Opinions on this proposed Vietnam Trip

1. Arrive in Hanoi via flight from Bangkok and spend 2 nights there 3. Sleeper train to Sa Pa, stay there for a few days then back to Hanoi 4. Then a bus to Ha Long Bay and get a tour there and stay maybe 1/2 nights before returning to Hanoi 5. Then get the sleeper train down along the coast stopping at Hoi An and Nha Trang for a couple of days each 6. Arrive at HCMC and spend 3 days there and then get a flight back to Bangkok Is this a good plan? Cheers ...

Local SE Asia Flights into Hanoi

Posted by NFT_Terrorist on 21/5/2014 at 05:57

I am doing an 8 week volunteering program working with an NGO in Hanoi that starts July 7th. I have decided to flying into Bangkok two weeks beforehand, June 23rd and do some travelling around the region before my programme begins. So far I am planning to fly from Bangkok to Hanoi July 6th with Air Asia, the flights are only 50 euro one way and this seems to be a reasonable deal. However I am pretty set on going to Siem Reap for Angkor Wat and this would mean having to return to Thailand ...

Hi, my girlfriend is an American citizen but born in China and of Chinese ethnicity. She will be traveling alone through HCMC to Hanoi for a week and a half and I just wanted to gauge whether or not she will be safe, or face any violence or harassment due to the recent protests and anti-Chinese conflicts. Thanks ...

Sinh Cafe Transport

Posted by David_Flick on 3/1/2012 at 01:26

Hi Everyone Me and my GF are in Hanoi atm, and are plotting our way down 'Nam with the usual stops of Hue, Hoi An, Mui Ne and HCMC. We have been recommended the open-tour bus system, in particular, a company called Sinh Cafe Travel- they're also reviewed by Lonely Planet and Rough Guide. Has anyone used this company, and if so, could they tell me if they are any good? Mostly I just want to know if our bags will be safe on an overnight bus, (or at least as safe as they ever can be in Asia!!) ...

Motorbiking the north in May...advisable?

Posted by cbg0927 on 8/5/2014 at 23:58

In Luang Prabang now. Have plans to leave towards Oudomxay tomorrow and up to the Tay Trang border crossing to enter Vietnam. Would love to see Sapa region before heading south. Is it foolish to do this on a motorbike at this time of year because of rain? If Sapa is not advisable, I'd probably head for the Na Mao border crossing instead and skip out on Hanoi/the far north altogether. I'd greatly appreciate any advice you could offer me! ...

Info for U.S. citizens getting a Vietnam Visa in the U.S.

Posted by bianco on 30/4/2010 at 08:37

Here is some info for U.S. citizens looking to get a Vietnam visa before arrival in the U.S. My girlfriend and I are going to Vietnam in July. We decided to send in our visa applications early after reading about all the trouble other people have had. We decided to use the San Francisco Consulate rather than the embassy in D.C. because we live 45mins away. How it went down: Went to bank and got a single money order for $170 or $85/per person. We then went to the post office and bought a ...

Egg Coffee. Is it a Vietnam invention

Posted by johnandterry on 19/3/2014 at 21:17

It was the first time I've been to VN, and the time was so limited that I can't visit many places, especially the north of VN. I only have time to wander around Saigon and Vungtau, some places nearby. My friend in VN always said that was a lost I didn't get the chance to go visit Hanoi, cuz there are lots of special dishes there, and I was like what, I ate lots and lots of incredible food here in saigon, can it be anything greater? As I'm a real foodie, it was a regret I didn't visit VN longer. ...

where to from Nha Trang?

Posted by Yorkshire_Kiwi on 9/5/2014 at 09:50

ok, we have up to 3 months in Vietnam, we've spent a relaxing time in Phu Quoc, a fantastic week in HCMC, an interesting 4 days in Dalat then moving on to Nha Trang tomorrow. We've been looking at where to next but can't really see anything until Da Nang/ HoiAn area. Is there anything in-between that's worth stopping off at? We love the culture, nature and history side of things, not too bothered about the partying! Cheers in advance ...

Hi I'm wondering if anyone can help or offer any advice?? I am going to vietnam with my cousin start of July to mid August (around 16 days) flying in and out of hoi chi minh city. We were thinking it may be best to stick to the south and central rather than trying to do north to south and rush, can anyone recommend the best places and things not to miss? We are very keen to do war related stuff, a boat trip, cooking class, spa/massage and a home stay. Any advice about hotels etc would also be ap ...

Road from Nha Trang to Dalat

Posted by claire87uk on 21/4/2014 at 06:49

Hi all, we are going on honeymoon to Vietnam in 3 weeks, and will be staying in Hanoi for 2 nights then Nha Trang for 10. I thought we might break up the stay in Nha Trang by going to Dalat for 2 nights. I have a question about the new road between the two - we will probably take the bus - does the road have a lot of steep drops on the edges/barriers? I know this seems trivial but I had a scary experience elsewhere in a coach on a high up mountain road and not sure I can cope with my fear of ...

Stranded in Tam Dao hellhole! urgent advice please!

Posted by Flowertot on 22/4/2014 at 04:45

If anyone familiar with the area can help. I will be so grateful! Basically, my volunteer placement in the area went pear shaped and I had to strike out on my own. Have landed up in Tam Dao which I thought was a town but is actually a tiny village. It is swathed in the thickest fog I have ever seen and the fog has been seeping into the whole hotel and my room for 2 days. Everything including my sheets are damp, and water is pooling on the floor. It is too foggy to even venture out to explore. Ca ...

Hi, I do apologise for any silly questions but I am in the very early stages of planning a solo trip leaving mid July and back mid August and I have never done anything like this before. Firstly before I ask for your much needed advice i'll tell you what kind of trip I'd like.... Fairly relaxed, not too much rushing around, spontaneous but safe. I will be alone but i'm desperate to lose my habit of over planning trips. I would love a fair bit of beach time. I need to keep the trip fairly cheap ...

Hoi An - Warning - Stay away from Lin Lin tailors!

Posted by bretandgerri on 21/3/2010 at 16:14

I have been royally ripped-off in Hoi An by Lin Lin tailors (22 Tran Phu St, opposite the market). Partly my naivety; I broke my golden rule and didn't shop around, but went straight there and was sucked in by the gorgeous sweet kind sales lady (who strangely wouldn't give her name!) got measured up for a bunch of stuff, which she was vague about the price of, and then she told me these 6 items would come to $380 US!!! I just about died. She let me off with $330, and I stupidly paid a deposit, ...
