Vietnam forum

If you're a first time visitor to Vietnam, we'll point you to the Ha Long Bay thread for points to keep in mind when selecting the right Ha Long Bay tour for you. If you've questions about a potential itinerary, do take a look at the itinerary section of the site as well. We'll also apologise in advance for the persistent spamming by Vietnam-based travel agents -- we do try to delete them as quickly as they come in. Sorry!

WARNING: re Ha Long Bay cruise touts Sticky!

Posted by somtam2000 on 22/12/2009 at 13:32

We're having ongoing issues banning accounts that belong to Vietnamese travel agents that are spamming the forum pretending to be customers either asking for advice or supposedly giving advice regarding boat tours on Ha Long Bay. The boats most commonly touted are: Columbus Bhaya Phoenix I would treat any comments or advice given concerning any of the above operators with EXTREME CAUTION -- especially if it is from a relatively new site member. As far as I am concerned, if a business ...

Hi, I'm somtam2000 and I'll be moderating the Travelfish travel board. I'm here to answer all your questions -- or at least the ones I know the answer to -- as for those that are mysteries to me, perhaps other Travelfish members will be able to answer. You'll see you need to be a member to post a new question or answer an existing one, but if you're already a Travelfish member, you don't need to join again. Your existing login works just fine. Fish Pollution in Central Vietnam- safe to travel?

Posted by LucySK on 22/7/2016 at 12:14

I have been reading about the current (June 30th 2016) fish pollution situation happening in Central Vietnam. I was hoping someone who was recently there (June or July 2016) can let me know how safe it is to eat and travel in Hue, Da Nang, and Hoi An. I would hate to plan a trip about these cities and have to avoid seafood and the beaches. ...

trip report from ha giang from two independent ladies with no bikes!

Posted by melmariet on 28/2/2013 at 07:45

So we decided to create this post because we had such a problem finding good information about traveling in the ha giang province. We pretty much went on this adventure thinking, let's just take the dive and hope it works out. Good news! It did. With a little bit of hard work, you can travel through ha giang for quite cheap, without a guide, and without a motorcycle. First off, arranging your travel permit can be quite a bit trickier than we expected. Its extremely hard to find anyone who spea ...

Itinerary advice for 18 day trip

Posted by rachel275 on 8/6/2016 at 17:13

Hi folks, We have 18 full days in Vietnam in October (flying in to Ho Chi Min at night and out of Hanoi in the morning at the end). We are looking for some opinions on itinerary from people who have spent a bit of time in Vietnam. We are in our 40s, like a night out but not the backpacker party scene, don't fancy Sapa or Nha Trang. We both have some back issues so prolonged trekking and long bus or train journeys are out, but we can do a bit of both. Primarily we would like views on how ...

Hello all, My husband and I are traveling for a month in SEA starting early November. We've booked a few legs on our trip and are looking to fill in our itinerary. We are traveling with our ten month old and just aren't sure which locations within specific regions would be best for him. We are intentionally not booking rooms/tours with deposits because we are aware that traveling with a baby needs to be kept flexible. Luang Prabang - 11/10 - 11/16 Is it feasible to travel with a baby to Nong K ...
