Central Highlands weather in July

Posted by BanhMi on 14/5/2010 at 01:50

Planning a trip through the Central Highlands in early July (by motorbike, naturally). The travelfish article describes the weather as such: "Through July and early August the rain can seem to be almost continual." The motorcycle tour company contact said that it would rain sometimes in some places, but that I would still be able to enjoy my trip (of course, he wants my money). I realize the weather might be turn out to be better or worse than normal for the week I'm up there, but more inpu ...

North to South / South to North???

Posted by fatburns43 on 30/7/2012 at 22:51

We are a family of 5 travelling to Vietnam April 2013 for 4 weeks. We will be arriving the start of April,no flights booked yet. In regard to weather does anyone have an opinion whether nth to sth or sth to nth would be preferable. I automatically thought that sth to nth is how we would do it as that is how we travelled Vietnam 17yrs ago but now i am wondering if it would be good to finish with a few days in Pho Quoc at the end. Is Sapa quite cold at the start of April? Any thoughts ...

Avoiding Vinh!

Posted by KhowNeow11 on 21/7/2012 at 22:21

Hello all, My friend and i will be motorbiking from the North down into Laos via the border crossing at Cao Treo/Nam Phao. I've not read a single good thing about Vinh, and was wondering if staying a night there could be avoided. Any decent towns to stay in in the area? Particularly along highway 8 en route to the border? Any tips on the best way to get from Hanoi and surrounds to the Cao Treo/Nam Phao border in general? Time is a factor, but will to do a bit more driving if it means i can s ...

Ha Noi to Ha Long Bay OR Sapa? Advice requested.

Posted by stinkyrose on 26/1/2012 at 06:17

Hi there, I am travelling to Vietnam with my mother in late Feb. She is 71 years old (but still fairly mobile and active). We have 12 days on the ground in Viet Nam. We arrive into HCMC and plan on making our way north so as to leave Ha Noi in the evening of our 12th day. We are interested to see historical, cultural and scenic/natural sites but I am also really keen to explore the food and street-life/everyday life in Viet Nam. So far I have planned to spend: 2 days/2 nights (including the n ...

Train Ticket Reservation

Posted by Tukee on 14/1/2012 at 06:29

I found this 3rd party reservation site while still away from Vietnam: http://www.vietnam-trains.com/. I 'm quite paranoid about this because I have once made an accommodation booking years ago to Hosteling International in Mexico City, but when I arrived at the hostel, they say they were not aware of the arrangement and my name was not in the guest listing. I was ripped-off by just about $2 only. Anybody tried this before or is it legit? Here, they were asking for my credit card number and t ...

Vietnam Approximate Costs To Help New Travellers

Posted by Benno on 2/7/2012 at 04:54

Hi All, Just returned from 2 weeks in the north of Vietnam. 3D2N Ha Long Bay trip, 4N in SAPA and then the final 4 in Hanoi. For travellers new to this country, below is a list of items and their approximate costs so you know that you are either getting ripped off or the cost is roughly where it should be. I had trouble coming to terms with forking out 20,000VND on a can of coke, but it is actually $1AUD/USD. Please note that the prices are general and will vary. For Australian and US trav ...

Hi Everyone, Looking at spending a few weeks in the central/southern part of Vietnam in NOVEMBER (1st 3 weeks) this year. Locations are the Hoi An area and HCMC. By area I mean we have not decided on HA or Danang as launch pads yet (suggestions??) We are looking at spending a few days in HCMC then heading up to Hoi An to explore the surrounds. I know there were floods last year that decimated the area as well as other countries, but was this a one off super system or is it a regular occurr ...

Where to Stop Along the Coast?

Posted by rrockwell on 15/5/2012 at 02:13

I will be taking the train from Hanoi to Saigon later this month. I was hoping to stop before Saigon, buy a motorbike, relax for a week, then bike to Saigon. Where might I be interested in staying during this time? I was thinking Nha Trang or Phan Thiet as that is where I'm told the train stops. I'm looking to do this economically. ...

Mekong Delta advice

Posted by junebug on 12/5/2012 at 07:43

We'd like to visit the Mekong Delta for a few days as part of our route from HCMC-Phu Quoc-Siem Reap, but are undecided how best to incorporate this and which towns to include. We have about 3 days budgeted for the delta (an additional 3 days in Phu Quoc). A couple of options we thought of: 1) Take bus from HCMC to a town such as Ben Tre / Vinh Long/Tra Vinh for a 1-2 days, then onward to Can Tho for the floating markets. Fly from Can Tho to Phu Quoc. Leaving Phu Quoc we'd take the ferry to Ha ...
