Thailand to Laos to Cambodia to Thailand

Posted by limpingfox on 30/10/2014 at 11:37

Hi all, Would welcome some guidance from more experienced travellers. I'm travelling with my family for 3 months in Asia. We are planning to arrive in Thailand on 27th Jan and then travel to Laos, Cambodia and back to Thailand to fly home. total trip time 90 days. At this point the only thing we have booked is the return flight to Bangkok and which we fly to from London where we are UK residents. I'd welcome some help to ensure border crossings are as hassle free as possible. Some concerns b ...

Traveling the remote province of Loei

Posted by changnoi1 on 29/10/2014 at 00:13

OK this is not a travel question but a kind of "Just Back Report". I am living in Khon Kaen, the center of North East Thailand. And in my free time I like to ride motorbike or just travel in Thailand, Laos or Cambodia. And my favorite province (nearby) is Loei . Thai people tend to say "Pai Loei" as in "Go far away". Well and that is what the province of Loei used to be .... far and remote in the beautiful mountains. And actually it still is. Riding up route 2331 ...

Really disappointed by phi phi

Posted by roro1990 on 28/10/2014 at 01:05

Anyone else feel this way? I am a young guy of 23 so obviously you'd expect phi-phi to be like paradise for me with the constant partying. But as soon as I stepped off the boat I hated it. 20baht tax for entering the island (strange) and the place smelled so bad. The scenery, whilst nice, was nothing compared to the likes of Raileh for me. I mean Raileh was 1000x nicer. I'm not sure what the big deal about this island is. I've left after 1 and a half days. The repetitive overly loud crappy techn ...

Bangkok to Ayuttaya and Lopburi

Posted by malaysiansenior on 25/10/2014 at 13:37

My wife and I plan to visit Bangkok in December 2014. From Bangkok we would like to go to Ayuttaya and Lopburi to see all the must see sights and also the Sunflowers fields near Lopburi. What is the most convenient and safe way of transport we should use? Train? Bus? Minivan? We plan to stay overnight one night in Ayuttaya and one night in Lopburi. Will we have enough time to see all we want to see with one night stay in each place? Any recommendations on clean and comfortable hotels to stay o ...

Chiang Khong

Posted by MADMAC on 26/10/2014 at 04:01

Went there this weekend and was really surprised at how different it was from the description in Lonely Planet. I expected a total backwater, very quiet, with nothing going on. Wrong. Lonely Planet says there's no 7-11 there and the people of the town are happy about that. There is a 7-11 there. Must have been opened after they published. Lonely planet says it's a great place to go if you want to do nothing. The riverside street was closed to traffick and there were hundreds - maybe a thousand ...

Honeymoon in Thailand

Posted by Mandira on 6/10/2014 at 02:38

Hi There I'm looking for help to plan my honeymoon in November 2014. We definitely wanted to include lazy beaches, parties, a little sight seeing to get a flavor of the local culture, shopping and of course, romance ! We'll fly in to Bangkok and spend 2-3 days there... Also wanted to take in a live Muay Thai fight so I suppose that's Pattaya. From what I see on weather reviews, November is heavy monsoon in Koh Samui, Ko Tao etc. Is this right? And how bad does it get? We don't want to be c ...

Koh Pangan New Years Eve Full Moon Party Accommodation

Posted by StephJayne165 on 1/10/2011 at 00:09

I'm taking a month out in dec/jan to travel around thailand. I'm currently trying to get some accommodation in Koh Pangan but struggling slightly as I've left it a bit late. Can get a bed in a 19bed dorm in the Dancing Elephant in Haat Rin, but not too sure how I feel about sharing with that many people. I'm up for a party and a laugh, and I am travelling on my own so I'm figuring it'll be a good way to meet people... but I do want to get some sleep occasionally as I'll be staying there for a we ...

What to do with luggage while waiting for Sleeper Train?

