Cell Phone Use in Vietnam & general safety

Posted by Picasso on 25/7/2013 at 08:02

My daughter is travelling to Vietnam soon for 3 months with a world wide youth group. I ordered a sim card online for her that will 'supposedly' soon get here (Canada). They promote these sim cards by saying "get it before you go so your friends and family will have your number etc...before you leave". It was $50 or so with special speedy delivery. Website www.simcardsasia.com Then I forgot about it until I received an email that stated: Vietnamese law requires all sim cards to be regi ...

Taxi Costs - Hanoi Airport

Posted by basejump on 24/1/2009 at 02:49

I be interested in an update on taxii costs from Hanio Airport to the Old Quarter. Putting aside the potential scammers, I have read elsewhere that the going rate is now $16US not $10 as detailed here in the Hanio pages...another person said that there is an "offical Vietnam Airlines" service which is $18. Anyway if anyone has used a taxi on this trip recently, an update on the cost wou ...

Hello, Together with another friend I will be going to Vietnam for the first time, even though I have traveled quite a lot in (South East)Asia. I have come up with an itinerary and would love to get some feedback on it. I also have a few questions. 20/08 - Arrival in Hanoi around 8 p.m. 21/08 - Hanoi (book the Halong Bay at Indochina Junk or Halong Fantasea Cruise 3 days - 2 nights) Question: are these cruises good? Can we book then in Hanoi or shall we do this already online? 22/08 - Halong ...

Hi My trip around SE Asia started and ends in Hanoi . I decided before that I would save Sapa and Halong Bay for the end of the trip. Now I just need to figure out the logistics. My flight from Luang Prabang arrives in Hanoi at 6pm, allowing me to arrive in Hanoi at best 8pm (there are no earlier flights). I am planning on doing a 2 day/1 night trip to Halong Bay. Will it be possible for me to book at trip that evening around 9pm for the next day? My budget is $100 as a single travel ...

Snorkeling in Vietnam - what about Ca Na (South Central Coast)?

Posted by Foolslena on 19/7/2013 at 09:29

Hi to everyone! Has anyone been to Ca Na recently? Is it possible to do snorkeling around there off from the beach? Or is it only a place for serious divers? All snorkeling advice would be appreciated! Would you recommend a short stay (1 night) in the area? I am looking for a nice beach for swimming and possibly snorkeling. As many guide books recommend this location as it is "said to be one of the best snorkeling and diving spots", I would like to know if anyone has actually tried ...

Welcome to Vietnam - Our first 48 hours (Yet another story about scams)

Posted by Travellincouple on 8/7/2013 at 04:27

After travelling around SEA for two months scam free, we (a couple) were excited for our trip to Vietnam. Sure it is commonplace in SEA to be overcharged and given the incorrect change and when this happens, we smile and move on knowing the money will go further for the person that has taken it than it will for us (not that this makes it right, but maybe this is a culture thing?). Now travelling for two months in SEA and staying scam free means that we have done extensive research on what to lo ...

Posted by dav2205 on 8/7/2013 at 07:50

I'm due to travel from Hue to Hanoi as part of a trip to Vietnam in October (a whirlwind 2 week tour of the country!). Pricing things up it seems to only be a few pounds difference between plane and train so was just looking for some recommendations from more seasoned Vietnam travellers. Options are - Overnight train from Hue to Hanoi ~£35 from what I can see on Seat61 Stay another night in Hue, catch the early train to Danang and fly from there to Hanoi on an early afternoon flight. ...

But on the road I am more than happy to be a lot more relaxed! * Hanoi - 3 night ...
