Itinerary Help - 1 month Vietnam (DEC)

Posted by nitrolwy on 20/5/2013 at 12:35

Hi guys i will be backpacking to vietnam in the month of december to january, would be my first time. Was wondering if we should start of from Hanoi or HCMC, would prefer more 'outdoor' like visiting waterfalls and at the same time not sacrificing experiencing some vietnam night life (clubbing etcetc). Was hoping to travel to cambodia and thailand too, would a month be enough? Also where will be the best to spend the new year countdown? Would be on a tight budget so i guess taking another f ...

Sim Card

Posted by yeahokaysuure on 21/5/2013 at 23:00

I went to Vietnam last summer and used a Vinaphone sim card fo my iPhone 4s during my trip. When I came back to the US, I took it out and put it in a small pouch. Now in 2 weeks, I'm going to be heading back to Vietnam again for vacation and I was wondering......could I use that same sim card again on my phone? ...

What Bike for seeing Vietnam

Posted by GregRoy on 27/4/2013 at 05:39

Hi, May of seen my previous post but in about 3 weeks I plan on buying a motorbike and touring Vietnam. If possible I'm going to try and obtain a Vietnamese license as I've read it can be done. I've seen it has been easy for some and a nightmare for others. I've seen it can be as simple as showing my UK license filling in some forms in Vietnamese and passing the practical. (I know foreign licences are not recognised in Vietnam but many say they have done this). Regarding which bike to choose. ...

Titop Island, Halong Bay without a tour?

Posted by MollyMel on 14/4/2013 at 22:26

Hello, We have been searching for info about this and are coming up empty handed. We would like to go to Halong Bay, and specifically would like to spend longer at the summit of Titop island and be there when the tour groups are not. Is it possible to charter a longtail-type boat (or the local equivalent) to just take us there in the afternoon and bring us back after sunset? Even the higher priced tours seem to stick to a rigid schedule and (not that we've found any) private boats are most likel ...

Scammed at Hue's Royal Fine Arts Museum

Posted by Edbolla on 6/5/2013 at 20:05

A warning to fellow travellers: be careful if you buy anything at the ticket desk at the Royal Fine Arts Museum in Hue. The female ticket attendant insisted that to see the Imperial Citadel you had to purchase a dual ticket for the art museum AND the citadel (costing 105,000 dong). We didn't want to see the art museum and now don't think that what she said was true. So that's mild scam 1. Major scam 2 Also she slyly extracted an extra 100,000 dong from us by quickly switching one of the two 100, ...

Vietnam is the main consumer of rhinoceros horn powder

Posted by johnlafre on 3/5/2013 at 21:10

I urge you to boycott Vietnam. Vietnamese are responsible for the poaching of rhinoceroses in Africa. They purchase rhino horns for bogus medicinal purposes. Consumption of rhino horn will lead to the disappearance of this animal who is already on the brink of extinction. 618 rhinoceros have been killed at the hands of poachers in2012. In Mozambique, they have all been wiped out. Think about this before considering a trip to Vietnam. ...

Ben Duoc Cu Chi Tunnels. Death Trap

Posted by BenD on 26/4/2013 at 07:58

WARNING. PLEASE DO NOT GO INSIDE THE BEN DUOC CU CHI TUNNELS. We want to make everyone aware that the Ben Duoc cu chi tunnels are incredibly dangerous. We visited recently and went down a tunnel where our friend was attacked by a scorpion and died in the tunnel. We want to make this so clear to everyone that going in these tunnels is not safe in the slightest. There was no warning as to whether there was anything lethal in the tunnels and the guide did not inform us. The scorpion simply attacked ...

Hi, Me and wife are going on a trip to SE Asia, and will among others, travel to Vietnam and Cambodia. As we both love the beach we want to put in some R&R from time to time. We have a pretty good idea of our basic itinerary but have one lingering bit we can't seem to decide. Wether to go to Phu Quoc (from HCMC) and then onwards to Kampot and PP, or travel to Sihanoukville (Koh Rong) from HCMC via PP and Kampot. We don't want to do both because they will be to close after another on the tr ...
