Enough WiFi bandwidth for mass flickr uploading?

Posted by staverton on 3/8/2009 at 23:04

Hi all, I'll be travelling to Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos and Thailand from mid September for four weeks and am trying work out my best option for backing up photos on the move. I'm a keen amateur photographer and have been known to take over 1,000 pics in a day whilst travelling (this is the very extreme of course, thanks to all the pretty shrines and temples in Kyoto last year). Realistically I expect to take anywhere between 0 and 300 pics a day. My main camera is 10MPx and so even the JP ...

Hey... I have recently bought a camcorder and want to be able to edit the footage I have taken - it came with some trial s/w (Cyberlink Power Director) which I will need to upgrade to the full version to get all the tools - so has anyone ever used this? What other options should I be looking at? I am not averse to paying... but obviously if there is decent freeware about then that is better Thanks Chris ...

GPRS/Edge connection available on a pre-paid sim in Thailand?

Posted by KirstyB on 25/5/2009 at 12:50

I have read the very useful TravelHappy article regarding getting set up for mobile internet but what it doesn't mention is if this is applicable to pre-paid (rather than post-paid) sim cards? Does anyone know if it is relatively hassle-free to get a pre-paid sim that allows GPRS/Edge etc internet access? Also if anyone has any tips about which is the best network to go for they would be gratefully received too! Thanks ...

VietNam: Public Access WiFi

Posted by CatBa on 13/3/2008 at 14:54

There are many 'free' public access points in VietNam such as in KFC-Kentucky Fried Chicken, Highlands Coffee, Pho 24, etc which are often supplied through FTP Telecom. Unfortunately, many staff at outlets do not know much about these systems and in particular, the user name and password. The default Username and Password for FTP Telecom public access points are Username=FTP and Password=Telecom. Hopefully forum members will play fair and sponsor these organisations who are thoughtful e ...

Mobile internet while travelling

Posted by daflj on 4/9/2008 at 16:16

Can travellers recommend any mobile wifi enabled devices that I can access the internet while I travel? This would mainly be so I can access things like my internet banking facilities without using the potentially insecure terminals in internet cafes and the like. I'm thinking along the lines of the Asus EEC Netbook but any recommendations would be gratefully received. I assume that wifi connections will be relatively easy to find in the major tourist areas? ...

We are a family travelling for 6 months in India, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos. We will bring a computer (ASUS EEEPC with WIFI, only 1 kg)and are ready to buy a mobile phone once we're there. What is the cheapest solution when we want to be connected "on the run" - and to avoid spending time in internet cafes. Is 3G available? Or any other technology? Do we need to buy a SIM in each country? And which ones are cheapest? Any help is appreciated. We imagine that we will use t ...
