Homestays

Posted by Morganj24 on 15/9/2014 at 08:59

I'm currently researching for my SE Asia trip next year. Reading through the Lonely Planet SE Asia on a shoestring book and I'm liking the idea of getting involved in a homestay within each country just so I can fully immerse myself in the culture. The first homestay recommendation I have come across in the book is no more I've had a Google but am reluctant to go with anything that I've not had recommended. So if anyone can recommend any homestay throughout SE Asia let me know. Thanks in adva ...

I need to go to the Tay Ho district and need to know how far this is from where we will get off the us. Also, can someone tell me how much in RMB it is for the ticket? Thanks. ...

Feedback with 8-Day Northern Vietnam Itinerary

Posted by frugalvan on 27/8/2014 at 22:13

Hubby and I are travelling to Vietnam and Cambodia for 20 days. We are allocating 8 days towards Northern Vietnam and are struggling piece together the optimal itinerary. Would like to receive feedback from TA travellers whether the itinerary below is too aggressive. Flights are already booked so the total number of days is inflexible. However, the order in which we visit these cities is still flexible since hotels, trains, tours, etc are not yet booked. Travelling from Oct 12 to Oct 20: Day ...

1 Month N-->S Vietnam

Posted by DicoR on 2/9/2014 at 06:15

Hello, Probably somewhere in April we (2pers.) are planning to explore Vietnam, starting in the northern part and eventually ending up in the south to cross the border into Cambodia. We are thinking about spending around 1 month in Vietnam. There are already some places I know we will probably visit: Hanoi Ha Long Bay ....? Da Nang Hue Hoi An .....? Ho Chi Minh Mekong Delta? To be honest, I've not done a lot of research for this trip yet. So there are probably numerous other nice places. Coul ...

10 days in Southern Vietnam - help with itinerary

Posted by Bluefly on 5/8/2014 at 23:27

We are flying into HCMC for 10 days in southern Vietnam in October 2014. I've done lots of web browsing and I'm so overloaded with options! I'm not sure whether to squeeze as much as we can in, or take it slow and limit the trip to 3-4 destinations. I'm travelling with my partner, we're in our early 30's and would like to experience a bit of everything - markets, natural beauty, local customs & landmarks, beaches, nightlife, hustle and bustle - and serenity. Not much to ask! We are wonder ...

Arriving late in HCMC/Hotel advice

Posted by brilliantjoy on 5/5/2014 at 22:13

Hi, I will be traveling as a solo female in Vietnam min mid-June. Unfortunately, my flight doesn't arrive in HCMC until 1:00 a.m. After going through immigration/ customs and getting my bag, I'm assuming that it will be more like 2:00 ish before I am ready to leave the airport. I want to find a safe way to get to the hotel without dealing with the chaos of taxi service. I have not booked a hotel yet, but can anyone recommend me a hotel that is mid-range and reputable preferably in District ...

Two Weeks in Vietnam - Some Thoughts

Posted by thailen on 20/8/2014 at 01:40

Two weeks aren't enough to cover the entire country, so we concentrated on Hanoi (6 days), CentraL Coast(3 days) and Saigon(4 days). Ha Long Bay is a must and we did 2 days,1 night cruise on Cristina Cruise($110 pp). I've read the same cruise is available at $73pp, so maybe you can get it that cheap if you do the research. Excellent meals, beautiful cabin, quite satisfied. Didn't like the main Hanoi market - sales clerks were rude ("Don't touch"!) prices not as cheap as you think ...

Hello fellow travelers, I am traveling to Vietnam (and possibly Cambodia) during August/September for 26 days. I am traveling solo and am mostly interested in natural beauty, adventure, meeting other like minded travelers, etc. I was thinking of the following itinerary and would love feedback with whether I should just concentrate on Vietnam or try to add Cambodia in too. Hanoi : 3 days Sapa / Bac Ha : 3 days Halong Bay/Cat Ba Island: 3 days Ninh B: 2 days Phong Na: 1 day Hue: ...

Feedback Hanoi-Halong Bay july 2014

Posted by teeterouge on 6/8/2014 at 04:01

We went with some friends who had small kids (2 and 5 years old). It was supposed to be the rainy seasons, which we saw on the day after our arrival, a whole day of heavy rain, then it got dry for a few days en really hot. In Hanoi actually no one is walking in the streets, everyone is on a motor bike even for short trips. We ended up taking taxis (easy to find) for relatively short walks as it's quite tiring to slalom between the pavement where motorbikes are parked and the roadside where t ...

One month working remotely from Vietnam, itinerary critiques?

Posted by saryant on 28/7/2014 at 23:39

So, my company allows me to work remotely one month a year from anywhere in the world and I'm thinking about spending it in Vietnam next year. Probably Jan/Feb 2015 (though before Tet). I'd still be working during part of the day. Given that, my plan is to stick to just a few places over the month. FWIW, this will be my first trip to Vietnam but not the region, I spent two months backpacking around Thailand and Malaysia two years ago. I've also spent time in India so I understand what trave ...

GoAsiaTravel.com & Alova Cruises in Vietnam- has anyone used them?

Posted by baza on 3/8/2014 at 21:44

Hi I am planning a trip for our family of 2 adults and 4children to Vietnam and we have limited time while there. I found a company that will organise hotel pickup and drop off, Hanoi hotels, a trip to Sapa and Halong Bay (on Alova Cruises.com -which their website says they are the 'licensed tour operator and owner of'), thereby saving us a lot of time by organising these 2 excursions from Hanoi (in a 7 day/6 night package). I wonder if anyone has had any experience of Go Asia Traveland/or ...

Anyone take the Ha Long Cruise With Aclass Junk?

Posted by thailen on 27/7/2014 at 04:26

We're thinking of signing up with WaytoVietnam tour operator for a 2 day/1 night cruise. The price is pretty cheap - $95/per person. The next best price is $125/pp. on a cruise recommended by our hotel. Anyone have direct or indirect experience? The photos look great for both boats, but who knows how accurate they really are? ...

Custom made ao dai and other Vietnamese women's clothing in HCMC (or Can Tho) for a man.

Posted by man_in_ao_dai on 21/7/2014 at 21:42

Hi. I'll be in Southern Vietnam (HCMC, Can Tho, Mekong Delta) in a few months. I'm wondering if anyone here can recommend a tailor who can make ao dai for a reasonable price (decent quality, but not too expensive). Would it be real silk? How much for one of those pretty plain white ones ? What about colored ones? The thing is, I'm a man. But I do want to get a regular women's ao dai. Would this cause any issues? Also, can one get a yem made (traditional Vietnamese women's undergarment)? How much ...

Vietnam VOA Question

Hi All, This may be a stupid question, but I cant seem to find information anywhere online. While the Vietnam VOA is only possible to use for entry the at the airport, if you pay for a multi-entry visa approval letter, once you pay the stamping fee in Hanoi/HCMC, can you then leave and re-enter by land? Or is the visa of this type only usable for airport entries??? Thanks for the advice!! ...

Touring in the north of Vietnam, you could have some nights staying with local people such as Thai in Maichau, white Thai in Phu Yen, Black Thai in Yen Bai, Dzao in Thac Ba Lake, Tay in Babe national park, Nung in Cao Bang just near Ban Gioc waterfall - the most beautiful one in the north of Vietnam. With the basic conditions but the welcome & the foods are exceptionals , you will surely have unforgetable souvenirs of the lifetime! http://motorbiketoursasia.com ...
