Weather question - central Vietnam October

Posted by dixharp on 3/6/2014 at 06:25

Has anybody spent any time in the central coastal region of vietnam in October? All the guides say this is the time of the highest rainfall, with storms and possibly typhoons. On a continuum from 1. the old cliche a 20-minute shower once a day then it's fine to 2. chucking it down without cease for weeks on end - how wet is it please? ...

Safes, lockers, and rooms: How secure are they?

Posted by SoloGirls on 24/1/2014 at 23:58

So this seems to be a concern I keep returning to. I will be traveling alone and also have to work while I'm on vacation. This means I will have a lot of gadgets with me - including an expensive camera and lenses. In considering where I want to stay, the most important thing after cleanliness, is: will my stuff get stolen. Now I know there is no 100% way to prevent this. I am going to be staying in budget hotels. I don't want to fork over a bunch of money to sleep somewhere. I'm not plann ...

If I do sleep on a boat, what is the best company to buy from? Thank you, in advance, for your help. Best Regards, Carolina ...

Visa question...

Posted by o1o29o on 3/6/2014 at 05:14

I got a visa at sihanoukville and think they might have given me an extra day. I applied for a 30 day visa but was given (May 13- june 12). I'm not complaining but would it be alright for me to exit on the 12th or is there a chance that this could be be an issue? I've heard that the fines per day is not too big but don't really want to risk it. ...

Mekong Delta

Posted by OregonDuck541 on 30/5/2014 at 13:56

This upcoming December my girlfriend and I are planning on traveling to Japan and then head to Vietnam's Mekong Delta region. We were thinking of starting in Can tho. Our plan was to set up shop in a single location in the Mekong Delta, enjoy that city/area and do day-trips from there. Does anyone have any other suggestions, and how much time should we plan on spending there? Thanks! ...

Hoi An - best Hotel- Kiman Hoi An Hotel $ Spa

Posted by nhungockiman on 27/5/2014 at 22:49

One of the best hotels we have ever stayed in, such amazing value for money. We stayed in a deluxe room on the 5th floor which was very reasonably priced for the quality. It was very spacious, light and included a balcony. The bed was super comfortable. The bathroom was big and really nice, with bath robes and bath slippers included. We had many drawers and cupboards for our luggage. The room was serviced everyday, once for cleaning and a second time for closing blinds and turning over the bed s ...

1. Arrive in Hanoi via flight from Bangkok and spend 2 nights there 3. Sleeper train to Sa Pa, stay there for a few days then back to Hanoi 4. Then a bus to Ha Long Bay and get a tour there and stay maybe 1/2 nights before returning to Hanoi 5. Then get the sleeper train down along the coast stopping at Hoi An and Nha Trang for a couple of days each 6. Arrive at HCMC and spend 3 days there and then get a flight back to Bangkok Is this a good plan? Cheers ...

Local SE Asia Flights into Hanoi

Posted by NFT_Terrorist on 21/5/2014 at 05:57

I am doing an 8 week volunteering program working with an NGO in Hanoi that starts July 7th. I have decided to flying into Bangkok two weeks beforehand, June 23rd and do some travelling around the region before my programme begins. So far I am planning to fly from Bangkok to Hanoi July 6th with Air Asia, the flights are only 50 euro one way and this seems to be a reasonable deal. However I am pretty set on going to Siem Reap for Angkor Wat and this would mean having to return to Thailand ...

Sinh Cafe Transport

Posted by David_Flick on 3/1/2012 at 01:26

Hi Everyone Me and my GF are in Hanoi atm, and are plotting our way down 'Nam with the usual stops of Hue, Hoi An, Mui Ne and HCMC. We have been recommended the open-tour bus system, in particular, a company called Sinh Cafe Travel- they're also reviewed by Lonely Planet and Rough Guide. Has anyone used this company, and if so, could they tell me if they are any good? Mostly I just want to know if our bags will be safe on an overnight bus, (or at least as safe as they ever can be in Asia!!) ...

Motorbiking the north in May...advisable?

Posted by cbg0927 on 8/5/2014 at 23:58

In Luang Prabang now. Have plans to leave towards Oudomxay tomorrow and up to the Tay Trang border crossing to enter Vietnam. Would love to see Sapa region before heading south. Is it foolish to do this on a motorbike at this time of year because of rain? If Sapa is not advisable, I'd probably head for the Na Mao border crossing instead and skip out on Hanoi/the far north altogether. I'd greatly appreciate any advice you could offer me! ...

Info for U.S. citizens getting a Vietnam Visa in the U.S.

Posted by bianco on 30/4/2010 at 08:37

Here is some info for U.S. citizens looking to get a Vietnam visa before arrival in the U.S. My girlfriend and I are going to Vietnam in July. We decided to send in our visa applications early after reading about all the trouble other people have had. We decided to use the San Francisco Consulate rather than the embassy in D.C. because we live 45mins away. How it went down: Went to bank and got a single money order for $170 or $85/per person. We then went to the post office and bought a ...

Egg Coffee. Is it a Vietnam invention

Posted by johnandterry on 19/3/2014 at 21:17

It was the first time I've been to VN, and the time was so limited that I can't visit many places, especially the north of VN. I only have time to wander around Saigon and Vungtau, some places nearby. My friend in VN always said that was a lost I didn't get the chance to go visit Hanoi, cuz there are lots of special dishes there, and I was like what, I ate lots and lots of incredible food here in saigon, can it be anything greater? As I'm a real foodie, it was a regret I didn't visit VN longer. ...

ok, we have up to 3 months in Vietnam, we've spent a relaxing time in Phu Quoc, a fantastic week in HCMC, an interesting 4 days in Dalat then moving on to Nha Trang tomorrow. We've been looking at where to next but can't really see anything until Da Nang/ HoiAn area. Is there anything in-between that's worth stopping off at? We love the culture, nature and history side of things, not too bothered about the partying! Cheers in advance ...
