Sapa and trekking gear

Posted by Pokol on 16/10/2009 at 01:05

Hi, Stupid question but important since it is a lot of extra weight in my backpack. I've been told for Sapa at this time of the year it is good to bring with you trekking shoes because of the rain. Does anybody think something like this is too much? http://www.rubberimpex.com/images/Partners/TrekkingShoes/SportsShoesHikingShoesTrekkingShoesDT.JPG Or should it be fine with sport shoes like this? http://www.rubberimpex.com/images/Partners/TrekkingShoes/SportsShoesHikingShoesTrekking ...

Posted by justwondering on 9/9/2009 at 07:18

Hi, sorry, hopefully my last inane question... I'm keen to get the train from Hue to Danang as i gather it's a lovely trip, but how much of a palaver is it hooking up with a mini bus or taxi or whatever from Danang train station to Hoi An? I guess the key question is how much should we be expecting to pay for the trip to Hoi An? ...

With all right to hate Americans, wondering where things honestly stand near 40 years later. thanks for any/all words. ...

BEWARE - China Visas in Hanoi

Posted by buddsabroaad on 14/4/2009 at 12:42

We just got back from the Chinese Embassy in Hanoi where we were denied a tourist visa. We were told that a new regulation, enacted within the past month, does not allow Hanoi to issue tourist visas, only working visas. We were told that we had to go to Ho Chi Minh City to get a tourist visa. We are from the US, but others from UE countries were getting the same story. Oh well, I guess it's on to Thailand... ...

More than 100,000 in Vietnam flee from Typhoon Ketsana

Posted by somtam2000 on 29/9/2009 at 12:11

CNA is reporting that over 100,000 people have been evacuated from coastal central Vietnam in anticipation of Typhoon making landfall. As of 0200 GMT, Typhoon Ketsana was centred about 130km east-southeast of Da Nang and was moving west towards central Vietnam at about 12km/h. I'd guess this bodes ill for Hoi An which tends to flood very easily. There are also other reports that boats in Ha Long Bay are currently not running, though it is unclear if this is due to weather concerns or ...
