Prime Minister Yingluck removed from power in Thailand

Posted by DLuek on 7/5/2014 at 03:24

The Constitutional Court ruled today that PM Yingluck abused her power (some details here) and is removed from her post. Several of her most powerful cabinet members have also been booted. Not clear yet if the next PM will be appointed (not even clear who has the authority to do this as the whole govt is in shambles) or if they'll be one of the remaining members of what was Yingluck's cabinet. Either way, it's easy to feel the power vacuum already tugging. This is a major development that could ...

Motorcycle Tour - opinions wanted

Posted by MADMAC on 8/5/2014 at 23:56

I am considering starting a little motorcycle touring company out here, doing the Mekong route from Mukdahan north and from Mukdahan South. Since I know these roads well, like to ride, and speak Thai well enough to get around, I am thinking it could make a little money and be fun at the same time. I am thinking two bikes (I don't want a big group) and doing relatively short legs of an hour or two driving every day and then letting the customers ride around or walkk around the area at each stop ...

6 weeks in Thailand: seeking advice

Posted by esseestpercipi on 5/5/2014 at 12:04

Hi everyone! Just booked my ticket: I am traveling to Thailand with my girlfriend, arriving in BKK on the 28th of August and leaving on the 14th of October. We have been invited to a wedding in Koh Samui on the 5th of September, so we plan to stay a few days in BKK and travel to Koh Samui for the event before exploring the rest of the country. As we will be coinciding with the end of the wet season, our idea (as suggested in a previous post) is to travel northwards from Koh Samui. This is as f ...

Langkawi to Ko Sukorn

Posted by chopster on 3/5/2014 at 02:03

Not sure if this should go on the Malaysia or Thailand forums so I'll start by trying Thailand... We're a family of 4, wishing to travel from Langkawi to Ko Sukorn in December, and trying to work out the best, most stress-free route to follow. The place we're staying on Ko Sukorn can organise a (very expensive) transfer from Pak Bara Pier, but I can't work out whether there are boats that travel to Pak Bara from Langkawi. Are there any public boats going from Pak Bara to Ko Sukorn? I kn ...

Going south JUST for dive cert. Advice?

Posted by Maran on 8/4/2014 at 07:03

I'm flying from Auckland to Singapore on May 31 and sleeping at the airport before flying to Bangkok in the morning of June 1. Kind of wish I booked to fly from singapore to krabi now instead of bk because I really want my diving certificate before travelling north and doing the loop around Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia. I've always wanted to dive so would want to be able to do so in nam or Cambodia should the opportunity arise. But ko Tao is cheapest I hear and sounds like a good vibe so I am thin ...

Help with initial itinerary

Posted by foxiebex on 30/4/2014 at 10:08

Hi, I am trying to put together an itinerary for a month in Thailand. I have travelled a little in Thailand before but this will be my first time solo. I have put together a rough idea of what I would like to do but it's just not quite coming together. The first part of the trip is governed by two factors. I am meeting with a friend on Phi Phi and or Krabi on around the 14th December and I would like to be at the Full Moon party on Ko Pha-ngan on Christmas day (insert full moon comments here!) ...

Border crossing bus/train ticket online reservation

Posted by lillalla on 16/4/2014 at 05:58

Hi! Does anyone know where I could reserve or buy a cheap ticket crossing (any) border out of Thailand and back (any form of transport)? I need to get a double-entry visa (I'm a Croatian citizen so I need a visa), and the embassy insists that I show some proof of leaving Thailand and coming back so they can issue the double-entry visa. I don't need to actually end up using these tickets, so the cheaper the better. Flights are of course an option, but I'd have to spend at least 60 eur, and I'd r ...

Bedbugs! Need urgent advice!

Posted by karibou on 5/3/2014 at 10:59

Checked into a (Travelfish recommended) guesthouse in Khao Sok today, and after I turned out the lights I discovered i was being attacked by a large number of bedbugs. I'm a middle-aged woman traveling alone for the first time in Asia and had never encountered them before. Told the owner (late at night) who verified the problem and had me pack up and move to another room. I have no faith that when I turn off the lights again, a new swarm of bedbugs won't come out over here. So I will probably st ...

How to find a hostel?

Posted by travelbug777777 on 21/4/2014 at 14:39

I'm going to Thailand for around 5 weeks. I know the islands and places I am planning to visit, but I want to wing it with timing, so I'm not booking any accommodations in advance. I was wondering what the best way is to find accommodations. Do you just ask a taxi to take you to the nearest hostel? I'm thinking of having three or four possibilities. But even then do I just ask a taxi to take me to one of them? ...
