We are a Canadian family of four with an 8 and 10 year old, currently in Bangkok on the final days of our 10 week trip around SE Asia. I wanted to do a quick posting as a show of thanks, as I used Travelfish extensively while doing research for our own trip before we left.
I was most interested in finding blogs or postings from families who have traveled this part of the world as I think the needs of families are quite different than those of single backpackers; in fact, they are very differen ...
So, Stray Asia has a policy on the reviews on their website, it has to show them in a positive light or else they refuse to 'approve' it, so no one sees anything except for good things from their website. Well unfortunately I fell for their good reviews and the experience I had was not quite so rosy! Below is the honest review that they refused to show on the website:
So stray... The worst decision I ever made. Overpriced, appalling service, blatant lies on the adverts and I wasn't the only one ...
Last month, meand my friend headed in Hanoi to attend a wedding of my friend. She married avietnamese man so we went to hanoi to joined with her. But Hanoi is so beutifulso we decided to stay more few days to discovery Hanoi. And this are somehighlights of the trip or spleeping:
The essence hotel isconveniently located in the charming old quarters of historic Hanoi , it takes 15 minutes to walk from hotel toHoan Kiem lake. and, it located in crowded street with a lot of bar, clu ...
We have just returned from a 6 day trip to Koh Lanta; a great place to visit. We stayed at Lanta Miami on Khlong Nin beach; a great location....right on the beach. The resort was middle of the road; not fancy but clean and comfortable, with a great pool, and the restaurant served good, reasonable meals. The rate included breakfast, which was pretty average, but not as bad as a lot of the reviews suggested. The room had air-con (essential!!), a fridge, TV and free Wifi. A highlight of the trip wa ...
Warning this is a long post, but please help!
I have been reading this forum for about a year now and methodically planned everything out thanks to all your wonderful words of wisdom and caring hearts. I was hoping some of you experienced backpackers/travellers would be so kind to view my plan and offer some suggestions/criticisms.
First some background. I am an engaged 30 year old and as a honeymoon I am taking my future wife for a one month trip to Thailand in February 2016 (shhh, s ...
I just wrote up a trip report on our camera-trapping expedition to the Lao border inside of Virachey NP in Cambodia. Lots of info, links, descriptions, and photos in there. Hopefully it will inspire a few to visit the park. ...

I have been reading a lot and I made a draft of what would be my 4 week travel to SEA (Thailand, Laos, Vietnam). I am going with my wife and we would like to taste local food, go to tradicional markets, experience nature and step over most amazing temples and cultural events.
Would you give me an advice of which places would you remove or replace (impossible to add anything I guess)?. I have not included Cambodia but I will be willing to.
You can see what I have planned here (PPT fi ...
I finally got my wish and did the 3 day-2night live-aboard snorkelling trip to the Similans put on by Poseidon Bangalows out of Khao Lak in late January 08.
I found it one of the best live aboard trips I’ve done and highly recommend it to not only to people who like snorkelling some pretty good reefs and checking excellent marine-life, but others who simply like chugging around on a comfortable slow-boat thru a series of scenic islands (the Similans are a string of 9 hilly forest clad islands ...
Hi guys, myself and my boyfriend are looking to travel around SE Asia starting from Cambodia, into Thailand, down to Malaysia and Singapore, across to Indonesia and finally finishing at Bali. The question is- how much would I need for food/drink, Lodging, excursions and personal spend for 6 months? Before we go, flights will be paid for, couple of night accommodation in each place and have around £300 for other travel expenses- so it would be spending money. I have been researching and lookin ...
My friend and I have 2 months to travel in S.E.A. That said, Id like to hit Thailand, Laos , Cambodia and Vietnam.
Is 2 months a good enough chunk of time to comfortably hit all 4 countries? If not, I was thinking of excluding Laos.
-Must see/do : Diving , snorkeling , Temple running, occasional partying, beaching, Jungle trekking , Marketing.
-I do not want to feel rushed through things, but Id like to enjoy all the highlights, on and off the beaten path.
-Money is not really an issu ...
I recently got back from 5 weeks in SEAsia -- I used this website for a number of inquiries and everybody was really helpful. I wanted to at least put up a trip report so explain how everything went.
I think given my rapid itinerary and negative tone in a few areas will land me some criticism -- that I didn't spend enough time here or there, that I did not do things the best way, etc. People really love this area of the world but I didn't enjoy everything. This is not to say that it's bad ...
I recommend the trip, not the company. Mr. Nam Tran, despite several phone calls, didn't care about showing up and left the business to his wife and his father. I wouldn't expect him to a be a good guide either.
I've just seen basic Hondas moped in the parking in front of the shop.
The motorbikes are pricy (200K Dong/ten dollars per day) but in very good conditions, my back brake was a bit weak, but that's it. I found them perfect for our needs, they're light and flexible, we explored narrow ...
I am so glad we stumbled across Travelfish when researching for our trip to Thailand, Laos and Cambodia. Thanks to everyone who answered my questions, all the guesthouse reviews and travel guides.
All I need to do now is save up for a Travelfish T shirt!
Long may it continue!
I have been travelling all over SE Asia over the past two years. Check out the following link if you can.
After nearly two years of planning and waiting, the time is ALMOST here. We have planned this trip knowing our Great Dane was not going to live "forever" and we could not go whilst he was with us. He passed away on 20th January 2014 and from that date the wheels have started turning.
So on March 14th we fly out of Melbourne to Kuala Lumpur and onward through China and South East Asia for an expected six months
We will chronicle our trip in here compliments of Travelfish Admin who ha ...
