Around Chiang Rai

Posted by fondo on 12/11/2018 at 05:18

A short report on my recent sojourn around Chiang Rai . Lady fondo and I haven’t been to the Land of Smiles for a few years so it was great to get back. Rather than our usual policy of driving around we stayed in one place and drove out for day trips. We stayed about 10km north of Chiang Rai which was very quiet with enough restaurants and a market pretty close. There was plenty around CR to keep us occupied. We like walking and caving and used Highway 1 north and south to get our fill of d ...

My trip to Bagan

Posted by jimby on 13/11/2018 at 17:48

I did a solo trip to Bagan last winter for 3 days. In retrospect 3 days was waayyyy too short for Bagan, I think ideally 4-6 would've given me more time to explore all the temples there. Getting to Bagan was not easy. I flew to Bangkok, then connected to Mandalay, and then finally connected to Bagan. At the airport there was a 25,000 kyat fee I had to pay as the entry fee to all the temples. Getting to my hotel was via a taxi. My hotel was in the Nyaung-U area, not too far from the airport ...

BUKIT CLARIFICATIONS

Posted by tezza on 25/7/2018 at 18:27

Good to see TRAVELFISH NEWS LETTER #317 featuring the BUKIT PENINSULA of Bali, having just returned from another10 days stay. I enjoyed the quotes of ALBERTFALZON, one of the guys who “discovered” this part of Bali for westerners – I'm a contemporary of Alby, although never as good a surfer and it took me another 7-8 years to visit the BUKIT after his first pass-by. Since then I’ve returned most years, although osteo knees has turned me into a spectator recently. No matter, the surfing b ...

Grand adventure in Gran Canaria

Posted by Inigo21 on 11/8/2017 at 00:21

I really love going out and do some nature tripping so when my friends had a vacation last year on cannary island I didn't waste any opportunity to try climbing Roque Nublo a "must visit" in Gran Canaria may not be that challenging to climb if you are an expert and into extreme sports but the scenery that you can see from this route is absoultely unique. Well I'm the only one in the gang who's on to nature but theirs a lot more to do on Gran Canaria hope this could help. And if you sti ...

Weather concerns when visiting SE in August and September

Posted by Mbrzi25 on 9/5/2016 at 10:50

Hi Everyone, I am planning to do a 2 month trip to Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam and Myanmar in August and September. I have never been to the region before, and have read really mixed reports on what places will be like at this time. I understand that all of the individual countries have diverse weather by region, so it will certainly vary, but I guess I am just looking for some confirmation that it will be safe/enjoyable to travel at this time. I'm not bothered by rain, but certainly want ...

3 weeks in July: Vietnam or Indonesia

Posted by ihavequestions on 21/3/2015 at 10:19

Myself and a friend are looking to travel in Asia for about 3 weeks in July and we have settled on either Vietnam or Indonesia. We are looking for low budget travel, our interests include nature and animals, outdoor activities, beaches, culture, geography and food. Ideally we would like some nice weather, but its not the most important thing- as long as it wont be raining all day every day. Any ideas for which country to choose and why, and itineraries would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! ...

Mekong Delta, Vietnam scooter trip in photos

Posted by somtam2000 on 7/1/2013 at 02:14

In early December 2012 I did a 11 day scooter trip through the Mekong Delta with a couple of friends. While I'll be blogging about it on the Vietnam Blog in detail in the coming weeks, I thought I'd post a map and a few pics from the trip to perhaps get a few feet itching. Below is the map of the route we took. While I was tracking the entire trip by GPS, the Everytrail iPhone app I used has crapped out on me and I can't retrieve the route nor any of my waypoints -- EVERYTRAIL I AM NOT HAPPY - ...

10 days in Myanmar

Posted by Ruthbrain on 17/9/2015 at 09:48

Myanmar is a fascinating country and best to visit now while it's still relatively untouched by modern development. The people are so friendly, the women and men still wear traditional longis and it is a challenge to dodge the constant betel spitting. We did a 10 day circuit Yangon / Bagan /Inle Lake/Yangon. After landing in Yangon We spent 2 nights staying at Chan Myaye Guesthouse (recommended by travelfish). It was in a good location and had lovely helpful staff. We did lots of walking around ...

2 Months in SE Asia

Posted by tdk197 on 19/6/2015 at 13:03

Hey guys I'm wondering if you can take a look at my plan and give me any helpful feedback. This is my first time backpacking and I'll be going with a friend. We are going from late October to late December. All of my plans are in the attached picture. I mostly want to know if it's doable or if I'm rushing. None of the days are set in stone, I just wanted a general idea of how long to stay in each place. I will gladly stay at a place that I like longer and shorter at one that I'm not fond of. Is ...

10 weeks in SE Asia with two young children - it's a wrap!

Posted by FoundVagabond on 25/8/2014 at 22:20

We are a Canadian family of four with an 8 and 10 year old, currently in Bangkok on the final days of our 10 week trip around SE Asia. I wanted to do a quick posting as a show of thanks, as I used Travelfish extensively while doing research for our own trip before we left. I was most interested in finding blogs or postings from families who have traveled this part of the world as I think the needs of families are quite different than those of single backpackers; in fact, they are very differen ...

Stray Asia.... The biggest mistake of my trip

Posted by Travellingbanjo on 5/3/2015 at 06:01

So, Stray Asia has a policy on the reviews on their website, it has to show them in a positive light or else they refuse to 'approve' it, so no one sees anything except for good things from their website. Well unfortunately I fell for their good reviews and the experience I had was not quite so rosy! Below is the honest review that they refused to show on the website: So stray... The worst decision I ever made. Overpriced, appalling service, blatant lies on the adverts and I wasn't the only one ...
