So we were quite surprised to find the train was $74 dollars each. This was v ...

Hello there! I will be spending a week in Vietnam this February and realized after booking plane tickets that I will be there over the Tet holiday. I will be there the 14th to the 21st. Miu Ne to Ho Chi minh during Tet

Hi, I plan to spend a month in Vietnam travelling from the north to the south. My flight into Hanoi is on the 26th Jan 2015 and I fly back out of Ho chi Minh on the 22nd Feb. Since booking I've realised the last week of my travelling will fall during Tet. I don't have any travel or accommodation booked as I'm a pretty 'fly by the seat of my pants' kinda guy, but having read some stories on the internet, travel during Tet seems to be quite problematic for some Having been to Ho Chi Minh before ...

Hello! I entered Vietnam on a 1 month tourist visa and quickly realized there's no way I can do everything I want in a month. I thought I could extend my visa but another tourist told me that the rules have recently changed and I need to leave the country and come back. I asked a couple travel agencies and they said I could extend, and seemed to no l know nothing of this new change. But when I asked the hostel, they said extensions were no longer possible, and to just rent a motorbike, cross in ...

Another Vietnam itinerary - Reunification day

Posted by kalistamin441 on 10/1/2015 at 01:26

Hi All! I told myself I wouldn't do this (post an itinerary review query), however I'm concerned about the period we'll be in Vietnam, as we'll be getting to Saigon during a week where there are several public holidays/special events leading up to a weekend, and I've read that travel will be difficult. Am hoping that if we book travel/accomm early (i.e. now) we will be okay. So would love your thoughts on the below. We have around 3 weeks and can't travel earlier than these dates. We've given ...

Hi there, I am looking to travel as above and hoping someone might have some recent info & advice. My questions are: Are all buses to Ha Tien via Rach Gia or is there a direct line? What is the current cost & travel time? I will be travelling with my 10 year old son, is Ha Tien or Rach Gia a better place to over night before crossing the border? Or is it feasible to push on over the border and get to Kampot in a day? I was thinking of hiring a moto for crossing the border and t ...

Buying a mobile/cell phone in Vietnam

Posted by RonaldBlaine on 7/1/2015 at 05:16

I'm in Vietnam for a month and need a mobile phone for the odd phone call and emergencies.I'm roughing it a bit so I'm not keen on taking my current phone. As the frequencies are the same in the UK and Vietnam I could buy an unlocked simple phone for $30 in the uk and load a local sim in Vietnam. Would it be easy to buy a phone in Vietnam with a one month package for a similar price? Also if you buy a phone is it unlocked. I like the idea of a dual sim phone for use when I get back to the UK as ...
