Another Vietnam itinerary - Reunification day

Posted by kalistamin441 on 10/1/2015 at 01:26

Hi All! I told myself I wouldn't do this (post an itinerary review query), however I'm concerned about the period we'll be in Vietnam, as we'll be getting to Saigon during a week where there are several public holidays/special events leading up to a weekend, and I've read that travel will be difficult. Am hoping that if we book travel/accomm early (i.e. now) we will be okay. So would love your thoughts on the below. We have around 3 weeks and can't travel earlier than these dates. We've given ...

Hi there, I am looking to travel as above and hoping someone might have some recent info & advice. My questions are: Are all buses to Ha Tien via Rach Gia or is there a direct line? What is the current cost & travel time? I will be travelling with my 10 year old son, is Ha Tien or Rach Gia a better place to over night before crossing the border? Or is it feasible to push on over the border and get to Kampot in a day? I was thinking of hiring a moto for crossing the border and t ...

Buying a mobile/cell phone in Vietnam

Posted by RonaldBlaine on 7/1/2015 at 05:16

I'm in Vietnam for a month and need a mobile phone for the odd phone call and emergencies.I'm roughing it a bit so I'm not keen on taking my current phone. As the frequencies are the same in the UK and Vietnam I could buy an unlocked simple phone for $30 in the uk and load a local sim in Vietnam. Would it be easy to buy a phone in Vietnam with a one month package for a similar price? Also if you buy a phone is it unlocked. I like the idea of a dual sim phone for use when I get back to the UK as ...

Travelling by motorbike: good idea?

Posted by marianaamc on 27/10/2014 at 17:16

Me and my boyfriend traveled through Vietnam this last Summer. We loved it and want to comeback to see more. There were some places that we did not get to see at all or as much as we like and we felt that could be different if we rented a motorcycle. In some places like Ninh Binh we rented bicycles and was nice but that did not take us very far. We decided this time we wanted to see more of the North by motorcycle even though we have never ridden one before. In our minds it was fairly easy, ...

Hello, We are traveling to Vietnam/Cambodia in Jan for12-13 days. I realize this is not enough time for both countries, but we're not sure when we'll get back to the region and we'd like to see highlights for our first trip. We fly into Hanoi and out of Siem Reap. Originally, we have a lot packed into the itinerary, but now we think we need to hit certain places in Northern and central vietnam and only go to siem reap in Cambodia. I am cutting out Phnom Penh and HCMC from the trip (which ...

Does arriving w/o photo for Vietnam Visa on Arrival slow things?

Posted by Chilliano on 1/12/2014 at 20:50

I found an earlier thread from 2013, but rather than revive an old one, thought I'd start new. I understand that if I arrive at SGN without a photo, I can get it taken there for a $2 fee. My question is whether or not this adds an extra step, different line, or extra time to the process. The $2 fee is cheaper than getting new passports taken before my trip, but if arriving without a photo adds more time... well, I reckon I'll go get the pics in advance. So, advice? Is getting/paying for ph ...
