android apps for itinerary building?

Posted by fernwood on 8/9/2013 at 10:38

Hi all I've just realized that it would be really helpful to have an app to help me visualize and fill in my itinerary. I'm doing research, creating bookmarks, pasting into documents, putting post-its into books,,,it's all good, but it's unwieldy. What I'd like to be able to do is to put all the information onto a map somehow (I love maps!). Then when I found myself in the middle of Laos with a day to spare, I could have a look to see if I'd discovered anything interesting in the area. (or talk ...

take extra battery pack/second battery

Posted by neonama on 19/10/2013 at 01:38

Once, my friend drove me to a near city. At first I was playing games on my S3, then soon after I fell asleep with the phone on! When we arrived about 3 hrs later, my fully charged phone had only few juice left. My friend already left before I noticed my mistake, and I needed the GPS to get to my destination. I had to spend extra time to find a electrical outlet for recharging. The first thing I returned home was got myself an extra backup battery. After a few research and comparing I picked on ...

Posted by asiatravel2012 on 27/3/2012 at 12:31

Hi Im travelling to SEA for seven months and hoping to cover north thai, laos, vietnam, cambodia, south thai, malaysia and singapore. I'm confused as to which would be the best means of technology. I would use it mainly for facebook, skype video call, online bookings and a little for ebooks and music. I currently dont have either but am looking to purchase one or the other. For the internet i would turn off data roaming and just use the wifi. I like the fact with the iphone i could buy a local ...

Boost your WiFi connection range!

Posted by busylizzy on 31/10/2013 at 01:40

Having just done the rounds in Burma, I found several times that whilst hotels are now offering WiFi, it's sometimes only available in the lobby area. Or, if you're on the top floor of a tall, skinny hotel, the WiFi just doesn't quite reach the room. I've been using a WiFi 'booster' with really good success. Essentially if I can't pick up a signal with my ultrabook, I plug this in and all of a sudden I've got a very good connection. Of course, your internet speed is only as good as their broa ...

Saving my hardrive.

Posted by neosho on 13/12/2013 at 19:36

A few months ago I managed to spill a full cup of coffee onto my laptop keyboard. I have since bought a new one. The old one will turn on but with a blank screen. Does anyone think the hardrive might still be good to salvage some information, pictures, etc from? I don't want to drag a boat anchor around for nothing. ...

Unlocking Phone

Posted by Phiddy on 30/12/2011 at 10:49

I have an iPhone 4 which I plan on taking with me to SE Asia, I've seen a lot on here about making sure phones are unlocked, how do I find out if mine has been unlocked? And if it is should I / how do I unlock it? I will probably take it with me anyway even if I don't unlock it as I use it for taking photos sometimes and can use it to access wifi, although it will be pretty pointless if I can't make calls with it. Ta ...

iphone or ipod touch?

Posted by magdalena88 on 4/9/2013 at 22:06

Hey Guys, So first off I'm completely out of the technological loop, and have yet to own a smart phone. Therefore, I'm wondering if it's even necessary for me to have an iphone or ipod touch on my trip? The closer I get to leaving for an extended amount of time in SEA the more I'm beginning to think one or the other could come in handy for apps, podcasts, and skyping. Money is a factor for me and I'm not too excited about shelling out over 600+ dollars for an unlocked iphone. Could I get away wi ...

Choosing a camera (waterproofing) Help!

Posted by Ejh9110 on 18/4/2012 at 15:59

I'm going to be heading to SE Asia this summer. I'll be in Siem Reap for 8 weeks from the end of may through mid July and then I plan to travel around between Thailand and Laos. I was ready for a camera upgrade and I just bought a Canon Powershot S100. Now I'm second guessing this because I'm worried about always having it some sort of camera waterproof bag that I know they sell now. I know they sell some pretty nice waterproof cameras now, but I'm a Canon girl at heart and I just can't pu ...

eReader - Kindle or Kindle Fire?!

Posted by MissBanana on 23/1/2013 at 05:33

Hello This is my first post here and I'm after some advice please. I'm leaving for South East Asia in 2 weeks and am dithering about taking an ereader or tablet. I've narrowed it down to either getting a Kindle Paperwhite for just reading (as usually I end up carrying loads of books) or getting the Kindle Fire so I can read and get internet access for research, booking accommodation, internet etc. I'm going for 3 months and travelling alone, and not a tech-head at all - so any advice would be m ...

Useful stuff to take on a USB memory stick

Posted by bd7391 on 7/1/2013 at 08:37

So 4 months of not preparing has finally come to its end... I leave for my first ever travelling experience in 7 days; a slow jaunt around Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam and Bali. I'm not taking any technology except a basic mobile phone so that I can keep in contact with others I may meet on the road, and so will use internet cafes on the odd occasion no doubt. Firstly, my concern is internet security... would I be safe logging into my online banking using these computers? I'm guessing it ...

Posted by peachananr on 16/12/2012 at 06:37

Hello all, I've recently decided to keep track of my goals and achievements. I was unable to find an app that can help me do it efficiently so I built it myself. It's called The app basically allows you to store your goals online as a public profile page allowing anyone to see your awesome accomplishments. You can also attach photos and location to your accomplishment to proof that you've really done it and the app will share it automatically to your Facbeook/Twitter/Foursqua ...

1° Free Hot Spots ~ They are often not where you want them to be. Either advertised or you just try to connect to some hotel and it works. 2° Internet cafes ~ 1 Baht/min They are everywhere, haven't tried rural areas though... 3° (Some) places you stay ~ you pay 50 Baht, get receipt with username, password and 2 hours, which you can use through the day. 4° 3G: buy sim card for 50 Baht, load it with 350 Baht, insert it in your netbook (mine has 3G module built in, alternatively you nee ...
