Posted by bleucheese on 26/1/2010 at 08:40

Oops I pushed enter by mistake. Here is my question- I will be traveling to Vietnam with my girlfriend from February 12 - February 22. I have read that I must book train and/or air tickets in advance since TET will be swarming with travelers. Is there a reliable agency that I can do this with now or should I wait until I arrive? Thanks BC ...

fraudolent cyclo drivers

Posted by Gimarischi on 24/1/2010 at 17:33

Pay attention when in Saigon, if you are contacted by cyclo drivers, they propose you a trip at a low price (e.g. 15.000 dong), but when arriving at your destination they require a sum many times bigger(450.000 dong that is 25$) shouting and complainting, showing you a leaflet with blow up prices. At that point you can only pay. I have given 10 dollars for two cyclos, not withoout complaints. ...

Travel Partners needed March

Posted by MiniJojo on 27/1/2010 at 18:07

Hi, Im travelling to Vietnam in March with my husband, and we are trying to book a tour to Halong bay 2D/1N. After reading a million reviews and checking through various info We have found an interesting tour company called catbaventures. Read some really good reviews here on TA and on a few other sites. Its a private tour company that starts the tour from Cat BA island. The tour can be tailored and apparently they visit less touristy sites. There are 2 of us travelling and the boat can fit ...

Ben Tre Mekong Delta

Posted by oscarcat on 27/1/2010 at 10:47

Arrived yesterday by Mai Lionh Express from HCMC 56k VND very good service. However! Floating barge restaurant has floated off reducing the already limited eating options, seems to be little activity in terms of boat trips on river, our Hotel, Hung Vuong, offers a 4 hr trip but no evidence of boats for hire near mkt. Also the Bird Sanctuary @ Vam Ho apparently closed 2 months ago after a flood (the birds don't roost there anymore we were told - or they've all been eaten lol). So there is now pr ...

Is mid-March still high season in southern Vietnam?

Posted by Mikko on 21/1/2010 at 18:33

I searched the Vietnam forum briefly and didn't find a clear answer for my question, so sorry in advance if I'm repeating a question that's been asked a million times already :) Me and my girlfriend will be spending some 3,5 weeks somewhere between Bangkok and HCMC in May (flying from HCMC to Kuala Lumpur at the end of the month), and I'd like to know whether booking accommodation in advance due to high season is advisable in some of the places. Is mid-march still high season in southern ...

Honeymoon in 'nam?

Posted by aman218 on 25/1/2010 at 00:19

I've just spent a couple of months travelling around Thailand, Laos and Cambodia and loved it. Didn't get a chance to go to Vietnam but with my fast approaching wedding (in August), was wondering if you guys could recommend any places for a honeymoon in Vietnam? Warning: ferry fire from Phu Quoc to Ha Tien

Posted by mulaohu on 14/1/2010 at 15:07

We took the 08:30 hydrofoil leaving from Phu Quoc to Ha Tien. Shortly after leaving Phu Quoc, we smelled smoke in the cabin. We noticed the crew members moving about on the outside of the boat, but it was until the door inadvertently opened to the engine room that we saw the dense black smoke coming from within. One of the boat's engines had caught on fire. When the fire was eventually extinguished, the crew told us that they would continue on with just one engine - this despite our vo ...

Problems with Columbus Cruises

Posted by Rohan on 5/1/2010 at 08:56

I am now waiting to be picked up by Columbus. About 3 months ago, I booked a 3 day trip on the Pinta Gold. 4 days ago, I received an email stating that the Pinta Gold was in for repairs (I note from other posters this seems to have happened all too often lately), and offering the same itinerary in the Pinta. I accepted this. Last night I received a phone call telling me I would be at the resort for one night. I reacted angrily to this as this was not what I booked. While I type this, ...

Golden Sun Hotel II, Hanoi

Posted by jessebear on 20/1/2010 at 01:19

We stayed at the Golden Sun Hotel 2 (I think there are 3 or 4 now) and we were very happy. The room was large and the staff was very nice. Breakfast was good and the location was great--in the middle of the Old Quarter. The only negative was that they promised us they would book tickets for us to a water puppet show, but by the time they called, it was sold out for days and there was nothing we could do. They were extremely helpful otherwise! ...
