Poipet border crossing

Posted by sambrown on 15/6/2014 at 01:16

This story may have more political details in it than of interest to your typical traveller, but have a look at the photos! If you're heading to this crossing perhaps reconsider or expect delays (though it's possible tourists are not being affected -- if you've crossed in the past day or two, please let us know...) ...

kophangan east cost-some beaches discussion and advice..

Posted by shox on 12/6/2014 at 11:48

hi,we plan 2 weeks in kophangan beaches in july(some days after the full moon party), the information isnt so updated about the east cost, we are not looking for luxury hotel at all, even nice bungalow on the beach is nice, we look for some night life- not full moon party but still some night life because we plan on staying 2 weeks, white sand beaches where we can also swim and not just shallow water, and clear water (not the greeny sea color) and calm sea, and if possible not to pay much when w ...

Can anyone recommend any "real" backpacker beaches/places to stay in Thailand?

Posted by Madrileno on 12/6/2014 at 06:01

I am going to Thailand for the first time for July/August. My plan is Bangkok > Surat Thani > Ko Pha Ngang > Krabi > West Coast Islands > Chang Mai and North > Bangkok I'd like to try and stay in places that have a relaxed backpacker atmosphere, where I can access some of the local culture, yet still relatively lively and sociable. I am mainly interested in, eating local food; snorkelling; jungle trekking; watching nature. Does anyone know any beaches like this in the pl ...

Hi there I visited Chiang Mai for more than a week last summer and didn't really 'feel' this place. It was one of those places people just couldn't stop praising. It quickly became the one place I couldn't wait to explore during my trip around Thailand. Things turned out a little different and I can't help but wrinkle my nose now at the mere thought of Chiang Mai. I'm returning to SEA this summer and I can't persuade my travelbuddy to skip Chiang Mai. So, does anyone have any suggestions on ...

What\'s Travelling Alone in Low Season Like?

Posted by Madrileno on 6/6/2014 at 09:45

Hi there, I am thinking of travelling alone in Thailand in July for about 8 weeks. I know this is low-season, which is cheaper and quieter, but are there still many other people travelling? Is it still just as easy to meet other travellers in low season if you're travelling alone? Are some of the smaller, remote islands still accessible and do tours/excursions still run in low-season? Is there still a fairly lively backpacker scene? Thanks for your answers! *The \ in the title appeared aut ...

Bangkok--where to spend afternoon with a baby

Posted by Jojc123 on 17/5/2014 at 00:25

We're a family with a young baby and looking for ideas on how to spend an afternoon in the khao san rd area after we check out of our hotel before catching a night train. We know we could go to a restaurant etc but thought I had read something ages ago about being able to pay a hotel to use their pool. Any ideas on somewhere cool or shady we go could for a few hours? Or ideas on a/c malls close by? ...

Best Islands for Snorkeling

Posted by Surefolly on 15/5/2014 at 14:33

I'm planning a 3 week trip for my family to Thailand - approximately Feb. 6 - 27. My wife and I went to Koh Tao in 2003 and LOVED it - hands down the best snorkeling experience we've ever had. This trip we are bringing our boys (ages 11 and 8 at time of travel) and are thinking about going back to KohTao, but are also interesting and seeing some islands we've not been to before. What other islands in Thailand compare to Koh Tao when it comes to snorkeling? We've heard good things about Koh Ku ...

Three weeks in July. Help a first time visitor?

Posted by shua73 on 30/5/2014 at 23:06

My wife and I are leaving the kids behind for three weeks and taking a very late honeymoon in July. We have a few things booked in the North (some relaxing after wrapping up teaching for the year). Some trekking, some elephant watching - you know how it goes. Where I'm stuck is planning for the south. The Andaman seems a little wet, and Samui seems a little crowded. We'd love a place to eat great food and enjoy nice beaches. We'd love to experience something totally different than the Cana ...

Khao Yai national park guides

Posted by FrenchArt on 6/5/2012 at 05:47

Has anyone hire a private guide in the Khao Yai national park? We will have a car and being somewhat ancient cannot walk all day, so we would like to hire a guide for a half day - just to go to one of the observation towers - probably the one at km33. We also noted that most of the organised tours go around 0800 and it is our experience in other nature reserves that to see any wildlife it is better to go much earlier. We were thinking of trying to get to the park around 0630, so would like to o ...

Help needed with Thailand/Cambodia trip please - 30 days

Posted by Levesque25 on 12/5/2014 at 17:46

Hello folks, I'm planning on traveling solo to Thailand and Cambodia for 30 days total for the 1st time, and here's what I've come up with so far. Just need advice on the amount of time to spend for each place. Please let me know if I'm trying to go to too many places and what I should take out, if any, as I understand there's quite a bit of traveling involved to get to these places. Also please let me know if I'm spending too much or too little time in one place and I'll make adjustments. If ...

Currently this is our proposed plan for me and a friend who want to see as much of Thailand and Vietnam as possible but are only going for just over a month. We will be flying into Bangkok on July 8th and leaving on August 13th. This is our rough initial plan: 1. Sleeper train up to Chiang Mai, spend a few days there and then return back to Bangkok 2. Get a flight to Hanoi and spend a few days there 3. Bus to Sa Pa, stay there for a few days then back to Hanoi 4. Then a bus to Ha Long Ba ...

6 weeks in Thailand

Posted by roro1990 on 20/4/2014 at 08:33

Hey, I have been to Thailand once in my life (my first solo trip) in October of last year. Unfortunately I had to return home early from it due to illness. I got a job upon returning to my country but it's only a 9 month contract which ends in October so I'm thinking of going again on a 6 week trip. Firstly, is 6 months in advance way too early to buy tickets and plan my route? I haven't yet bought tickets, but I'm considering it as right now a return is 594 euro which seems cheap to me. I am a ...

Best places/activities to meet others when in your 30s and away from the party scene?

Posted by Dech on 10/5/2014 at 14:45

Hi there, I'm a 35 year old woman and I'm returning to Thailand on my first solo trip in July and while I'm looking forward to the freedom I'm worried I'll not meet others in my age bracket and that I'll just meet 20 somethings partying it up! I do like the odd drink but can't deal with the hangovers anymore, to my eternal sorrow, so won't be staying in the party hostels that people go to to socialise. How do others meet people away from this scene? Are there particular places or hostels that p ...

Phi Phi to Chiang Mai on Air Asia

Posted by simonesa on 18/5/2014 at 11:21

Hello, I am looking to make the jump from Ko Phi Phi to Chiang Mai on Air Asia's direct flight. I am currently being quoted $118 USD for two passengers, including checked bag fees and seat assignments. The flight departs at 1525 (3:25). Would we be cutting it close if we took the 10:30am ferry from Ko Phi Phi to Krabi and arrive at 12:00pm? I have read that the airport is about 20 minutes away from the pier. In my mind that seems like enough time, even if there is a delay with the ferry, ...
