Taxi or scooter for 6 months in HCMC

Posted by dooky on 29/2/2016 at 08:34

Hi all, I will be staying in Ho Chi Minh City for 6 months with 2 classmates. We have app. 7-8 km from the apartment to where we will work, but is unsure if we should make some sort of taxi arrangement or if we should rent a scooter and go on our own. The implications of being involved in an accident looks a bit severe with high prison sentences. Does anyone know what a trip by taxi from district 2 to district 9 (8 km) will cost? Perhaps some sort of permanent arrangement if possible. Than ...

Vietnam in June

Posted by tagotra on 20/2/2016 at 03:37

Hello fellow travellers! My wife and I (in late 20s - from India) want to visit Vietnam in first week of June for 10-12 days. Ideally, we would like to cover Sapa, Hanoi, Halong Bay Cruise, Hoi An and Saigon (HCMC), but I read up at several places that June is the high domestic crowd season, and almost all places will be very hot. May I have your valuable feedback on what places in North, Central and South are best suited for a vacation in first week of June that't not unbearably hot and not ...

Nam Du homestay

Posted by Potbellypirate on 25/2/2016 at 16:37

Hello fellow travellers! My husband and I are in the early stages of planning a trip to vietnam and love the idea of visiting somewhere a little less touristy than the major sites. I saw in the recent newsletter the article on nam du, and I think this place looks fantastic. Definitley suits our style of travel - fresh seafood, ocean breeze, and no major hotel behemoths in sight. Seeing as my husband and I don't speak a scrap of vietnamese does anyone know if any of the guesthouses or homestay ...

Phong Nha-Ke Bang - Dark Cave

Posted by tigershoot on 15/2/2016 at 06:35

As part of a three week trip my wife and I are going to visit Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park. One thing that I fancy doing is the dark cave trip, lots of mud, zip lines etc! I reckon on hiring a scooter and doing this trip myself. My wife doesn't fancy it as she hates heights, and wouldn't fancy the cave either! Does anyone know if you can go to this place and simply enjoy kayaking and relaxing rather than doing all the adventurous stuff? Why I ask, is that if she can't, then I need to find a ...

Should I pay for visa, or is 15 days enough in Vietnam

Hi After 2 months in Thailand and nearly a month in Laos, we have 2 and a half months left before we head to Myanmar. I was planning on a month in Cambodia, then taking advantage of the 15 day period that UK Citizens can spend in Vietnam without a visa then heading to Thailand again for the final month. Question is, am I just being tight not wanting to pay out for a visa for Vietnam and risk missing/rushing Vietnam because of this? I did think if we wanted to stay longer after the 15 days we cou ...

Cai Be to Chau Doc

Posted by Josha on 5/2/2016 at 19:30

Is it possible to travel via boat / river / water way by boat (from Cai Be or Can Tho) to Chau Doc? We would then continue via fast boat to PP. Most tours put everyone on a bus for this part of the river. I would like to travel on the river to slow down and enjoy the scenery. It does not have to be luxury / commercial. On local transport or hitching a ride sounds good. Is this worth while ? Thanks in Advance ...

Vietnam Visa Changes - Urgent Advice Please!!

Posted by numan99 on 7/7/2015 at 05:54

On July 1st 2015 Vietnam changed its visa regulations to give exemptions to travelers from a few countries including the UK. I'm currently in Phnom Penh and am planning on traveling overland via coach in the next couple of days. When I last checked I thought I was going to need to get a visa from the embassy here in order to cross into Vietnam but, being a UK passport holder, it seems like this is no longer the case? Can someone please confirm this as I don't want to get turned away at the b ...
