. Is it possible to just turn up at the train station in Surathani and buy a ticket for the sleeper on the day of departure? Am am asking because on some websites it says that you need to make reservations in advance, however, the wordin ...

The National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO), currently overseeingThailand's administration, has launched a raft of measures aimed at improving the experience of travellers and tourists visiting the kingdom, as well as showing its commitment in welcoming visitors. The NCPO announced last week that the taxi queues at Suvarnabhumi Airport are to be computerised in an effort to cut down on illicit control of cab operations. Under the new computerised system, the passenger queues will be m ...

Ko Tarutao in July

Posted by garimagg on 24/6/2014 at 05:55

Hi, A friend and I are planning to visit the Tarutao National Park in July - our dates would be between 8th July and 15th July. I wanted to know if the park is open around this time - I am getting conflicting information online. In case the park is not open at this time, it would be great to get some recommendations on other places to visit, hopefully equally beautiful and unpopulated as Ko Tarutao. Also I wanted to check what the best way is to come from Singapore. Thanks, Garima ...

I am starting work for an NGO in Hanoi July 7th and have decided to come to Bangkok 2 weeks beforehand. First of all I would really appreciate it if I could get some advice on accommodation. I am looking to stay around the Khao San road district, not necessarily on the road but within a walking distance of it anyway. I am looking for a private room that is under 600 baht, preferably in a Hostel ...

This story may have more political details in it than of interest to your typical traveller, but have a look at the photos! If you're heading to this crossing perhaps reconsider or expect delays (though it's possible tourists are not being affected -- if you've crossed in the past day or two, please let us know...) http://asiancorrespondent.com/123792/over-70000-cambodians-leave-thailand-why/ ...

Can anyone recommend any "real" backpacker beaches/places to stay in Thailand?

Posted by Madrileno on 12/6/2014 at 06:01

I am going to Thailand for the first time for July/August. My plan is Bangkok > Surat Thani > Ko Pha Ngang > Krabi > West Coast Islands > Chang Mai and North > Bangkok I'd like to try and stay in places that have a relaxed backpacker atmosphere, where I can access some of the local culture, yet still relatively lively and sociable. I am mainly interested in, eating local food; snorkelling; jungle trekking; watching nature. Does anyone know any beaches like this in the pl ...

THINGS TO DO AROUND CHIANG MAI

Posted by charlottem92 on 20/5/2014 at 11:22

Hi there I visited Chiang Mai for more than a week last summer and didn't really 'feel' this place. It was one of those places people just couldn't stop praising. It quickly became the one place I couldn't wait to explore during my trip around Thailand. Things turned out a little different and I can't help but wrinkle my nose now at the mere thought of Chiang Mai. I'm returning to SEA this summer and I can't persuade my travelbuddy to skip Chiang Mai. So, does anyone have any suggestions on ...

What\'s Travelling Alone in Low Season Like?

Posted by Madrileno on 6/6/2014 at 09:45

Hi there, I am thinking of travelling alone in Thailand in July for about 8 weeks. I know this is low-season, which is cheaper and quieter, but are there still many other people travelling? Is it still just as easy to meet other travellers in low season if you're travelling alone? Are some of the smaller, remote islands still accessible and do tours/excursions still run in low-season? Is there still a fairly lively backpacker scene? Thanks for your answers! *The \ in the title appeared aut ...

Best Islands for Snorkeling

Posted by Surefolly on 15/5/2014 at 14:33

I'm planning a 3 week trip for my family to Thailand - approximately Feb. 6 - 27. My wife and I went to Koh Tao in 2003 and LOVED it - hands down the best snorkeling experience we've ever had. This trip we are bringing our boys (ages 11 and 8 at time of travel) and are thinking about going back to KohTao, but are also interesting and seeing some islands we've not been to before. What other islands in Thailand compare to Koh Tao when it comes to snorkeling? We've heard good things about Koh Ku ...
