If you're a first time visitor to Vietnam, we'll point you to the Ha Long Bay thread for points to keep in mind when selecting the right Ha Long Bay tour for you. If you've questions about a potential itinerary, do take a look at the itinerary section of the site as well. We'll also apologise in advance for the persistent spamming by Vietnam-based travel agents -- we do try to delete them as quickly as they come in. Sorry!

WARNING: re Ha Long Bay cruise touts Sticky!

Posted by somtam2000 on 22/12/2009 at 13:32

We're having ongoing issues banning accounts that belong to Vietnamese travel agents that are spamming the forum pretending to be customers either asking for advice or supposedly giving advice regarding boat tours on Ha Long Bay. The boats most commonly touted are: Columbus Bhaya Phoenix I would treat any comments or advice given concerning any of the above operators with EXTREME CAUTION -- especially if it is from a relatively new site member. As far as I am concerned, if a business ...

A week in Saigon

Posted by madflava13 on 13/11/2017 at 18:56

I'm planning a trip for next year and we'll have a Marriott Cat. 5 certificate to use. Is a full week in Saigon too much? We loved Bangkok and could go back for another week, but it would be our third trip there. Saigon seemed like the only other good use for a cert. We considered Phu Quoc Island, but to us a beach is a beach and we can do that anywhere... The other option might be use the cert in Saigon, but leave Vietnam for 2 days to hit Angor Wat. Thoughts? Thanks in advance! ...

Ninh Binh and Mai Chau vs. Sapa

Posted by TanyaCollins on 4/10/2017 at 07:32

My husband and I had wanted to go from Hanoi to Sapa in January and do some trekking with the Hill tribes. While it sounds beautiful, we are concerned by the commercialization and hounding to purchase things. We are wondering if anyone has travelled to Mai Chau and Ninh Binh and how they compare to Sapa ? Would we still meet Hill tribe people? Is the scenery as stunning? Is there nice trekking? We only plan to stay one night either place. In Sapa we had planned to stay in a home stay ...

Vietnam - Teaching English on a Tourist Visa

Posted by hsoa on 7/6/2017 at 16:41

My information is out of date, but I know that it used to be easy for visitors on Tourist visas to get temporary work as English teachers in Vietnam, especially in HCM and Hanoi. Is this still the case? Are there lots of opportunities to work for 1-2 months? Is there a big risk of trouble with authorities? For working short term, would it be better to initially apply for a Business visa rather than a Tourist visa? Any help appreciated! Thanks. ...

Should we just hire a private driver/ car to go from Hue to Hoi Ann? If so , any idea of cost and any suggestion of a driver or company to contact? ...
