My husband and I are traveling for a month in SEA starting early November. We've booked a few legs on our trip and are looking to fill in our itinerary. We are traveling with our ten month old and just aren't sure which locations within specific regions would be best for him. We are intentionally not booking rooms/tours with deposits because we are aware that traveling with a baby needs to be kept flexible.
Luang Prabang - 11/10 - 11/16
Is it feasible to travel with a baby to Non ...
Hi we are a family of 5 - kids aged 5,7 and 9 - looking to travel for 4-5 weeks in Jan 2013 (i know i'm early in the preparation.......half the fun is researching and planning the trip!!)
We really enjoy meeting the people and not having a 'canned' travel experience eg. Phantasea in Phuket would not be our thing ;o)
At this stage
1. We are looking to fly via singapore with 2 days stop-over then on to Chiang Mai - i would love to do the Mae Hong son loop with a guide + homestay for a nigh ...
WE are a family of four planning to move to nz late 2009. We are planning to do a bit of travel in SE asia on the way there. I am looking for some advice for some destinations suitable for kids but not too commercialised. THe kids are 5 & 8.
Hi there, I have a few questions regarding car and child seat hire in Thailand as well as boat trips.
1. I am wondering how easy it is to hire a good quality, safe toddler car seat in Thailand.
If we dont hire a car, is it ok to travel in Taxi's / Tuk Tuk with baby in a carrier.
2. If we do hire a car can we still travel with the toddler in a baby carrier? or are there laws stipulating children should be in a car seat?
3. We thinking about a day trip to one on the islands - is this ...
My wife and I are planning to take our 7 mnths old baby to koh chang and kanchanaburi in January.
Are there specific health hazards for babies there?
The baby will get all mandatory vaccinations by that time.
I understand dungue and malaria are known yet not common risks (solved with a mosquito repellant and net)
Thanks in advance, G
PS - looked all around the site for an answer, my appologies if I missed out on it. ...
I am just starting to prepare my backpacker trip for Feb/March 2012 with my then-almost-6year old son.
In former times I used to travel India and Thailand (but that was in the 90s when no one had i-access... ) and my dream is to do a similar trip throughout Asia with my son before school starts.
I am very much interested in Laos, Cambodia and Thailand.
Towards the middle of this ~5 weeks' trip my husband will join for an ~2,5 weeks' traveling and relaxing beach vacation.
So, h ...
We need some extra help to embark on our fabulous, thrilling and somewhat daunting trip to South East Asia. We are going as a family with 3 boys aged 5, 7 and 10 for 10months starting in Lombok/Gili for some well deserved beach rest for the end of August. The idea is to NOT do the tourist trail but engage with the locals to show the boys different cultures and way of life. Ideally we would stay in Indonesia for 90 days, visa permitted, doing Lombok for 2 weeks, Flores and Komodo, cross to Ub ...
We are flying into Bangkok on 12th August and leaving on 1st September. I am travelling with my wife and 2 children aged 8 & 10. We visited Thailand 3 years ago for a week on our way back from Australia and visited Bangkok and Kanchanaburi. That was a great success. I have travelled a lot in Thailand and also visited Vientiane , but that was backpacking 20 years ago.
This time I want to travel to North East Thailand and combine it with either Northern Thailand or Laos. From looking in ...
My husband and I, along with our 7 months old and 4 years old daughters plan on spending about 3.5 weeks in Thailand mid March to mid April.
We plan on doing quite a bit of traveling as well as mixing accommodations- (beach bungalows, b&b and comfortable hotels). We will spend a few days here to satisfy everybody's interest but I am concerned the bus and train travels might be too exhausting for the kids and for us quite frankly.
Some places wil be just day trips but mostly we plan on ...

I´ve was just wondering; I know that you got to cover up when you visit temples and stuff, but what about children. Do boys have to wear long pants or are shorts fine for them and girls can they show of their knees. They are 5 and 8.
Thanks in advance
We are a family of 5 (16, 9 & 6 months) travelling to koh-maak for 4 nights and from there to Chang-Mai by train for a few days. We are looking for a balance of child friendly but not commercial (touristy) type of experience. Can any one help? Oh, and if you can recommend a not-too-expensive resort on Koh-Maak (one which doesn't charge a compulsory x-mas dinner fee) ...
We are a couple traveling with 2 girls (ages 8/10) and arrive in BKK late 14 Dec and leave 9 Jan. We'd like to visit Kanchanaburi, Ayuthaya (or Sukhothai, or both? which makes sense?), Lopburi and spend rest of time on a couple of islands before spending last 1 or 2 nights in BKK.
Our girls are fans of pools and beaches (surprise!).Good travelers, but not great at sightseeing. It would be nice for them to be around kids for part of the trip.
We may have left booking over peak season a b ...
We are planning to travel in Southern Laos mid-October with our 3 children (ages range from 8 months to 4 years). Our plan is to spend 3 days in the Boloven area at the TadFane Lodge, then take the cruise on the WatPhou boat and finish on a high end note at LaFolie Lodge on DongDaen. My concern is about Malaria. I hear mixed reports about it. We live in Bkk and have travelled a bit around with the children without taking any anti-malaria drugs. Does anyone can help me on this matter? Is there a ...
We've just published the first of a ten part series about travelling with kids titled "How not to go batty".
The first story, titled "10 tips on packing for a baby in Southeast Asia" covers, you guessed it, ten tips on things to (and not to) pack when you're travelling with a bub.
We'll be running a new piece every Monday for ten weeks -- hope you find them of use.
And to those travelling without kids -- get as much travelling as you can done now! ...
Would love to hear stories from families who have traveled with girls from Australia to Vietnam. we are going in October -and will travel the full length of Vietnam over 1 month. Please recommend nice cheap place to stay in Ho Chi Minh to get us off to a good start
we are planning a 4 month trip around SE Asia next summer. I know we're going to be in monsoon season, but the school would only agree to the trip if it took in the kids school holidays and didn't cut the start off the new school year in Sept. My question is where to go. We'll probably fly from the UK to Bangkok in early May and the only complete definates are Angkor wat and a beautiful beach (somewhere must be sunny??)I want to visit either malaysia or the phillipines for about 3 weeks and ...
