Despite what you may think, the overhead lockers on flights would not be better utilised as storage for small children. Travel with kids is great -- really ... honestly. Look, we've done it -- it does have its own set of unique challenges, but there are big rewards too -- really! We do have a summary story on the site regarding travelling in Asia with children that parents may find of interest along with the discussion in the forum. ...

Hi. My wife and I are thinking of taking our kids (1,3,5) and heading to Cambodia, Vietnam and possibly Laos. We just want to relax and take it easy and hang out for at least a month or so in each country. Has anyone taken young kids to these places for a while? How did you find it and how welcome are they? Anything else to add? Thanks in advance! ...

Where to go in october/november?

Posted by mmm on 15/3/2013 at 19:32

Hi, I'm planning a trip for 2.5-3 weeks starting somewhere in the second half of October and going into November, for our family (having four kids, ages between 6 and 13). I'm mainly looking at Sri Lanka, Thailand, Vietnam and Malaysia. My plan is to stay in 3 or 4 locations during the trip (not too long travel between each). Our main goal are some nice beaches, good weather and a good price level. Some snorkeling options from the beach would also be nice. But the weather seems to be quite un ...

We have traveled in Thailand with our son (and Vietnam/China/Myanmar with no kids) but this is our first time in Laos and Cambodia. We will have 3-3.5 weeks. Do you think the below itinerary is reasonable? Any suggestions on what we should add or subtract? Any hidden off the beaten path gems to suggest? Any suggestions on which Cambodian island is good for a family? In Thailand, we loved Koh Mak (it was ...

Parents, we need your help!

Posted by annepel on 14/9/2015 at 07:40

Hi! We are two tourism students from the Netherlands. For one of our courses we had to come up with an innovative product. Our idea is to design a travel pack for kids. With this we are looking for an alternative from technology. The thing is that we don't have a lot of experience with little kids (say age 2 to 5) and travelling with them. We'd appreciate your expertise with advising us on what the children would like when they have to sit and travel in a car or plane for a certain ...

Posted by sistaka on 20/3/2010 at 00:36

Hi all We are taking our 2 kids, ages 11 and 6 on a 5 week trip to SEA in July/August. We plan to have 3 nights in BKK initially to recover from the flight and then, who knows? We would like to spend around 5 days in Siem Reap and also let our children experience the rainforest at Khao Sak and some chill out time on Phangan. We would like to take the train south, but are finding it really hard to build in Cambodia as the flights are so expensive. Does anyone have any ideas of ho ...

Travelling with Kids?

Posted by chrisrieom on 20/2/2014 at 05:14

I am currently 9 months (37 weeks pregnant). I have a 5 (6 in November) year old step daughter from my spouse's first marriage. We are looking into going on a trip this Christmas (approved already by our doctor) with ourselves and the kids. Both my spouse and I have only travelled out of country by ourselves (never with kids) so we're not quite sure what's the best way with kids. Questions I have are: 1. Does anyone have any first hand experience with what worked/didn't work when travelling with ...

Backpacking with kids

Posted by humph on 16/1/2010 at 14:21

We are taking our 11yr old and 9yr old to Vietnam and Cambodia in July. We have decided to take backpacks instead of cases and stay in mid to budget accommodation and take buses and trains to try and get a more real experience. We have never backpacked (although we have traveled to asia several times and have been to Cambodia before) and are not sure what packs to buy. Have done a search and seen many suggestions on different options, so now need to decide: do we get 2 big (65 - 75lt) packs f ...

WHat is the best time and place to travel with kids to Mexico?

Posted by jeckjiem on 23/5/2013 at 10:39

My wife and I have three kids ( 13, 11, 8 ). We have never been to Mexico as a family. I would like an All Inclusive, but as we often do, we don't need two rooms. Most hotels, if we tell them we are traveling with 3 kids won't let us stay in one room. With an All Inclusive I would thiink it near impossible to do this and get all three kids all the All Inclusive benefits. Any help and ideas would be appreciated. ...

Help with Fears about traveling with children??

Posted by NetM on 11/10/2011 at 10:38

Hi all Great posts from many people and enjoy reading them. My partner and I are about to get married and looking to start a family and are keen to continue our travels once we have kids. A lot of friends and family are against the idea of traveling with young kids, and cite many reasons..... but we are excited by it….. and want to learn as much as we can from others who have done it too. Although we are excited by the adventure, we do realise that its worth being prepared and we would be v ...