Posted by InTheWorld on 21/10/2014 at 22:52

I'm going to be traveling from Bangkok to Chiang Mai in the next day or two. I've never taken a train before and thought it would be a great experience. I'm told it's a good value because you get to sleep in it overnight and thus avoid another night in the hotel. But what I don't understand is if I check out at 11am from the hotel, and the train doesn't leave until 6pm, what am I suppose to do with my luggage all day between? ...

Bike hire in Chiang Mai

Does anyone know any good bike hire shops in Chiang Mai? I hired a bike from one guest house, but the brake lever broke (bike was cheap one!). Have seen one company that does tours, but also rents bikes, but cost is 400baht a day which seems way too high. Any advice would be appreciated ...

Do I need a tourist visa for Thailand given my schedule?

Posted by Levesque25 on 18/10/2014 at 19:53

Greetings, I looked at the Visa information section on this site, and I just wanted to ask here on the forum just to be sure. I'm a novice solo-traveler so forgive me for asking. I'm a United States citizen and have a US passport, will be booking a round-trip flight from the US to Thailand, and my schedule is as follows: I'll be arriving in Thailand (BKK) on March 2nd from the US. From Thailand, I'll be heading out to Cambodia (by air) on March 18th. From Cambodia, I'm going back to Thaila ...

Applied for the wrong visa!

Posted by Sweetpea on 10/10/2014 at 09:13

My husband and I were granted a two-month single entry visa in Denpasar recently. At the time, this was perfect for our needs. But literally two days later, a teaching job opportunity arose for me with a six month contract in Thailand. They will sort out my sponsorship/visa but my husband and I will have to sort out his visa. We should have gotten and double entry, but didn't know at the time. We are not in Thailand yet. What are our options for my husband's situation? He will have two months a ...

Hi all, I am currently in Thailand on the 30 day free entry visa. From here I plan on visiting Laos and Cambodia then back to Thailand for Christmas and new year. I am from uk and I am planning in coming back to Thailand from Cambodia by land (bus or train) will this get me another 30 day entry or is it just 15 days because it is by land and my second arrival in Thailand? I was considering a double entry visa as I will be leaving Thailand after new year to go to Vietnam then coming back for a ...

visa requirements- full paid ticket back

Posted by aandzy on 18/10/2014 at 23:04

Hello! Me and my friend are traveling to Thailand tomorrow, however we still haven't bought the tickets for our onward journey out of Thailand. We are planning to go to Laos after Thailand and are thinking to take a bus instead of flying, which we would organise when in Thailand. The visa requirements for visa on arrival states that we need to present full paid ticket which is usable within 15 days since the date of entry. Do you think they would issue the visa to us without the tickets? If no ...

Khao San Road clean up

Posted by sambrown on 14/10/2014 at 23:37

The Bangkok Post reports that Khao San Road is set to undergo a clean up, with some of the new regulations including "a 1m-wide space on footpaths for pedestrians, and that the makeshift stalls will be put away every night after the market closes." A step towards dull sanitisation of a colourful, iconic strip, or a good move to help safety and pedestrians? ...

Thailand in 5 weeks

Hi, I have a rough plan of where we'd like to visit but i would love if someone could advise on the best route and if we are trying to do too much or if there is somewhere else we could fit in. We only have 5 weeks so will probably pre-book internal flights where possible to save on time although i'm interested if there is a train journey that is worth taking for the scenery. Flying from london into Bangkok and then we wish to visit Ko samui/surrounding islands, Phuket/surrounding islands. Chi ...

Thailand in November...Koh lanta/ koh lipe or koh chang?

Posted by Chad2709 on 10/10/2014 at 05:05

Hi there.... My husband and I will be travelling to Thailand from the 4th November for a week, and can't decide which island to visit? We only want to go to one and have nice beaches, snorkelling and maybe some hiking to see natural sights. Not into noisy night life! Want somewhere reasonably easy to travel to from Bangkok and not too touristy. We were also wanting to find self catering there any? All seem to be resorts including breakfast and need to eat out every night? ...
