Hi, I am traveling through the north of Vietnam for three weeks, starting and finishing my trip from Hanoi, I wonder if it's better to star from Hanoi-Sapa and going down or Hanoi-Halong bay and going up. Please let me know whats more convenient. If I have some time left I might go to Hue or Hoi An. Many thanks, Regards, Emma ...

e-visa to Vietnam

Posted by madambovary1975 on 20/8/2018 at 22:53

Hi, I would like to ask if someone has used the e-visa to Vietnam and if you had any issues or still had to queue at the airport. I contacted the embassy in London and they told me that they are not affiliated to any online portal for visa and the only official place to apply for visa in the embassy. Many thanks ...

Complete novice on first solo trip anywhere - help!

Posted by martynhaigh on 8/4/2018 at 03:51

Hey, I've booked a 2.5 week solo trip to Vietnam starting May 2nd and I'm looking for advice. As the title says, I've never travelled solo before (actually never been outside the western world before) so I've no idea what to expect. I land in Hanoi and have booked a private room at the Central backpackers hostel Old quarter for a few nights whilst I find my feet, but then haven't planned anything else before my flight out from HCM. I'm a 39 year old guy from England who's not particularly ...

Posted by thaorosellazulab on 5/4/2018 at 03:21

In coming August, my family has a vacation in Vietnam. Now I cannot give the fixed time but maybe we'll spend about 2-3 weeks for the journey in Vietnam. Specific number of days depends on my husband's work. We're very excited about cruises through islands. Following are our itinerary for 2 weeks. + 4 days: Hanoi + 3 days: Halong cruise (Any ferries or high-quality cruises take us to Lan Ha Bay, Cat Ba??) + 1 day: Back Hanoi and take a train/bus to Sapa (Train or bus? In search of a great beach to visit in Vietnam - end of April

Posted by mtbakerstu on 15/3/2018 at 18:29

Hello Forum Members, I'm planning a trip to Vietnam at the end of April, and wanted to get any input you may have on where I could go for a few days to be on the beach. I'm partial to a beach village that has great, warm water waves for body surfing, and a mellow, indigenous beach scene- not overly developed. Any input super appreciated. I'm looking south for the warmest waters. Thanks, Mtbakerstu ...

Mekong delta recommendations

Posted by Triblim on 16/3/2018 at 23:21

Hi there We're on Phu Quoc and not enjoying it (it's noisy and crowded) but don't fly out from Saigon until 29th March. So considering making our way to Saigon via the Mekong delta and hoping for some ideas on the best way to do this. We want to avoid busy places as much as possible; we need some peace and quiet, or as much as that's possible in Vietnam! Thank you Karen and Kev ...

Looking to travel to Vietnam in February.

Posted by BuzzmFrog84 on 21/12/2017 at 16:10

Hi everyone. As I said, February looks like the month that will be best for me to travel. I'm looking to spend about a month abroad. In 2015 I spent a month in Thailand but I don't have much other experience with Southeast Asia. How is the month of February when it comes to Vietnam? I should have $3000 usd to spend but if I could spend less, I wouldn't be against that. All I've heard is that Vietnam is beautiful so I don't even know where to start! Could someone help me plan a route? I heard ...

Vietnam visa scam at airports?

Posted by KirstyB on 29/12/2017 at 02:20

Not a question per se, but more a cautionary tale. This could be a case of airline staff incompetency, but it seems more likely that it’s yet another Vietnam visa scam… What happens: As you check in for your flight, check-in staff are telling passengers who are eligible for 15 days visa free on arrival that they need a visa in advance. They then put you in contact with a travel company that can sort this out and charge up to US$200 for the privilege. I came across this via this blog post a ...

5 weeks in Vietnam with a 4 year old

Posted by Ramalhoto on 22/12/2017 at 06:03

Hello to all We will be heading to Vietnam from mid-January, and we will stay there for 5 weeks before heading to Cambodia, actually we have a 90 days visa in Vietname, so if we want we can stay longer in Vietname. When we arrive we will stay 10 days in Hanoi. Then we are thinking of heading south. We are 2 adults and a 4-year-old child, so we want to take a slow pace. We are finding different places where we can stay for longer and make day trips to places nearby. One of the places we were thin ...

Independant transport from Mui Ne/Phan Thiet to Ke Ga lighthouse

Posted by Kametkamet on 18/12/2017 at 10:14

Hi Travelfish community! I need your help as I couldn't find answers to my questions over the Internet. I would really like to travel from Mui Ne or Phan Thiet to the Ke Ga Lighthouse independantly along the coast, stopping when I want to. BUT, i can't drive a motorcycle by myself. My question is, is it possible to do it by riding a bicycle, and if so, how long would it take? OR, is it possible to hire a motorbike with a driver for a day at a reasonable price (a Xe Om maybe?)? I woul ...

Phu Quoc to Sihanoukville by bus & boat

Posted by CraignGem on 1/12/2017 at 05:55

Hello Travelfish community!! I posted here once or twice before my backpacking days but i'm now the one booking people's holidays! I have a client who is travelling to Vietnam in Jan/Feb and is looking to get from Phu Quoc to Sihanoukville independently. I can see that there are lots of people posting about a bus/boat combination which takes most of the day. This is good enough information however nowhere seems to show which days the service runs. From backpacking myself I don't recall having ...

A week in Saigon

Posted by madflava13 on 13/11/2017 at 18:56

I'm planning a trip for next year and we'll have a Marriott Cat. 5 certificate to use. Is a full week in Saigon too much? We loved Bangkok and could go back for another week, but it would be our third trip there. Saigon seemed like the only other good use for a cert. We considered Phu Quoc Island, but to us a beach is a beach and we can do that anywhere... The other option might be use the cert in Saigon, but leave Vietnam for 2 days to hit Angor Wat. Thoughts? Thanks in advance! ...
