Halong Bay tour & Hanoi accomodation

Posted by eklecticist on 7/6/2007 at 08:19

Hi all, I'll be arriving in Hanoi with 5 other friends on 24th June and we will be staying for a week. 1) We are planning to take a 3 days 2 nights Halong Bay tour (kayaking!) with Handspan and instead of making an online booking with them via the website, we have decided to book directly with them or through our guesthouse in case the tour is cheaper. (When I was in Phuket, the island hopping tours were much cheaper and negotiable when we booked it directly with the agencies at Patong be ...

I am going to be in Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos for the month of Oct. I am planning to stay in hostels but I have never stayed in a hostel before. I have a vague idea of what to expect but have a few questions. Should I book in advance or can I wing it? Do I need to bring my own bedding (ie sleeping bag or something of the sort)? And any other info people think might be helpful for a newbie. Thanks! ...

Facebook in Vietnam

Posted by KirstyB on 26/8/2011 at 18:57

I just heard that Facebook in Vietnam has been officially unblocked (not that I think it was ever "officially blocked" and a work around was often possible). I'm not in Vietnam so can't personally verify this but a sudden flurry of activity on FB by my Vietnamese friends seem to confirm this. Just need China to lift their block now. Hahaha ...

Hi guys, I'm currently in Chiang Mai and myself and a friend decided as a spur of the moment thing to go to Vietnam. We were looking at applying for a visa online but we're not sure which companies are real and if any are fakes as we don't want to pay the money and arrive to find we have no visa, or get completely over charged. We are travelling to Bangkok tonight on the sleeper train and staying in Bangkok 1 night before getting a bus to Siem Reap for 2-3 nights, Phnom Penh for 1 night ...

Feedback on Itinerary

Posted by lithium on 27/8/2011 at 23:41

I have five weeks to spend in Vietnam and Laos between November 19th and December 26th. Still not sure which I'll be visiting first, how much time I'll be spending in each country and if I'll be doing Vietnam north to south or vice versa. My trip will start and end in Bangkok. I can afford to spend up to USD 100 on flights within Vietnam itself but don't mind overnight train rides. Would like to limit bus trips to a maximum of 6hrs each. My rough itinerary for Vietnam is very similar to everyon ...

Da Nang Airport to Hoi An by bus

Posted by AGRO on 19/8/2011 at 20:31

Hi We will be landing in Da Nang around 11 30am and would like to take the bus straight to Hoi An as it's a much cheaper option than a taxi. Wikitravel says that there are frequent buses for 15 000 or so from the inter-city bus station but I was wondering how to get to the station from the airport? Or..... I heard there may be a cheap shuttle bus from the airport? ...

Open Tour Bus ticket Hoi An to Nha Trang

Are they pretty much all the same or not? Also I guess the same question would go for Nha Trang to HCMC Thanks! ...

Bad experiences Hanoi and Sapa

Posted by Pernette on 13/3/2009 at 20:48

In Hanoi we got in a taxi with a corrupt taxidriver, his meter was running twice as we were really driving and when we wanted to stop, the driver threatened us with a stick. He wanted the money for the distance he had already driven (20.000 dong for 500 meter). There were 3 hotels with the same name in a row in Hanoi. We had booked one and the one we walked in said we had to wait until 8 am before we could get the room with window for 15 dollar (which they also said in a reservation e-mail) ...

Holidays, festivals, December & January

Posted by UsTwo on 21/8/2011 at 14:54

We arrive in Saigon on 13th December, and depart Hanoi on 16th January. Are there any Holidays or Festivals we should be aware of during that time, that may affect our accommodation or travel? Our plan is Saigon - Mekong - Vung Tau/Nui Dat - Da Lat - Nha Trang - Buon Ma Thuot - Pleiku - Qui Nhon - Hoi An - DaNang - Hue - Hanoi - Sapa - Ha Long. We are very flexible, and realise that this is a very optimistic itinerary. The only absolutes are Mekong, Vung Tau/Nui Dat, Buon Ma ...

Me and my girlfriend are travelling to Cambodia and through Vietnam in december and january. I have a few questions regarding the trip and our initerary? Getting a visa for Vietnam in Norway is expensive, and we're staying a few nights i Sihanoukville before entering Vietnam, and I've read that getting visas here is cheap and easy through the vietnamese cosulate. Will this be a problem between 23. and 25. december? (If it is, what about 25-27?) We're planning on entering Vietnamthrough t ...
