Halong Bay: Tourist trap or worthwhile travel experience?

Posted by sdevlin on 20/2/2009 at 08:03

I'm heading to Vietnam in a few months and though I'll be there for three weeks, I wonder whether I should spend time doing the Halong Bay circuit. I'm thinking My Tho, Ben Tre, Vihn Long incl homestay, Can Tho and then up to Chau Doc and onwards to Cambodia. Is it only overland or can most of it be done on boat? Any help would be great ...
