If you're a first time visitor to Vietnam, we'll point you to the Ha Long Bay thread for points to keep in mind when selecting the right Ha Long Bay tour for you. If you've questions about a potential itinerary, do take a look at the itinerary section of the site as well. We'll also apologise in advance for the persistent spamming by Vietnam-based travel agents -- we do try to delete them as quickly as they come in. Sorry!

WARNING: re Ha Long Bay cruise touts Sticky!

We're having ongoing issues banning accounts that belong to Vietnamese travel agents that are spamming the forum pretending to be customers either asking for advice or supposedly giving advice regarding boat tours on Ha Long Bay. The boats most commonly touted are: Columbus Bhaya Phoenix I would treat any comments or advice given concerning any of the above operators with EXTREME CAUTION -- especially if it is from a relatively new site member. As far as I am concerned, if a business ...

Hi, I'm somtam2000 and I'll be moderating the Travelfish travel board. I'm here to answer all your questions -- or at least the ones I know the answer to -- as for those that are mysteries to me, perhaps other Travelfish members will be able to answer. You'll see you need to be a member to post a new question or answer an existing one, but if you're already a Travelfish member, you don't need to join again. Your existing login works just fine. Can anyone please advise firstly if this seems doable? Also, whether Sapa or Phu Quoc would be better at this time of year? I've heard it can get qui ...

Vinh Moc tunnels from Hue

Posted by Trish177 on 29/6/2017 at 07:09

Hi, Has anyone visited the DMZ and Vinh Moc tunnels from Hue recently? I can only find old posts and wanted to get some advice on whether to go with a full on tour (but have heard these can be long hours on a bus with not so much time to visit each site), or whether to just hire a private car or bike and just do the tunnels? Any recommendations for tours appreciated. ...

Overcharging of Foreigners in Vietnam is a chronic issue

Posted by martini on 14/6/2017 at 20:29

The Nexy hostel in Hanoi deserves its hight rating. However, a note of significant concern: I advise strongly against booking trips, holiday packages, buses, taxis or tours through the reception desk at Nexy without thorough research and price comparisions with any of the myriad booking agents nearby, one of them less than 10 paces from Nexy. Nexy does not declare its extremely high markups - but believe me they are way, way too much. Walk across the road - 10 paces - to Bamboo travel - and ...

Danang train station to Hoi An

Posted by TerroirTravel on 16/2/2014 at 23:22

Hi, This seems to be a common trip, but I couldn't find any recent posts. I'm taking the train from Nha Trang to Danang, and would like to catch a bus down to Hoi An. I'm on the SE22, that gets to Danang around 7:00 am. I see a note on the Transport link to catch the bus on Le Duan street near the crossroads with the street opposite the train station (looks like that's Hoang Hoa Tram on my map). That was a 3 year old comment- is this still the case? Any other tips happily appreciated, thanks ...

North-east of Halong Bay up to the Chinese border at Móng Cái, along the QL 18 road

Posted by JurajBen on 22/5/2017 at 13:37

Hi there, I've tried to find a reading or a post regarding the info about the 145km stretch of land + islands from Halong Bay towards the Chinese border. Except the boat trips to Bai Tu Long Bay here isn't much so I thought I ask because I'd love to explore it up there this June. A little background to my question first. Last year I visited Halong Bay and stayed few nights in Cat Ba. While it felt like a bit more independent experience if compared to the fully organised by a tour operator, the ...

Vietnam - Teaching English on a Tourist Visa

Posted by hsoa on 7/6/2017 at 16:41

My information is out of date, but I know that it used to be easy for visitors on Tourist visas to get temporary work as English teachers in Vietnam, especially in HCM and Hanoi. Is this still the case? Are there lots of opportunities to work for 1-2 months? Is there a big risk of trouble with authorities? For working short term, would it be better to initially apply for a Business visa rather than a Tourist visa? Any help appreciated! Thanks. ...

I work fairly long hours with a multinationalfirm; language and cultural differences can be frustrating; air quality coulddefinitely improve; traffic seems to be getting worse; but I wouldn’t change athing!
