Keeping my Stuff Safe

Posted by Bevatron on 1/10/2010 at 02:16

Hi, I'm taking my first trip to SEA next month, and will be traveling through Thailand, Vietnam, and Cambodia for two months. I have read a lot about locking up backpacks, keeping cash/passports on you at all times, etc. My question is, what do I do with these things when I can't be right there with them. For example, during a shower, or while snorkeling/swimming. What do I do with my passport then? Can I keep my backpack in the hostel/hotel while I am out exploring places, or do I literal ...

Camping in SEA

Posted by keatonec on 24/7/2010 at 09:25

I was wondering if it was a good idea to take a tent with myself and my girlfriend while we are traveling around SEA? I have heard about people tenting it on remote beaches totally by themselves and it sounds amazing! Also I was wondering how much of a hassle it is to carry one around or if we could maybe just rent them wherever we are at the time. Personally I think I would rather just have one with me at all times so I can have the choice right then and there about whether I want to camp. Al ...

I'll be travelling for 7 weeks in Asia and then for 3 months in Central and South America. Do you think 60 litres or 65 litres is a good size for a backpack? thanx ...

Locked bag = ripped open by customs?

Posted by CrankyCarrot on 10/8/2010 at 15:54

They say an accurate title will increase the chance of an accurate answer, so it's all there. I want to avoid being made a drug mule so I bought some combo locks to keep my checked luggage/backpack secure. BUT, if customs thinks there's something suspect in the bag, what will they do? A. Rip it open to check, hence ruining the bag? B. Contact me to come and open the locks so they can look? C. Something else? I already know there's some special locks that can be opened by US customs with a ...

Moneybelt? Flat and comfy to wear???

Posted by JamieG on 3/8/2010 at 23:44

Hi Guys, Im heading to SEA in 3 weeks and am just buying the last bits of kit! Now, I wouldn't normally use one, but I think a moneybelt is a must for travelling in South East Asia for a length of time. So, my question is, which moneybelt can I buy that: 1. Is flat so can be worn under my t shirt without it being visible! 2. Comfy to wear/small etc! Any ideas??? I have been looking on ebay and online for one, and although I can see pictures I would prefer some first hand knowledge of a mo ...

One Planet - Aussie made Backpacks

Posted by CrankyCarrot on 3/8/2010 at 17:15

I went for a little walk around the backpacker district in the Sydney city area yesterday to try and get a bead on the best pack for me. After speaking with sales people in three different shops, I certainly knew a lot more than I did before about everything from the physics of packing to the names of obscure bones in the body that were pivotal to correct harness adjustment. My question is, does anyone have any experience with bags manufactured by a Melbourne based company named 'One Planet'? ...

I wasn't planning on going to SEA when I first came to Spain, so I have a large suitcase that I will be taking with me. What are my storage options while I travel around the country? Keep money on self, or in hotel?

Posted by robo555 on 29/4/2010 at 18:21

We'll be going to Vietnam and Cambodia for 15 days. Is it better to carry all the money with us where ever we go, or keep them in the hotel? On one hand, carrying money in money belt means possible scams/stolen, and not convenient when we go to beaches. Leaving in hotel could mean getting stolen. What's your advice? ...
