Affordable Luxury Villa along Andaman Coast, Thailand

Posted by reneejm1 on 14/12/2013 at 20:41

Hi I'm travelling to Thailand in February 2014 and will have a few days at the end of my trip by myself, I'll probably be in Phuket so was hoping to see more of the islands. My friend and I are planning on visiting Bangkok, Phuket, Koh Samui, Koh Phangnan and Koh Phi Phi. I was trying to find another island on the Andaman Coast where I could possibly stay in a luxury villa or resort that was rather affordable for two - four nights by myself just for some down time. Note that I'll be backpacki ...

A good barber in Bangkok?

Posted by ktontour on 16/12/2013 at 08:17

Trivial I know, but in an effort to avoid a skinhead, can anyone advise on a good barbershop in Bangkok? I've been unilaterally warned off it by everyone I've met thus far who's ventured a try.. but I'm 3 months in and starting to resemble Patrick Swayze circa Dirty Dancing... but with none of the rhythm or sex appeal. With sincere thanks ...

Searching for thai food - in thai

Posted by jokhm on 2/2/2009 at 01:52

Hey All I'm about to arrive in thailand, after several hundred days away, and this time, despite it being the 10th time I'm traveling there, I'd like to get my street food done correctly. Can anyone discuss this a bit further, with some thai names (with pronunciation) for these snacks and general foods that I should be expecting to see and look for? I'll mostly in Bangkok, and then further south near koh lanta for much of my two week stay. I'm really hoping that this time I can take proper ...

Protests in Bangkok today (Monday December 9, 2013)

Posted by somtam2000 on 8/12/2013 at 18:13

Yes the protests are back on following a brief break for the King's Birthday. Common advice is: a) I've you're arriving or departing to Bangkok today by air, allow an extra hour or so to get to the airport. If you're using Suvannabhumi, use the rail link. b) Avoid the protests -- these are not put on for tourists. c) stay informed of developments (news websites etc - some useful links further on) d) Keep in mind that the vast majority of Bangkok (and the country for that matter) are entirely un ...

HELP! If anyone has done this route, I'd love to pick your brain! ...

cell phone unlock and reset

I lost my phone in Bangkok and I just bought a used UPAD U31 Android phone from a friend and I need to reset it and unlock it and make it able to use my Tmobile service from the U.S. that I have already paid for. Where is the best place in Bangkok (near the BTS) to do this? Also where is the best place to repair a UPAD U31 Android ...

Hello.. First time in Thailand next week and would love to go to Ko Phi Phi but a bit afraid of mass tourism... But still don't wanna skip this beautiful part of Thailand. Is it possible to book one night on the island and book a longtail in the morning when the sun rises? And do a tour around the island? Would it cost a lot? And you think i can find someone who's willing to pick us up that early? Just wondering... Thx for any tips feedback! Joachim ...

Durian used in a spa?

Posted by Durianwriter on 2/12/2013 at 06:21

Just curious, has anyone ever heard of this? Supposedly durian is sometimes used for facials in high end spas in Bangkok. Seems unlikely to me. http://travel.cnn.com/explorations/asias-most-bizarre-spas-and-soaks-545994 ...

Another protest question! - Travel to Rambuttri

Posted by foxiebex on 10/12/2013 at 07:23

Hi, Maybe stupidly I decided not to change my hotel from Rambuttri Village so I now have to get there on Thursday. I noticed captainbkk commented on here yesterday that you couldn't get a taxi to KSR area and that the boats were packed. Do you think that this was because of yesterdays march or is this going to be the norm for a while? If anybody is there at the moment who could let me know the score that would be great. Thanks ...

Chiang Mai hotel recommendation - Dec-27 - Dec-30

Posted by leland on 29/11/2013 at 01:08

I'm looking up recommended places from the board, but it's a busy time of year. Wondering if someone has a few good spots for mid-30s friends? Require two beds. Prefer proximity to city (i.e. no resort out of town). If cheap enough we would hire two rooms to get two beds. Ideal budget is $100 USD/night or less. Looking for a three night stay from Dec-27 through Dec-30. Any recommendations? Priorities are: -Proximity -Cleanliness -Aircon/comfort -Place to read / chill out at hotel or nearby -Uniq ...

Thailand Visa - help!

Posted by IndiaGabrielle on 6/6/2013 at 15:27

Hi everyone, I'm going to Thailand at the end of July and need to sort my Visa. What's the best way to do this? I'm going to Thailand for around 2/3 months, but going to be leaving to travel to Vietnam/Cambodia etc within this time. Do I need to go to a Thai embassy in Britain to get a Visa? Would a tourist visa be the one that I need? (Visa-free stay isn't an option - I think I'll be there too long). Any help on this topic would be much appreciated! Thanks ...

In search of good weather..?

Posted by eirengal on 4/12/2013 at 00:09

Hi, I'm about to complete a year of travelling and had planned to spend my final week on a beach in the sunshine just chilling out. I'm in Ko Tao at the minute and, as expected, the weather is pretty miserable. It is rainy season though so no surprises. I believe that the weather on the Andaman coast is similar to here, however, and this throws my plans in the air. I had planned to go to krabi/phi phi for the last week of my trip. Does anyone have any recommendations on where to go that is ge ...
